Opening Stuff:

Every once in a while you just have to pause and think about friends. Whether it be delightful neighbors or even relatives you haven’t seen for years. There are connections that never leave your heart. Friendship is the nourishment of life. Friends still are surely the neighborhood kids who began life’s adventure with you. And definitely the many you met in school, in college or during your career. The strangers who welcomed you into neighborhoods. It is amazing as you think back on times with friends how the details of the smallest event remain vivid in your mind. How all the little friendship skirmishes that may have felt so dire at the time have completely disappeared from the recesses of your mind. It’s why I try to write this thing for friends, as if everybody was a friend even though I have never met. And I’m pretty sure that there are some pretty good friends out their reading this, as I have never received in the mail little packets of Anthrax. Life is good!

When she said it was time to put the clamps on drug company price gouging, the Biotech companies lost big – like to the tune of $132 Billion. The Voice: I missed some of it this week, so your usual in-depth analysis will be a little more shallow today. For Monday and Tuesday, in case you are keeping score, here are the best. On Monday Manny Cabo seemed to out distance the rest. Jeffery Austin was pretty good too. It was hard to strike a big difference between the next four, 3 of whom went to team Blake – Chris Chump, Morgan Frazier, Lyndsey Elm and Tyler Dickenson. The remaining three were having trouble with pitch and seemed underwhelming even though selected – Maddy Davis, Jubel and Amanda and Amanda Ayala (Who just isn’t ready to be there yet). Of course, I like country and it was good on Monday. On Tuesday, West Virginia was in the spotlight as hometown girl Krista Hughes captured hearts with a Bonnie Raitt cover. Also quite strong were twins Andi and Alex. Viktor Kiraly, Cole Criske, Konn Bukowski and Daniel Scott also held their own. Magic will have to happen to get Celeste Betton, Alec Kandel and Chance Pefia past the Battle Rounds. But the talent is good as usual, it’s just that bottom rung has to play in a major league game. And there are always surprises.

Did you ever see that old comedian bit where the comic raises one hand in humility to stop applause, while the second hand down by his side urges the audience to keep on clapping. That reminds me of Hillary putting putting up a hand to stop Keystone, while the second is down by her side accepting cash for the Clinton Foundation from big oil.

The Parking Lot: Chapter 17.

    Jeremiah sat quietly on the damp earth in the completely black as night tent. He wasn’t panicked, but just thinking as he always did. At first he was beating himself for not being more careful and getting caught. But, he realized that he had to get in the camp, and here he was. Elizabeth and her dad were not about to hang out a “Welcome Jerry” sign. Yet, he was encouraged by the actions of Elizabeth and to some extent her father.

   He heard soft footsteps outside the tent. His heart started moving as he pictured the beautiful face of Elizabeth illuminating the dark. He started to push himself up as the flap to the tent flew open. He recoiled slightly. It wasn’t Elizabeth. It was a young man, who he had seen but didn’t know well. He remembered as the good looking kid he had seem talking to Elizabeth from time to time. He didn’t look friendly. But, he didn’t remember seeing a smiling face since he arrived.

  The young Indian grabbed his upper arm and yanked him up. Jeremiah staggered thinking that this captor was pretty strong. He kept his hand firmly grasping Jeremiah as he shoved him out into the open. Several of the tribe turned but quickly went back to their work. Elizabeth had stared a little bit longer, but even she, after nodding to my caretaker, turned back to her work. Maybe getting caught was not such a good idea. Jeremiah was good at discussing things with himself.

Boehner is gone and he was a compromiser. But, the fact remains that the Right sided congressmen didn’t just materialize from salty Mars water. They were elected by constituents who wanted their beliefs heard through these representatives. After all, that is how the system works. Liberal minded easterners seem disturbed by people who think government spending is out of hand, or that funding Planned Parenthood is a sign of the fading moral character of a nation. The liberal east seems to fear the idea that the USA is a country of individuals determining their own destiny, and not one of declining responsibility and motivation fostered by government handouts. Sometimes obstruction is good for the soul.

I always like it when potato and macaroni salad days end.

In the new NBC/WSJ Poll on Democrat candidates, it shows that Joe Biden is now faring better against Repubs than Hillary, who is now losing to all of them after months of winning by a large margin.

I heard a good common sense suggestion for handling the Syrian refugee problem in the US. For every illegal immigrant who is sent packing, one Syrian can start living off the US  government legally. That means there is probably room here for 11-20 Million wandering, hungry refugees in need of a home. This should take care of the problem pretty nicely, And, if the Syrians take all of those illegal jobs, we can cut down on the cost of free government maintenance, and save strapped business owners from imprisonment. Does your heart feel better?

That was pretty astonishing news about the discovery of “flowing” water on Mars. Yikes, have you checked out your new neighbors lately? In addition to determining the possibility of life, I thought it was interesting that he type of salt in the water was exactly the  kind of salt treatment necessary to keep water liquid in frigid temperatures. The great scientist in the sky has done it again.

She doubled revenues to $80 Billion, stimulated innovation to 15 patents/day (Yikes!), quadrupled the growth rate and brought the company to 11th largest in the country. And, in answer to all of that negativity about jobs lost (A favorite ploy of Dems and loser Repubs), she took over the company just before the DotCom collapse, also known as “The year of the Layoff”. Many other Giants in the then tech world just disappeared.” Carley may be as good as she looks, and that is rare in politicians today.

The Parking Lot: Chapter 16 continues…

  Jared took aim as he saw Jasper’s foot pull back ready to kick Beth in the ribs. He squeezed the trigger, and then ran ten yards to his right down the path without looking at what he accomplished. A gun shot rang out before he got to his next position. He saw Sam standing over Jasper, who was squirming on the ground screaming and cussing. Sam’s eyes, fixed on Jared’s former position, were now more of concern than evil and intimidation. The big oaf fired four more times into the pushes. Jared took aim again and fired, this time taking the time to see the results. Sam’s face reddened immediately as the shot gun blast seemed to tear off part of his face. The big guy dropped into a clump. Jasper was still screaming, but now looked wide eyed at his partner. His head was turning rapidly, and his hand now going in under his jacket for a gun. Jared fired again, and Jasper went limp.

   Jared crash through the bushes, ran and then kicked away Sam’s gun. He reached down inside Jasper’s pocket for the second gun partially out of the holster. If he wasn’t so anxious, he would have thrown up looking at the mess he had created. But he was more concerned with Beth than his stomach. His attention and emotions went to Beth who was shivering. He picked her up and with  the last of his energy carried her the porch of Nancy’s house. He took off his jacket and covered her up. her eyes looked up at him, but he wasn’t sure she was seeing anything.

  He looked back at the two limp bodies. What have I created?, he thought. Is this the beginning of a war? And, why am I in it?

I have to wonder how many people who really need help stopped whatever they were doing and took notice of the light Francis had spread across America. How many people caught in the ooze of spreading secularism, paused to wonder, “Where am I going; I never realized all of this love was out there; how simple pure love could feel so good.” I wonder how many people will now pass a church and think, maybe I should step inside for a moment.

I have lived near and worked in the middle of Downtown Boston, and since those days a while back the beautiful city has grown magnificently. But most notable to me was the constant flow of heavy traffic. It appeared that people there continuously drive around misconfigured blocks looking for parking spaces. And there are no parking places or parking lots you can afford.

Hillary’s email gap is much wider than the distance between Rosemary Wood’s arms. In fact if te gap keeps growing it will certainly overtake Hillary’s nose.

The final of CSI was a good one. And it was motre than just seeing Gill Grissom again --- who by the way was the best of the chiefs. And noc=ice to see Sarah’s heart pimping again. 15 years and still pushing out good stories. Not bad.

I have never experienced a Pope where the reactions from people went from condemning his Leninist, Marxist tendencies to adoring a beloved Saint. On one hand, this leader of a Catholic Church -- once besmirched, defiled and eliminated from open society by the Godless communist doctrine -- seemingly praises and promotes a one government world and key Marxist doctrines. On the other hand he is caring; he mesmerizes people of all faiths, lifts them up; makes all people relevant. Both opinions are pretty accurate, but I’ like to think that he is doing a pretty good job of bringing people together under loving arms of God. Reinvigorating not only the Catholic Church, also churches of all faiths; making significant again church of Sunday morning.

In a Rasmussen telephone Poll triggered by the comments of Ben Carson about a Muslim president, 51% of Americans said they would not vote for a person with Islamic ties.

In the Gallop Tracking Poll since the last debate, Trump’s “Favorability Gap” (Difference between favorability and unfavorability voter percentages) has fallen to a mere 13 points versus 32 points two weeks earlier. During the same period Carson’s favorability Gap has increased to 63 points. Carley also grew to a 33 point rating while Jeb stayed the same in the Trump level at 13. There are many new polls, Fox News and NBC/.WSJ, with all of the showing strong steady gains by Carson and pretty  good gains by Fiorina, and losses by Trump. It’s like petals falling from the glowing morning rose as the day wears on.

Last night Trump was on 60 Mins as one of the tow feature interviews. The other was Charlie Rose with Putin. I think Putin won. Donald tried to look more substantive, but it still seemed a little Gee-Whizbang to me.

I know many a person who has thoroughly enjoyed touring on the former Military landing crafts, Duck Boats, which have become familiar as a unique water and land tourist vehicle in big cities around the country. Boston for instance has a fleet of about 39, which is constantly on the move, packed with eager sightseers. Unfortunately with the deadly crash involving one in Seattle, a lawyer in Philly says that he has been against them for years. He says they should never be used on city streets and are just relics of a bypassed war machine. It seems though that he is just paving the way to get a piece of the action for any law suits that may be filed. I’ve been on them and they seem safe to me. There’s a way to get things done, and then there is the opposite, which is looking like you’re trying to get things done but alienating everybody who could help you get there.

Most people who have been associated with the manufacturing industries always had a pretty good idea that the German Government and their manufacturers were pretty close, if not in bed together. But, I never thought it was as bad as the Volkswagen affair.

I have to say that while I’m always wary about what is written in the NY Times, I have to say the paper still looks like what newspapers looked like in the past -- heavy and hardy. But, I still don’t know how the readers feel fulfilled with a newspaper without comics.

   Jared started running towards the screams. He was fighting through the pain in his knees, but worrying more about what he was going to do when he got there. The bozos were big, and part of their heft was probably a lrge nasty gun under their clothes.

   He Gasped when he came to a point where he could see the three. Beth was on the ground, her face bloody. These guys were not tender, loving people. He was thinking, Ok I can rush in and then we would both probably wind up dead.

   The two were looking down at Beth, saying something. Jared did not hear her replying. he did hear her muffled sobbing. The pause gave him a chance to see where he was, what he might find, if anything. Around the next curve in the path was a small shed. He moved to open a narrow door. He expected it to make a squeaking sound that would wake the dead. But, it opened smoothly, quietly. Is this part of Nancy’s planning, he wondered Inside he saw what looked like a survival kit. What kind of mind did Nancy have?

   In the corner behind the neatly ordered array of tools and clothing were two shot guns. Nancy didn’t leave herself to having opt rely on luck. Me, I’ll take this luck, Jared thought. He reached in grabbing the gun, but stopped as he heard some noise. He stood still and slowly turned his head. Nothing but his nerves. He grabbed the weapon and moved to the side of the path closest to the threesome.

While the Pope mesmerizes America and the world during his trip here, a poll among the College of Cardinals says that all is not rosy in Vatican City. In the poll as reported by Washington DC Insider Billy Shields, 20% of the men in red say they are ardent, unwavering supporters of Pope Francis. 10% are against the Pope. 70%, though, say they are just biding time and waiting for the election of the Next Pope. Maybe they don’t like what he is doing right. Maybe they are conservative. Maybe they think he should lay off politics. Meanwhile people are falling in love with this most giving man. I like watching what he does, because I think it si good for all people’s hearts, even as I disagree with several of his opinions.

I don’t know whether Jeb is a good guy or bad guy. I don’t know if he would make a great president or fail miserably. Maybe he would be great; maybe he’s the kind of quiet positive leader who would surprise us all; maybe the kind of person we need to cross the lines of bitterness. But, I do know one thing and that is that he doesn’t have chance no matter how good he might be. He is a Bush. And the Bush haters are still out there ready with their slurs, their misguided vehemence. He is probably not electable, regardless how much the insiders may want him.

The process in the development of the The US Constitution was an interesting one. In a nutshell, the first Constitution proposal was attacked because it gave too much power to the national government, seeming to disregard the rights of individuals. With that in mind then Congressman James Madison created 19 Amendments which were boiled down to twelve by Congress. The states only ratified the ten that became The Bill of Rights. The other two were not ratified. One, believe it or not, is still pending, and the second about Congress not be able to give themselves raises finally ratified in 1992, with Michigan’s acceptance, to become the 27^th amendment. The amendment still pending after about 227 years is on the allocation of the number of constituents to representatives. It was felt at the time that if approved it would water down the power of the people in the government. It appears they were right as if accepted back then we would have perhaps 5,000 congress people today. Yikes! Of course it appears we have or are losing the fight to keep the power minimized in the national government. Maybe we need an amendment on the size of Government.

By the time the campaigns are over, every candidate has feet of clay. Basically it’s because we get small picture reporting; like perhaps pointing out typos instead of trying to understand the power of the content.

Wesleyan University in Middeltown Connecticut has long been known as one of the most left leaning little colleges in the nation. This week, the students railed against an Op-Ed piece in the student newspaper, The Wesleyan Argus, burning issues and petitioning the college to stop funding. The Op-Ed piece criticized the Black Lives Matter movement for creating an environment he (The Author, an Iraq War vet Brian Stascavage) believes it advocates violence by spreading anti cop hatred, and questioned the movement’s legitimacy. Adding insult to injury, it now appears that the newspaper editors in an effort to save their own thin skin threw Stascavage under the bus. Ah liberals, they are so tolerant. So intent on seeking the truth. Not.

I get at least one email a day from Char-Broil and I have absolutely no reason why.

The Parking Lot: Chapter 16 Continues…

   Jared was panting as he reached his car, his aging legs unmasking hidden areas of pain he had never before experienced. Mostly though, he was anxious for Beth. The two behemoth’s looked about as evil as any two people he had ever encountered. Now as he remembered he saw the fear of them earlier in Fred’s eyes.

   He was starting the motor before he was inside the car. He slammed the door snagging the edge of his jacket. And threw the gear shift into drive, then opened the door to free himself..

  He wasn’t about to roar down and cut them off, but he wanted to be sure he got back to his vantage pint before they left the scene to who knows where. He was a in luck as he saw their car entering State street which was parallel to him. He made a U-Turn to bring him up to High Street before them, where he would look like any other car up there when they arrived. The twosome made a left turn on High, and sped up towards the major highway. Jared now settled into being the quiet follower. Just before the Interstate, his prey turned to the south route towards Adamsville. Within minutes they had turned left int a narrow driveway. He slowly drove past and saw the car had already disappeared.

   Just up the highway Jared found a hidden place to park his car. He looked both ways as his mother had told him and ran across the busy state road, now feeling the aches in his knees and ankles more intensely. The driveway was long and enveloped by old trees. He saw no signs of the car aside from tire tracks that disappeared into the dark. Out of the corner of his eye as he walked by the side of the drive he thought he saw something, a glint. It looked like a car hidden in the brush. He moved into the brush and recognized it as Nancy’s. So, is this where she lives, he wondered.

   Just at the other side of her car he noticed a well defined path. He thought what he was seeing fit what he knew of his mystery woman. She is full of surprises and might have used this path to get to her home. Maybe she already had to evade the lunkheads. Just as he took off, he heard screams. His stomach turned. “C’mon legs, you can do it.”

Reading Between the Lines Movie Reviews:

--The Intern has an interesting premise of a 70 year old retied ex-successful business owner going back into the workplace, this time as a newbie in a fashion website, with a bunch of career driven younger women and men. Robert DiNero is ok but Anne Hathaway as the savvy designer business woman is wonderful as she holds together a limited plot. This conflict of generations is probably worth seeing.

-- “Ern” seems ot be the binding word in this weeks Movie Section as next of the list is the rather bad Green Inferno from Horror king Eli Roth. A bunch of eager student activists travel to the Amazon to save the ecological world, and thing don’t go well at all. Lots of gore.

--Hotel Transylvania 2 is a not so hot sequel to the popular first edition. But, it will probably do well, and the characters are still fun.

--The best of the week appears to be Pawn Sacrifice, a grippng true story about chess wiz Bobby Fisher (Toby McGuire) and his challenges to the Soviet empire during the cold war. It chronicles his struggles with genius and insanity, his rise and fall.

1. Michael Douglas has had some pretty great, to me, movies. Romancing the Stone was Pretty Good , and certainly Wall Street will be at the top of most minds. I really liked The Game and Fatal Attraction. He is remembered for War of the Roses, American President, Wonder Boys and Traffic. I liked Basic Instinct and Falling Down, but I liked best, Disclosure. Bonus: Anybody who has ever frolicked about doing the ever happy polka knows Jimmy as a premier Polka band Leader.
