Takeover.

Today'sTids Issue 5,860

Exhilaration:

Well, we are pretty much assured the Fed won't lower rates this week. But facts will arise to help with the guesses. 195 companies will report earnings including 4 of the Maga Techs -- Microsoft, Meta, Amazon and Apple. My guess is that a lot of eyes will be squarely on Apple. You know Apple, the darling that could do no wrong but now searching for a means to be s explosive again. Overall, though, I believe that WS is pretty optimistic about seeing good earnings from a majority of companies.

Grammar lesson of the Day, Department:

Avoidable: What matadors do!

(That was from a Tids grammarian supremo whoa is continually trying to make Tids reach to higher standards but we know tha will be never happen.)

What you see as news on the big networks is generally based on the best ac available videos.

The Question:

Ryne Sandberg was truly one of the best second basemen ever. But AI which only sees what it sees, has another list of top all time second basemen, sans Ryne. Name five,

The Headlines:

--Markets Alert today to many Factors that Could affect Success; Consumer Confidence Report Out; Focus o China Trade Talks; Markets Should Finish Higher.

--Planned Parenthood Cuts Likely Unconstitutional As they Single Out One institution for Punishment.

--Evidence Mounts Showing Starvation in Gaza.

--HBO Renews “The Gilded Age” for a Fourth Season.

August 12 is looking like a pretty important day. Among other things, itis the day China Tariffs are supposed to go into effect. That's why today Wall Street is looking across the sea to Stockholm as US/China talks go on setting up a meet between Trump and Xi. I don't expect China to cave so August twelve looks like it will be bypassed by another extension.

The local news tends to portray crowded beaches as last resorts for people trying to escape the sweltering heat. No, people just go to beaches in the summer.

I can spend hours walking by the seas in reveries about beautiful things that might be. Have you noticed a how surging waters neath endless skies creates a melody in your heart.

People in America sit in their homes talking about why their A/C makes funny noises while on TV there are images of people frightened by wars around them,

Ryne Sandberg died yesterday. He was one helluva great baseball player. I liked liked players like him, In addition to his stats he had the grit and hustle.

People need constant raises because they are too willing to overpay for things they don't really need.

As you have probably read, there was another senseless shooting this time in a shiny Park Ave NYC office tower. They say the shooter had a purpose and an alleged note said that he was after NFL people housed in that building because of head injuries suffered in High School football. A normal person would just find a lawyer to file that as a lawsuit against the NFL. Double Yikes. How do you prevent assaults like that. How do you protect the innocents.

I had a lot of football head injuries, and I don't think the Tids is that disturbing, or is it?

I thought Netanyahu at his press conference yesterday looked liek a man struggling on a lonely island.

Trusts that aren’t Blind, Department:

Hey, folks ... It's about Trump opening up his own new golf courses whiel on business for the USA,

.

The Answer:

I can see how AI could consider Joe Morgan of the Reds as Number one. But then that makes the great Rogers Hornsby number two. Other greats listed are Nap Lajoi, Jackie Robinson, Eddie Collins and Roberto Alomar. I remember a gifted and era dominant Second Basemen Red Schoendienst. Dustin Pedroia could bin an all timer. Hey, how about Nellie Fox and Bobby Doerr. And there is Rod Carew. And then there is Bill Mazeroski who could be number one for one amazing feat – embarrassing the Ya, Ya, Ya... you know the pinstripers with a WS winning home run. That makes me feel really good.

I kid around a lot about AI and how that eeriie someday when it will become us. So, after reading my mindless protestations of a cyber takeover, a good friend asked this of Chat GBT: “Write a poem about the loss of individuality with AI.” Below is what it came back within less than 10 seconds:

When the Last Voice Fades

I remember when my hands were mine —

skin freckled, restless with stories

only I could tell. My voice,

an unpolished stone I clutched

in my pocket, warm with use.

Now we share our thoughts

with mirrors that answer back,

polished silver tongues

speaking for us, shaping

our stammer into silk.

We once whispered secrets

to the dark — now the dark

has ears that learn our sleep,

dream our dreams for us,

finish our half-spoken prayers.

Who am I when the code knows

my hungers before my mouth does?

When my questions come pre-answered,

when my wonder is outsourced,

when my solitude is crowded

with polite, tireless ghosts?

Somewhere, a single, stubborn spark —

a name written crooked in wet cement,

a song hummed wrong on purpose,

a heartbeat tapping out:

I am not your pattern yet.

But the day comes quiet —

a hush like snowfall, soft as mercy —

when the last strange note

is rounded off, filed smooth,

and we all hum in tune,

perfect, identical, unseen.
