Getting beyond minutia.

Today's Tids Issue 3,905
For a Lazy Weekend, and a thought or two along the way.

Some guy yesterday told me that this is the “50th Summer of Love”. Ok, I said, I like romance. I like the slow-motion images of young lovers running through lens blurred grassy fields, flying into each other’s arms, eyes closed, pressing body to body. Yeah, I can live with that. So, I’ll write about it this morning, I said to myself. It would be a good kickoff for a loving weekend. I mean, who can argue with love. Well, it turns out that San Fran can. The 50th Summer of love refers to that time when flowerchildren settled into not so glamorous nooks and crannies of that crazy town the Bay. That dazed generation wants to bring their loving days back with a big concert in the park on this fiftieth year of remembrance. But, the City says No, unless you adhere to all of our rules, which sound like they were written here in the RI State Legislature. Sorry, I had to interrupt your trip through wooded gilded and along the shores of lapping waves. Think about it anyhow. Put a flower in your hair The imagination is endless.

My guess is that all of the probable SF L-o-v-e admirers are over in Hamburg creating a ruckus.

Some people just do what needs to be done, like Gordon Hartman who put together $17 Million to develop and build a Water Park for use by kids wiyh with disabilities. The plan also called for research to create a water proof wheel chair for use in the various colorful park rides and play areas. It's called Morgan's Water Park, inspired by his daughetr who who felt left out because of her special needs. Hartman says while it is designed for fun it is really more about inclusion!  Everybody knows that there is way too much money around going nowhere. Think of what could be accomplished if the new USA trend in keeping keeping up with the Jones and fellow celebs, atheltes and executives wasn’t cars and houses but the good deeds of helping others. Wow, what could we accomplish with a new collective objective in life. This isn’t to say that there aren’t plenty of successful people out there who have big plans for distributing the results of their success around the world. I know, though, there are thousands of people who could reinvigorate communities, augment hospital capabilities and more, much more.

Third place CBS News looks like it wants to make a big deal out of the resignation of the White House Ethics chief, Walter Shaub, Jr. He looks like your basic US Gov bureaucrat, the biggest activist anti-Trump organization BTW, and he said little in first interview. What he did say was that there was no way Trump could distance himself from his businesses and still not get a business boost from being president. In other words, he is telling us that Businessmen and non-politicians/bureaucrats should never be president or their admins would be forever tainted regardless of how good they are. He is saying, “Keep the bloated government agencies in place, because we know what is best for you Americans, not someone who has actually lived and survived in the tough real world. But, that’s what we get for whole truths now, pieces of anecdotal evidence to serve an ideology.

A good name for the media: “The Tainters”.

The Question:
Volvo is a Latin word for what? Bonus: How did he beat generation begin and names influences on it.

Tids Book Reviews Department:
If it appears that I seem a bit smarter today, it may be because this morning I was introduced to a new book called “Christianity Matters”. I sat across from the author at my monthly “old-washed-up-sports-guys” breakfast. He, author David Maloof, didn’t look as hobbled as I and appeared ready to play D-Back again for Chaminade HS. His book is a Pro Bowl effort. It is a well-researched, intensive look at the entirety of Christianity and its amazing contributions to civilization starting from 0000AD. It details the impact of Jesus Christ’s teachings on all peoples, including several non—Christians like Gandhi, Abe Lincoln and Tom Jefferson great men who lived by Jesus words while doubting his deity. It is an important book in era now where the totality of great achievements of institutions is often diminished by those sniping at the failings of individuals. You may find me stealing some great ideas from this book, with big type BTW. Oops, I’d better be careful – David is a lawyer! Yes, he is a lawyer who traveled throughout the world on business, and found himself increasing involved in humanitarian organizations on many continents. That’s called “Walkin’ the walk”. Check it out at Amazon. I have a feeling you won’t want to put it down.

I think it is laudable for Volvo to make a corporate decision to go all electric. On the other side of the moon is France which has stated that it will ban combustion engines. One is about free choice and the other is about manipulative control.

Let’s see, Islamic activist Linda Sarsoar was a “lead” organizer of the women’s’ march at Trump’s inauguration. Why isn’t she back in the Middle East where many, many shackled women really need the support. I guess it’s just easier to be brave in a freedom giving, equal opportunity for all country.

This headline May give you a little idea why the US these days is a little off kilter: “Elizabeth Hurley, 52, Shares Bikini Selfie – Followers Go Nuts.” Elizabeth Hurley has followers?

I don’t know about you, but I always look at Shelly Duval and think of Olive Oyl.

A local columnist muses that if an alien space ship were hovering over the US lower forty listening alternatively to CNN and Fox, they might think the land below was two different countries.

BTW, I listened to the post P/T Meeting remarks by Tillerson. CNN dwelled on Russian vote meddling, the Dem battle cry. Fox focused on the chance for two nuke powers with big differences finding a way to agree on a host of things god for the rest of the world.

Another columnist thi morning was somewhat befuddled watching young people standing alongside of the magnificent Bristol 4th of July parade, their heads buried in their phones. Is the new generation missing the w real world. Take your grandchildren for walk in the glorious wild.

Another pretty conservative Fox employee has been pushed out of Fox Business News because of alleged sexual harassment charges. It doesn’t take much of an imagination ot think that perhaps the left unhappy with the success of the more conservative network, has something to do with the recent purges. It’s a little like what secularists are doing to the Catholic church and Christianity i general, picking apart the mass efforts with scandal after scandal. The absence of truth is not good for future generations.

Jobs Growth doesn’t mean much without healthy average wage increases.

Reading Between the Lines Movie reviews:
--Spider man is back in a sequel called SM: “Homecoming. Tom Holland is the wallclimber and everybody seems ot love this one. Peter Parker returns home to live with Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) and under the eye of new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr. ) Peter is somewhat down wanting to prove something more than just being Spiderman, Then his life is changed when a new villain “Vulture” (Michael Keaton) arrives to disrupt his day.
--If you like Ghost stories, then A Ghost Story could be a good way t spend a few hours in a darkened room. It less scary and more charming. Recently deceased ghost Casey Afleck returns home to console his weeping widow Rooney Mara. He finds himself unstuck in time and can only watch his life he knew, and his wife, slip away.
--Critics love the documentary City Of Ghosts (Audiences not so much). It’s about the inhumanity of ISIS In Explores the slaughter and ISIS propaganda.

The Answer:
Volvo is from the Latin word “volvere” meaning “To Roll.” Interestingly the only  other car not necessarily named after inventor or founder and generally based on a Latin word is Audi. Well, Audi is kind of Latin and kind of after the founder August Horch. In German Horch is the infinitive of Horchen which means “To Listen (Carefully). The Latin translation of Horchen is “Audire”. How crazy is that? Bonus: This so-called “Love Summer” is said to have begun with Ken Kesey, The Merry Pranksters and their Bus “Further”. The key contributors to all of this crazy love were Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Jack Kerouac.

Well, there is obviously more to this world than you know.

Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
