When the winds blow.

Today's Tids Issue 3,907
For Mist off Cool Waters:

What did Shakespeare write — “The lady doth protest too much, me thinks”? There’s another well-known phrase out there, “She’s no lady, she’s my president”. Get the point. The more Donald Trump reacts defensively like a guilty man, the more he looks guilty. The intolerant progressives bind together cheering his downfall, shouting, “I hope he is!”. And the Trump supporters pray in unison, “I hope he isn’t.” His denials that are now reaching fever pitch protestations, really all started with the tax release refusal. “What’s there,” his foes would ask. “Let’s hope there’s nothing,” his fans would hope. Yet, the way he is talking lately leads me to believe he is feeling the pressure of somebody getting close to the meat. If that is what it looks like to me, a person who doesn’t want any presidency to fail, then think of the malicious glee in the hearts of the Trump haters. I don’t believe I have ever seen or read about as much anti-President intensity as we are seeing today. Progressives never die until they take control and ruin a good thing. But then, if the President hadn’t been acting so paranoid, had kept quiet and just done his job, we may not have ever reached this point at all.

In case you might be interested in historical achievements, The Providence Journal is the oldest continuous daily newspaper in The USA, today celebrating its 188th year. “Continuous” and “Daily” are the operative words. First Published in 1829, it is not the oldest as that title goes to the Hartford Courant which began in 1764. However, it didn’t become a Daily until 1837. And other current well known daily, the New York Post, first hit the newsstands in1801, but was not continuous having a hiatus between 1958 and 1978. You can always be a winner if you define yourself properly.

A bag of Moon Dust sold yesterday at auction for $1.8 Million. Check your drawers for old moon rocks and assorted debris. That’s my brand new retirement plan.

Have you noticed that the press doesn’t talk much about the reasons why Venezuela is in the worst shape of any American continent country, including Cuba? It’s probably because the country’s current status is the result of what they seem to support in their daily journalistic rhetoric: Socialism.

The Question:
Who were the stars of the pretty good movie “All the fine young cannibals”? Bonus: There are four unique and interesting facts about the making of this film.  Name them.

The US government is banning American travel North Korea. Americans want to go North Korea?

I have to say that the people hired by Mueller for his “independent” investigation don’t look like a group who would ever give a rich guy a break. And now that they are in his Trump Tower looking at financial records…! Scene Two: The assault on Trump switches from Russia to alleged financial misdeeds.

Speaking of getting the Rich, hedge fund owners and operators are facing tax bills that could be $25-100 Billion in cash to meet tax payment requirements after a major loophole was closed a decade ago. This was a tax law that allowed the delay of tax payments for overseas activities, which at the time made that income essentially tax free. At the closure, the idea was that the funds would pay it off  over the ten years before the due date nine months from now. The past several years have been tough on the funds as they tried to beat the markets. At the time of the closing of the Loophole by the IRS, I’m thinking that the big fund managers looked at their past and used those rosy years to project what they would have available by 2018. Maybe they should have talked to states pension fund managers. Oh wait, States pension managers were looking for income from these funds too. I can get you a nice Hamptons mansion by the sea, cheap.

The RI government thinks they are great marketers for the way they can increase passengers on the Train from Wickford to Boston and on the ferry from Providence to Newport. Their cleverness: they subsidize the riders. Then train was packed to Boston the other day – the cost for each rider: Z-E-R-O. The Ferry which is always full costs but a mere $5. The “Private Sector can’t do that” I’m sure they are saying under their breath. Of course, the powers in the state house are slapping each other on the backs espousing their genius strategy. These are the same people who have millions in unfunded pensions. This is why Venezuela is on the ropes.

But, the truth is that today more than ever people are looking to get the most that they can for their money. Take the coffee aisles in the grocery store for instance. You look at the high priced bagged coffee at regular prices and see nary a hole in the well stacked nicely designed bags. But, reduce the price, as did Starbucks last week from$9.99 o $6.99, and like magic the shelves are bare – yes, really, truly empty. I wait for prices to get to $5 or below. I wonder if that’s store by the same name sells coffee?

“All of the fine young Cannibals”. Today, it may indeed represent the Internet goliaths. Companies like Amazing who are buying or joining in compacts with successful retailers are destined to put their own new acquisitions out of business. When you induce retail customers to try the ease of Internet buying you are basically eating your own. The growth of internet sales doesn’t come from people who materialize out of moon dust, they come from the stores on Main Street an in malls. Think of what Wal-Mart might do to its own as they try to compete with Amazon. Yes, the fine young cannibals are the internet wonder children.

My typing has become so bad that it takes me longer to edit this mess than to write it. I know, I know…I hear it: “You call that editing!”

F. Lee Baily, the famed lawyer is dead broke! He is disbarred and his fans say it is his support of OJ that done him in. The real reason is that he embezzled some funds from-his drug dealer clients, in addition to a few other courtroom scandals. Some people, forget honesty as they trip through upon stage of the famous. Baily rose to fame on such big cases as Sam Sheppard and The Boston Strangler. He was the original whiz kid lawyer.

Reading Between the Lines Move Reviews:
--Dunkirk looks like a very good movie to me. Thousands of allied troops are surrounded by the Germans and have two options, fight forward and die or retreat into the sea and die. It is directed as a bit of a mystery with an excellent cast and plenty of drama. It is about a people’s armada coming to the rescue. I’m going. Critics and audiences love it.
--I won’t be taking in The Girls Trip, but if you like like R rated comedies that push boundaries, featuring five women traveling to New Orleans for a big festival, then it is yours. They rekindle friendships and re-expose their wild side. Lots of drinking, dancing, romancing and brawling, which some audiences will find uncomfortable.
--Landline is about two sisters trying to uncover their father’s assumed affair without letting their mom know what’s going on. They find many family secrets along the way. Probably not too bad of you like that kind of thing.

The Answer:
The cast of this film about the past of two southern couples who came from the very poor side of town, which came back to them as they sat among idle rich -- starred Robert Wagner, Natalie Wood, George Hamilton and Sunan Keoner as the leads with Pearly Baily as a club Jazz singer. Bonus: This was the first movie made by Wagner and Wood as a married couple. The film was directed by Lisa Minelli’s father Vincent. Rebert Wagner revealed later that he and Pearl Baily had an on-Screen affair that was cut for the final version for fear of roiling the Southern Audiences. The original lead couple was to have been Elizabeth Taylor and Elvis Presley,

May the winds blow you across beautiful seas, up majestic mountains; may the winds find you love and laughs and goodness. And most important, don’t let a little wind bother you on the tee!
