The Big Countdown.

Today's Tids Issue 5,949

 The Silver Bell Grind:

Well, we had more food than any group could possibly eat. but we had no trouble digesting the laughter. Hope you all felt the magnificent glow of a thankful day,

A new NBC poll says that 67% of Americans don't think four years of college is worth the cost, The other third of the population are football and basketball players.

I like this new concept S&P493. To get a fairer picture of the economy based on stock market activity, an enterprising analyst, with many financial icons like Berkshire and Goldman following, removed the Mag Seven Trillion-dollar companies from the traditional 500. What he found was a less glam economy with many companies struggling. They found that all tech startups are not gold. Berkshire Hathaway found when you take out those seven, the ten-year growth of the now 493 was down 80% to –2% YtD. The ten year return on investment is also more positive for the stocks averaging 17 times earnings versus the robust seven at 40 times earnings +6.18% to 1,5%. There are some very strong companies in the 493, like financials. But the 493 represents the true average measurement weights of the good and the bad, not overwhelmed by the astonishing.

The Question:

“...And in the naked light I saw

 Ten thousand people, maybe more

 People talking without speaking

 People hearing without listening...”

Who wrote that.

The Headlines:

--Sarah Beckstrom, One of two shot National Guards, Dues.

--Markets Up on Slow Day; Will Bring See-Saw Month to Close.

--Trump Says He Will Permanently Stop Migrations from “Poor” Countries.

--Hong Fire Death Toll up to 128.

--China Developing Supersonic Plane that can Circumnavigate the globe in 7 hours,

--Flooding from Extreme Weather in Indonesia and Sri Lanka Kills Scores.

Everybody is scouring the 493 looking for the next AI blockbuster. Maybe Fan Duel can find it.

A German, an Englishman and an Irishman are killed in a car accident on Christmas day. They are quickly Facing Saint Peter at the Pearly gates whi says: If you have something on you that relates to Christmas I will let you in. The German pulls out a cigarette lighter and  clicks it on: The star of Bethlehem.” He goes in. The Englishman pulls out his car keys and rattles them : "Jingle Bells”, The gate opens. The Irishman shuffles around in his pocket and finally pulls out a bra: It from Carol

Hey, Black Friday is the start of Christmas, right?

Baltimore, Kansas City and Detroit proved one thing yesterday  they are getting old

There are a few more NCAA football games of interest this weekend. Mostly because  of rivalries which remind us of where teh fervor for college football emanated. Georgia- Georgia Tech a true classic would have actually been relevant to today's money-ball if the Rambling Wreck had won last week. Georgia is in another league. Another similar situation is #2 Indiana against archrival but woeful woeful Perdue. And South Carolina-Clemson will still be argued among fans, but neither has been exceptional this year. There is one with all the trappings, and that is the big one of Michigan versus #1 Ohio State. Michigan has improved all year long. They are primed to make life hard for the Playoff honchos by beating OSU and sending Indiana to the top of the B10. I'm rooting for Michigan and their great fight song.

All my plants outside are dead as expected and ready for winter – except two yellow wildflowers that still look like Spring. It is amazing what things like that can do for smiles on faces.

It’s getting to a point for even this old sports nut that sprots on TV are becoming a blur

Maybe Ill just go down to Walmart and watch consumers fight over TVs Will Fan Duel offer Props on that?

Assaulting the US judiciary system is not good for America.

Sports is probably on teh way to a slow death liked so many other popular trends doomed by overexposure.

I really do worry about what will happen to humankind when AI takes over so many basic jobs. I believe people need challenges

Technology has made it possible for us lying comfortably in a lounge chair to know simultaneously that there are enormous life altering events the world over.

I don't live my life waiting for the next big holiday, but advertisers tell me I am.

The Answer:

They are the words of Paul Simon in Sounds of Silence. But, you knew that.

Enjoy the second half of essentially a four-day weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!

For a little changeup, another version of the Sounds of Silence:
