Today's Tids Issue #2,637
Opening Stuff:
One more week til the opening of NFL camps!
Is there anything
more pathetic than a man trying to explain how he looked everywhere for
an item magically produced out of thin in 3 1/2 seconds by a women. A
smiling women. Standing there. Watching him squirm.
Oh yeah,
there probably is something more pathetic. How about pulling back the
curtain revealing what's really going on with Libors. They say that
about $800 Trillion in investments are affected by the way big banks
play self-serving games with interbank interest rates. Like many things
in The Global
Investment community before "Creative" banking, it wasn't always so
with Libors -- formally a legitimate rate set by Thomsn-Reuters to
govern borrowing by banks. Oh, the rate is still set legitimately, but
the data that finally arrives at the rate setter after going through a
web of manipulation is far from clean. The result is that the investors,
whose money the banks are using, do not get the full return. By
falsifying true interest rates,The banks are essentially siphoning-off
for the personal benefit of their executives. As columnist Matt Taibbe
says, -- "It's the equivalent of robbing a charity or church to pay for a
lap dance." If you want to know what's really going on in this complex
maze, you have to ask someone smarter than I.
The Question:
What band started playing together 50 years ago today?

Does
anybody on the public stage raise their noses higher in the air
than Hillary C? O, maybe Barak O! "I look down on you." Check it out.
Looking up into nostrils has never been great for public self esteem.
The new data
from CNBC once again puts RI at the Top of the list titled, Worst
Business Climate! This really isn't news at all, since it has been
horrific here for businessmen of quite a while. The problem here is one
that occurs in situations throughout society. Everybody knows what the
problem is, but the solutions suggestions are never relevant to the real
problem, and often mask the the real situation. It happens in
marriages, businesses, organizations and of course here in RI.
US Entitlement group #73:
"Hey, I've got a cute little, tight fitting outfit and expensive
vehicle. How come the taxpayer isn't
building an expensive bike-path for me?" Of course the entitled are
always creative. So this group has massed together, dominating streets
barely two cars wide and force cars to slow until it is safe to pass.
And I won't even mention their apparent inability to stop at stop signs.
Drivers just have to drive with their hearts in their throats hoping
they won't hit one of these creatures.
In the last three weeks, Newport
where I dwell has welcomed the worlds greatest sailors for the
America's cup series, hoards of plain ole' folks to gawk at the tall
ships, 32 professional tennis players from around the world, many
olympics bound, for the Campbell Tourney (Yes the Soup) as a prelude to
the induction of new Hall Of Famers. And now music! Newport has been
known for its Jazz and Folk festivals (Coming in August), but the
greatest of all events is The Newport Music festival, whicf lasts two
weeks and includes much of the great new (and established) classical
talent in the world. The concerts continue all day long, some days
through Midnight, and are set throughout the town in the fine parlors of
historic mansions. "Newport -- The something for Everybody Town".
I'd like to start reviewing "America's Got Talent" and picking winners, but I keep falling asleep. It must be too much Howie Mandel.
I'm checking out that
new list Developed by Nielson called, "TV's Most Powerful Moments". I
totally agree with #1 - September 11 2001, but that's where it ends.
Katrina was second - but to me only powerful because it was on air so
much. The assassination of JFK was only #15 and I would put that at a
definite 1 or 2. Hell, they have the "Death of Whitney Houston" at 12
and Obama's "Acceptance speech at 13. Of the rest (http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/tv-most-memorable-moments-911-oj-katrina-nielsen-121010226.html),
I would only find about two or three more out of twenty that rate the
Title of of "Most Powerful" anything. The Challenger Disaster, Oklahoma
City Bombing, Columbine and maybe the OJ Verdict would make it on my
list. Maybe Diana's death as an interesting news item but not as a
something powerful. If we are going back as far as JFK, I'm thinking how
about Watergate or Clinton/Lewinsky as glued to TV events. Whitney
Houston's Death? Man have we lost touch.
The Answer:
The
Rolling Stones have been making music for fifty years today. They've
given us a lot of satisfaction, but even they can't get me off of my
cloud today. Oh maybe later we should all go to Ruby Tuesday's for
dinner, and
raise a glass...or what ever gets them high. Hey, maybe we could order
take-out from RT', go to a hospital and get high with a few of our
friends. Oh, different group.
Knowing out cultural mindset, I'm really surprised that Michael Jackson's death didn't beat out 911.
I'm outta here.
Maybe the theme song
for the Romney campaign should be "You can't always get (handed) what
you want." But you can work for it. Do you think Mick would agree to a
rewrite?
