Shluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrp.

Today's Tids Issue 2,705
Opening Stuff:

Well I'll be damned. It's November already. I guess things sneak up on you when a storm wipes out a week. Well October behaved like a backwards March, but giving us a calm and pleasant November start. Unless, of course you are one of those people who I can't get out of mind.; People standing in two feet of water, atop a up-side-down home or...seeing no home at all. The highlight of November has always been Thanksgiving. Lets hope more people will be able to give thanks by then.

Big Sucking Sound Department:
A good reader sends in a thought about where all of this Jobs overseas phenomina really started in earnest. "I seem to remember Ex Pres.Clinton was involved in the signing of the NAFTA accord. If my memory is serving me right it seems as if we started to lose American jobs to other countries soon after." It appears my friend is right as manufacturing quickly sent whole factories of workers across the southern border. The Pre-Nafta US trade surplus of $10 million grew to a trade deficit in excess of $91 Billion today. So, I guess the question my friend and I have is: Where was the mighty US press when the Dems were beating up Romney about sending jobs to China? I guess it's all a question of exactly what si is?

There are just too many people who think all the Electric Utility has to do is put the plug back in the socket.

The Question:
How does Sandy rank as one of the costliest Economic disasters?

The Headlines:
--Final Lap Of campaign Is On; Obama Running Against Bush; Clinton Is Surrogate.
--Storm Death Toll Rising; Parts Of Middle Atlantic Will Take Years To Rebuild; NYC Running Out Of Fuel As Coast Guard Keeps Oil Hub Closed..
--China Economy regaining Traction.
--Markets Up On Consumer Confidence Data And Bullish Over Tomorrow's Key Jobs Report.

--Happy Birthday Sistine Chapel -- 500 Years Old Today.
Well, If the Tids Sports Department had gone with the beloveds, we would have been 11-3 last week, But 10-4 is better than some of those dreadful early weeks. The record now stands at 70-48 bringing us to a still mediocre hair under 60%. Whew -- a long way to go to get back up to prior years. Tonight could be the "Coaches-who-could-get-Fired Bowl". I'm picking San Diego over KC. I like GB over Zona, Chi to squeak past a tough Tennessee and Houston beating a plucky Buffalo. Carolina is due but the Skins are playing better. So it's Wash in the Young-QB-Phenoms-Bowl. I like the Jax Owner but Detroit is a better team. Denver is gelling and will take Cinn. Miami is playing gangbusters but QB sensation is hurting. Andrew won't be lucky against the Fish (I mean Mammal). Balt should handle the lovable Browns and Seattle won't lose 3 in a row at home against the Vikes. I gotta take Oakland over TB, But I'm not that sure. Wow -- Pitt and NYG. The Jints are home, but I like Rothlisberger (As a football player only). Steelers for me.. Atlanta will survive against the bungling Cowboys and in the "Supposed-to-be-Good" Bowl, I'm picking a disappointing Philly over a disappointing NO. Or is it the other way around.

In case you missed it, Warren Buffet is betting on the resurgence of the housing market, buying up real estate brokerage companies around the country. He has formed a new unit -- Berkshire's HomeServices of America. And no, he didn't name Barney Frank as CEO.

Phrases I'd like to do away with: "Senior Moment." If I knew what it meant, I'd give you a reason.

There is something intrinsically distasteful to me about the thought of the UN monitoring US elections.

This was a perfect New England day for golf. 55 degrees, unbelievably clear air, leaves all blown away by Sandy, and no people at all on the course. The last part is the best reason of all for Fall NE golf, of course.

The big ocean is just lolling, rolling along next to the devastation it wrought. Like the kid who broke the neighbors window,  like the cat that ate the canary, it seems to be saying "Who, me?"

The next big storm already brewing will be Gore against the sane. The global warmers are already taking ownership of Sandy. But, pictures of the damage here looks no different than those old photos for Carol's destruction and the 1938 which killed thousands and devastated a region. There maybe climate change, but oddball storms happen all the time. The Gore-gang just thinks they happen for them,

Why America is Still Good department:
In Pakistan the parents of a teen age girl poured acid on her face and body, killing her in what must have been a painful death -- For talking to a boy. I thought they had texting over there.

One of two things are happening at the White House tonight: Either they are holding their collective breath in anticipation of the Job report tomorrow, or they are clinking champagne glasses because they have already talked to the guy in the Labor department about "nice" numbers. It is similar in the Romney headquarters, except that there is a Repub team ready to pounce on the report if it's too good.

So now Bill Clinton, the guy who sold big labor down the drain, is the chief spokesman for the guy who is apolgizing to the world for America.

The Answer:
Katrina is the all time leader with a "Total Economic Impact" of $157 Billion. Next is 911 at $99 Bil, Hurricane Andrew (1992) $54 Bill and Sandy at a projected $50 Mil. They are mentioning Obama's multi-Trillion in debt.

For me, the first two days of this week were quite relaxing because the Stock Market was closed.

Anybody want to trade an apple for a Reeces?
