Honesty is the first chapter in the Book of wisdom. – Thomas Jefferson.

Today's Tids Issue 3,691
For Sanity:

Maybe I am a conservative after all. As hard as I try to be broad minded and see all sides, there are some indisputable, binding truths that guide my allegiance. It’s not about government big or small, or none at all. It’s about morals and ethics in humans all. It’s about the basic truisms of life -- like honesty, integrity, legality, rationality, fortitude, understanding, perseverance, dedication, responsibility, intense loyalty and more – all of those pure and simple God given precepts that are just plain basic necessities for a harmonious human civilization. I fight for never yielding on intrinsic values, regardless of how they have been redefined for modern cultural convenience.

After Rory McIlroy’s great victory yesterday, I wrote for this morning that he was almost Palmeresque as he defied the norm, surprised the experts taking out the big clubs to go for a “go-for-broke” win. Hours after I wrote that the “King” died. Of course there was nobody like Arnie, the man who really popularized golf; not Ben or Jack or Tiger. Arnie was the man for everyman, the guy who did what only the bold would do. I wonder if Arnie had a glimpse of Rory’s effort last night before he died. To let him see that his art of the great daring finish may still carry on. But then, there is nobody really like Arnold Palmer. Never has been. We will miss you.

What does a professional golfer do after he retires?

So, tonight’s the debate. Who will have sweat on the upper lip? That is the question.

Why is the Speaker of the House third in line for the Presidency? Because he or she leads the only group that theoretically comes closest to representing individual people. Individual Citizens of the USA – remember them?

Millions of Americans have enjoyed Sundays because they have wakened for 22 years to the comforting tones, the intellect, the warm and human heart of Charles Osgood. I remember way before his Sunday Morning career when a one minute with Osgood on the radio was often the best moment of the day – a poem, a thought, a little tale that would awaken the human spirit. I just have to believe he was a good guy who I would enjoy knowing as a neighbor.

Hope you all like Jane Pauley.

The Question:
What famous actor was the first voice of Lamont Cranston on the Radio. Bonus: Name five songs from My Fair Lady. Hint: One of them isn’t Maria.

Here’s one thing I will predict about the debate. The Dem spinners will come out and say Hill won and the Repubs will say That Trump won. And responsible citizens will look at each other and say, “How come we can’t win for a change?”

The Democrats are disturbed that the Republican House is blocking “O” by representing the desires of the constituencies that elected them. And I’m thinking why are they disturbed at one of the basic precepts of the American concept – the checks and balances of three independent branches. And, in particular the one most powerful representing the districts of the USA where real people live. I think right now a stubborn house is the only thing good about government, certainly for this term and perhaps the next.

“Drawing is the honesty of the art.” There is no possibility of cheating. It is either good or it is bad.”  --Salvador Dali.

Some local New Englanders are thinking that one of the great sports weekends in the near future could happen in Cleveland. On that day, October 8, when Tom Brady returns to action in the beautiful city on that magnificent Great Lake, the Boston Red Sox could also be in town playing the Cleveland Indians, and the former much loved RS manager Terry Francona, in the AL playoffs. Lots of hearts could be beating madly!

I’d be interested in all of this daily news info about the status of the Prince Estate if I could find on ancestry.com evidence of the possibility of my being an heir.

Apparently there are growing concerns over the validity of digital media results. The big digital players --- Facebook, Twitter, InstaGram et. al. – Are self-reporting as opposed to the third party reporting of TV, radio or magazine activity. The concerns have become real as FaceBook has admitted that they have grossly exaggerated their results on video viewership. Advertisers rushed to the new guys in town, no questions asked. But now reasoned business judgement may be emerging as advertisers are taking a second look at the true value of digital advertising. Remember the DotCom explosion.

The only thing that BLM teaches us is that different sides uphold their own view of “facts”.

To me, blue fish is the sweetest, tastiest fish of them all. Douse with Béarnaise sauce and you may have the best dish of any kind. One problem, though, is that freshness is paramount, so this taste treat may have difficulty being appreciated across the land.

A brilliant observer of our daily human challenge, and loyal Midwestern born reader suggests Bill Belichick for President! This Cleveland Brown’s fan is realizing, he says, that maybe his team made a mistake bouncing this Pat’s Coach headed to Mount Rushmore. “What a great president he would be,” says my friend now living in Tampa: “No BS…just results…No entitlements expected, just playing the hand he’s dealt…Doesn’t whine, piss and moan…is not biased to either whites or blacks or Hispanics…tight ends or gay tackles…and Bill would win with a female QB. He understands the value of avoiding the biased press at all costs.” Write in “Bill”!

If I had any assurance that a liberal would do the right thing for all, I would have no problem with using “best, smartest” as prime requisites for nomination and confirmation to Supreme Court. However, it has been proven repeatedly that the liberal judges are as ideological as anybody, maybe more so. So while a glowing, extensive academic resume may be a sign of intelligence, it is not at all an assurance of the use of intelligence. The selection of judges for the next generation is still the biggest issue in this election, just in case your mind has been diverted elsewhere.

How great would this country be if we never had the 16th Amendment?

Hillary reminds me of the often told tale of Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown. Don’t believe a word she says, Charlie. The Hill means more of the same in many ways.

Some of these post college football game outbursts by students look like terrorists events to me.

The Answer:
The great Orson Wells was the original “Shadow”, Lamont Cranston, on the radio. “The Shadow Knows…”. I still hear that phrase as I pulled the covers up over my head. Bonus: You know all of these – I Could Have Danced All Night, The Rain In Spain, Get Me to the Church on Time, With a Little Bit Of Luck, I’ve Grown Accustomed To Her Face, On the Street Where You Live, Why Can’t The English, I’m an Ordinary Man, Without You, Hymn to Him, Ascot Gavotte and Just You Wait! I’m humming.

Get ready, get set
And place your bet.
Neither of these sinners
Are USA winners.
So abide with their egos
Enjoying a bag of Cheetos.

May your fingers be Orange, and somehow your minds enlightened. Vote for a Repub Congress.
