Send us money; We’ll find ways to waste it.

Today's Tids Issue3,313
Opening Stuff:

I was out early this sunny morning in April; I was out there standing on a broad green l-hillside that ran gracefully down to the salt marsh and meandering tidal creek. The green seemed to look brighter against a backdrop of grey spartina ravaged by winters rage. Yet its reflection sparkled in the water below. But I know there’s life with in those reeds; and sap flowing into lifeless branches of trees that guard gentle ponds where soon black belted Galloway cows will roam. It’s no wonder that perfect spring days had the poets seeing young men’s fancies turning to love. Visions of their ladies in bright dresses quickly, gracefully moving towards the shore where waters would tingle toes, and winds off the sea would billow hair framing beautiful faces; welcoming eyes would glisten in the sun. It is these days when the heart throbs, and imaginations fly. When love is in the air; when fanciful clichés become real.

Of course the taxman doesn’t think od such frivolity at all. What I find interesting about income taxes is that in their disingenuoi=us pronouncements to help the little guy, they raise fees and and add disguised taxes which ill them. But, they never talk about being careful with spending.

How many golfers do you think started their rounds Monday morning trying to putt like Jordan Speith*? Lots I think, as golfers will do anything to improve a score and are among the easiest sold classes of consumers in America. How else do you explain paying $300 or more for a putter. *(Speith putts looking at the hole rather than at the club striking the ball.)

The Question:
What do you think are the Top Ten Hotel Chains (Groups) in the world? Bonus: Name the top 10 hotel brands.

I received a phone call from a Republican pollster yesterday. I told her we needed a President who can start taking the anger out of the country; a respected person who can star bringing people together. I added that a lot of people I talk to around here and across just don’t trust the Republican party to do it right; that the Repubs will destroy each other in the primaries with the ultimate result being a clear path for Hillary. But, candidates with egos, don’t often see the reality. The pollster was an intelligent woman who seemed to listen and agree on several issues. Hope she took notes.

The St. Louis Fed Chief Bullard says that we need to raise the interest rates to soften the impact of the “coming boom”! Is that a surprise to you, or am I just too much of a cynic.

I’ll be rooting fro the Boston Cektics against the mighty Cleveland Cavaliers. My team probably doesn’t have a chance, but, I like this team that has transformed considerably this year. We have a terrific coach in Brad Stevens and a collection of 9 or 10 players –Zeller, Smart, Thomas, Olynyk, Bradley, Turner, Crowder, Sullinger, Jerebko, Bass, Pressley -- who can contribute in many ways: Defense, rebounding, passing and all around hustle. They all seem to love to play the game. I think it is exciting now, and in a year or two this team will be gelling nicely, keeping them competitive for a long time.

Stock predictors seem ultra positive about Ulta Cosmetics and Fragrances.

I was happy that Deanne Johnson won the instant vote because as you know by now I like the distinctive qualities of her voice. But, I have to tell you that I thought Brian Johnson gave the most entertaining performance in the sing-offs. The real crime is that Mia Z was even in the playoffs. She is super talented, but it proves once again, that blues is much too distinctive for the likes of the voting pleasant pop or country oriented audiences. America likes Karaoke.

The schism in the US economy today has the enthusiasm and rosy forecasts from Banks and Corporations exactly 180 and degrees away from the very cautious consumer who still seems to be sensitive to the festering angst from big downturn. But then, the consumer and private investors weren’t bailed out..

Boston Police are probably now wondering if Aaron Hernandez could be the solution to many of their unsolved murder cases.

The only thing that could possibly save the Repubs in 2016 is Debbie Wasserman Schultz saying something rude and obnoxious in an interview. Hey, maybe Repubs aren’t dead yet!

I hesitate to make nasty comments about Hernandez because his gangs have long tentacles.

The Answer:
Number one chain is IHG (Holiday Inn). After that in order you have Hilton, Marriott, Wyndham, Choice, Accor, Starwood, Best Western, Home Inns and Carlson-Rezidor. Bonus: The top ten brands are Holiday Inn, Best Western, Marriot Resorts, Comfort Inn, Hilton Hotels, Ibis (Accor group), Sheraton, Days Inn, Super 8, Courtyard, Quality, Ramada and Crown Plaza.

Take a walk on a beautiful path and feel the love in the air. Can’t hurt.
