Just be ready to be surprised

Today's Tids Issue 5,181

Does anybody really know:

A lot of Wall Street analysts are positioning themselves for something they are really not sure will happen. In other words, there is a lot of confusion and conflicting opinions coming across the ticker. Yesterday, JP Morgan's super smart CEO Jamie Dimon warned get ready for a little darkness. At the same time his company’s really smart analyst Dubravsko Lakos was saying he excepts the S&P to end the year at 4900. (It was at 4118 when I last looked this morning)

I put my grandma on speed dial the other day. I call it insta-gram.

How often do you see news report or read of a terrible accident and find that the cause of it is a driver with a suspended license? Laws don’t matter to criminals.

I get a sense that the honchos of Wall Street would rather see a slow, considered comeback than the kind of snapback we had at the end of last week and the beginning of yesterday. Get ready for warning signs.

I always liked Queen Elizabeth's smile and the brightness of her eyes. I’m glad she is having a good week.

The Question:

Name the five best Tom Cruise movies.

The Headlines:

--Market Futures Look Up; Investors Looking At Employment data.

--Another Madman Goes Wild Shooting In A Tulsa Medical Center; Four dead, Multiple Injured.

--Russia Furious Over US Delivery Of HIMARS Rockets.

--Killer Hurricane Agatha Sweeps Across Mexico.

--US And Taiwan Sign New Trade Initiative.

--England Paying Proper Tribute To Their Queen.

Quotes about life from Hellen Keller just seem a little more meaningful to me.

Techs adding value to economy, Department:

This makes sense—Tech companies that add real value to an economy should be able to resist the ups and downs of eh faddish plays. Here’s a list that popped up. It's an interesting group. Microsoft: Its wildly diversified portfolio, cloud business and business applications portfolio make it a staple to almost every enterprise. ServiceNow: Last week at its investor day, the company provided a bullish outlook, targeting $16 billion in recurring revenue by 2026 as companies invest in workflow and process automation. IBM: If the VMware and Broadcom deal excites investors, a company like IBM, which owns Red Hat, should have an allure. IBM has also held up exceptionally well during the tech downturn. Qualcomm: Almost every 5G device on the planet somehow ties back to Qualcomm. Between its growing diversification into auto and the internet of things (IoT) and its handset licensing agreements with every OEM/ODM globally, the company has a bright future. Nvidia: AI is a board-level priority at nearly every enterprise. Nvidia’s data center business grew 83% last quarter and has become its most prominent business segment, surpassing its gaming revenue. (Source: MarketWatch)

I have a split personality,’ said Tom, being Frank.

Let’s hear it for a couple of Dinosaurs, Department:

IBM! Microsoft! It shows you that good solid companies often get lost in the publicity surrounding quick money emotions. When all they do is analyze their strengths and weaknesses and the changing techno/economic environment, and adapt.

It looks like Johhny Depp won the disagreeable couple's lottery $15 Mil to $2 Mil. I have no real knowledge of this TV production and no opinion except, why did national news spend so much time reporting it.

Today is, National Moonshine Day. Eeeeehaaa!

I’m not sure the driver who caused the horrible Memorial Day accident in Lincoln Nebraska had a suspended license, but we now know he had a suspended mind. He was on marijuana.

One smart analyst said yesterday that we have already factored into stock prices so much bad news that we should Technically be close to a bottom.

I see this ad that says doctors recommend at least ten servings of vegetables and fruits a day. I don’t eat ten servings of anything a day, unless, of course, a handful Cheetos is a serving.

There is a new story of a California lifeguard who made $500 K last year. That’s half a million dollars for being a lifeguard. I’m not surprised. Overtime far municipal employees, mainly fireman and police, is one of the biggest and fastest growing costs of running a local government today.

Today is, now get this, National Leave the Office Early Day! It's not like it is hard enough to find a enough honest hardworking employees. “Hey, my waitress said she’d be back with a beer....” Oops!

I remember as a kid being told, “If you want security work for the government. If you want money work in the private sector.” Now everybody wants to work for the government. That's another way the USA has changed, and why the growth of government maybe unstoppable.

The Answer:

According to the voting on this list, Tom’s best movie was, Edge of Tomorrow. (I never heard of it, but it looks good, and I may have to find it somewhere). Next was Top Gun followed by A Few Good Men (My #1), Rain Man, Mission Impossible, Jerry Maguire, The Firm, The Last Samurai, The Minority Report and #10, Jack Reacher.

The man who survived both mustard gas and pepper spray is a seasoned veteran now.

It’s inflation, stupid.
