It’s a lyrical world

Today's Tids Issue 4,102
For Exorcising the Word Hate:

Mueller gets a bone
Raiding Attorney Cohen.
Trump tells Putin
I’m comin’ out shootin’;
Says the head of Syria
Seems like diarrhea.
Enjoy these morning’s treats

The main concern of the half the country is getting Trump out of office. Previous to this admin, half the country was devoted to getting Obama out of office. Do you get the picture? Just think if all the Americans forgot the specifics of ideologies and started to work together to solve real problems that hurt so many Americans; to look together for points of agreement. We might find some new solutions instead of trying to defend old efforts that haven’t worked.

There nothing musical about hate. There are no poems I can write. There are calming tunes about angry eyes, and black hearts.

The legendary fueders, Hatfields and McCoys, are a good example of groups not getting along when basically there is no longer a substantial reason to be hating. It’s just that generations were taught that part of life is hating the family across the valley. Makes no sense at all. Take the Sunnis and Shiites. These two Muslim groups believe fervently in Mohammad as the messenger for the one true God Allah. But in 632 a huge dispute arose when Mohammad died. The Shiites thought the successor should be in his blood line, while the Sunnis felt a pious person who follow the prophet’s customs would be just fine. That’s basically the schism that continues to divide today; not just people, but nations. In other words, they don’t hate each other, not necessarily because they really do, but because generations passed down hatred. So much hatred is based on eternal grudges, long ago misdeeds, festering meaningless differences; so much hatred is the result of irrational enthusiasm; so much hatred overlooks the humanity in people. So much is irrelevant. So much of our hatred should disappear. Just like that.

Americans who living in the same communities, going to the same churches walking quietly garden paths, use the word hate towards others. I will never understand why.

The Question:
The New England Confectionary company has been around for 137 years. Name five of their best-known candy treats?

Fox News this morning had this Internet headline: “College Lacrosse player scores goal after losing leg.” That must have been one bloody game.

The Voice. We are on the eve of the live performances, and I still can’t find any real favorites to follow. There was some talent on Monday and the judges went berserk several times. I personally liked Wilkes, but Britton Buchanan, Kelsea Johnson and Rashun LaMarr were also considered pretty good by TV viewers. There was something I liked about Alexa Capelli, even though her effort on her song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was average. Either it was her tone, or I just liked the song. The lives start next week, and the Tids Music and Entertainment staff will be on it.

It was sad to read that Lindsey Buckingham is going his own way. There has been little pop music I have enjoyed more than those days of Lindsey, Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks. See what the world misses when people can’t get along.

Speaking of Pop music. Some of those so-called super Grammy award singers in the tribute to Elton John last night were just not up to his music; looked pretty weak trying to get something out of his songs. But what always makes me laugh a bit at those glamour shows, is the fawning audience leaping out of their seats in applause.

Sometimes I look at what I write and think -- you are becoming incorrigible pain in the ass.

I’m cryin’ for Ryan. I ain’t lyin’. It’s tough to be a rational person in an irrational world.

Did you see where environmental scientists are saying snowfall in Antarctica is way up this year. Time to call their P/R department. We are now in a period of climate alteration due to the rift that is expected to split Africa in two halves.

There are No Pesticides in Gravy, Department:
In case you are interested, strawberries for the third year in arrow topped the “Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) Dirty Dozen”. These are the fruits an vegetables with the most pesticide residue. The rest of the top ten in order are Spinach, Nectarines, Apples, Grapes, Peaches, Cherries, Pears, Tomatoes and Celery. The cleanest are Avocados, Sweet Corn, Pineapples, Cabbage, Onions, Sweet Peas, Papayas, Asparagus, Mangoes sad Eggplants. I’ll eat potatoes.

The Answer:
Of course, New England Candy Company is NECCO and those thin chalky wafers were a food staple in my younger days. NECCO also owns my first favorite candy bar, The Clark bar, which has dwindled quite a bit in popularity. Their other products were Mary Jaen’s, “Squirrel Nut Zipper and those wonderful “Sweet Hearts”. The company may be going out of business, I guess people that hate in this world just don’t get the idea of simple little things like candy hearts that may say “I Love You” or “Be Mine” or Kiss me”.

I like the times of sweet and nice,
Tender chicken, gravy on rice.
Thoughts of mine kept under lock,
Saved for those in frilly frocks.
I like kicking dust on orchard paths
Lazing on beaches; warming sunbaths.
I like looking at those in the neighborhood
And only seeing in them, what is good.
