Paradise found.

Today's Tids Issue 3,316
Opening Stuff:

Frankly, in all honesty, God went well beyond the call of duty when he gave us pot-roast and gravy.

Typo Alert: The Tids copy editor may not have his usual keen-eyed editing prowess this morning as he got sucked into watching the American Country Music thing. Tried to click it ff as eyelids drooped, but they just kept on putting on one great act after another -- Band Perry, Reba, Garth, Martina McBride and what I thought was really a special happening, Christina Aguilera and Rascal Flats. If I can find a vid of that I’ll get to you. Yawn.

Bill Reynolds, a very good sports writer for the Providence Journal, had this to say in his always lively Saturday column: “It’s only been a couple of weeks, and already ‘Hillary Fatigue’ seems like the new flu.”

When an alligator looks at you and wags its tail, does that mean it is happy, or just thinking about happy it will be after a good meal? …Speaking of Hillary.

“I am an avowed environmentalist, but am quite skeptical of global warming/climate change.” Egads! How can that be? We seem to be living in an “All or nothing society.” A land where self-professed open minded groups are entirely closed to any groups with opposing or mitigating views. A society where, perhaps, a conservative republican would not be allowed to take Social Sciences courses in a liberal arts college. Or, even a Liberal with a sound capitalistic idea deemed vociferously as not credible A society where ideas have become too personal and over protected. I grew up in an open minded advertising business world, “A good Idea can come from anybody as long as it is good.” World. We have to get back to the citizens view of what’s best for everyone, instead of the politicians view of what’s good for them disguised as what’s good for us. That’s going to work fine when we get rid of the liberals. Just kidding.

The Question:
Barbara Hale is 94. Who is she?

Do you get the feeling when listening to today’s avowed environmentalists and nutritionists that they are really saying people who lived in the fifties were assholes. And the Personal injury lawyers too, who have the knowledge of today to condemn the product innovations of yesterday. It’s a cryin’ shame.

I read where “ole’ Newk” (Great Brooklyn Dodger Pitcher) was only one of two (The other was Justin Verlander) baseball players to have won the Rookie of the Year, Cy Young and MVP awards. You know who Newk was, don’t you -- He was the guy in 1951 I was watching pitch in the NL playoff with the dreaded NY Giants. Even my best friends, Ya, ya, Ya fans all, were rooting with me on this one. So there I was, my heart in my stomach, groaning on every pitch, but never relinquishing my confidence that Ole’ Newk would get the job done. He was just pitches away from the victory that would propel my “Bums” to the Series against the even more Dreaded Bronx Bombers. Just pitches away, tiring, but Newk’s heart would never gave in, would it? But, then Newk stopped and stared to the dugout. Out walked manager Charlie Dressen. I shouted at the screen, “No, NO…leave Newk In. He can do it.” But Dressen didn’t hear me. Into the picture strode Ralph Branca, passing mighty Newk at he shortstop position where Pee Wee looked on, slamming his fist into his mitt. You know the rest of the story.

Today is an unofficial Holiday in Rhode Island. Actually it’s Patriots Day in Massachusetts a great holiday where they celebrate Paul Revere and the “Shot heard round the world”; when they run the Boston Marathon and the Sox play a late morning game. I have taken that day off for over 55 years, no matter where I lived. It just seems like a day that should always be remembered and celebrated.

I still live the 1951 Dodger loss like I still live the 2007 Patriots loss.

If you ask me, some classical traditional music composers around the early 1900’s created some pretty ordinary music. On the other hand, many new composers from that era broke barriers and bewildered patrons. But who am I to declare great musicians as ordinary. I must be part of today’s society where it is so easy for the unknowledgeable to criticize those who know. But, I have to add that if you listen long enough to music that seems like it is just going through the motions, you come across some true little gems. Discovery is one of the many joys of listening to music. And maybe if you listen to the knowledgeable, you will find little gems of acceptance in your own mind.

In all of these police shooting incidents, the first question should always be, “Why were the police there in the first place?”

I keep reading in editorials that America is different because here, elected Government officials work for the citizens. Somehow, I’m not seeing that any more. That is, unless all citizens have been reclassified as special interest groups.

ISIS has had plenty of success mainly because it sneaks in and takes territory from weakened, disorganized countries. Hence, the new assault on Afghanistan, a devastated dysfunctional country, is really no surprise. The savage terrorists will move forward until eventually when the world wakes up and retaliates forcefully. The threat that boils like molten lead beneath the surface will become a significant reality when these Islamic hoards become capable in Air Power and other modern fighting techniques and capabilities. To date, they have not proven they can withstand an organized military counterattack.

I cheered a bit when I read that Sheldon Whitehouse had announced that a senate committee had approved a new measure to be taken to the entire body. The measure if voted into law would give control of education back to the states and local communities…where it should be! Then I’m thinking that Sheldon Whitehouse is happy with this reduction of federal power. What in the hell did we give away to get SW to go along? It can’t be good.

On Friday I gave our new Gov. Gina Raimondi a C+ for her first 100 days. Saturday I read that she came out to endorse you know who for Dem presidential candidate. Her career is going down Hill fast!

You have to figure that every mafia guy and associates keeps a wheelchair in the front closet for use in arrest situations.

The Answer:
If you were like me thinking she was a mother in 1950’s-60’s series like Leave it to Beaver or My three Sons, you’re wrong. She was best known as Della Street, Perry Mason’s super secretary for years. At least, I knew that she wasn’t in Ozzie and Harriet.

My latest nightmare has me waking up screaming, No, no No!” This after seeing formerly beautiful tree lined neighborhood lanes, comfortable homes nestled amongst leafy, shade giving trees, now bare of any foliage but with concrete ten foot squares in front yards for the landing of drones from Amazon, EBay and FaceBook Merchandising Enterprises.

The Aguilara-Rascal vids from last night are blocked, so here’s Rascal to ease you into the week. Enjoy it.
