The way you look at it

Today's Tids Issue 5,886

They're always there:

It’s Friday. I still look forward to Fridays. And I love my Saturday and Sunday mornings. I have expectations for Mondays and Wednesdays too. And yet most will tell you that we you reach my stage of life all days seem to be the same, and they fly by fast. Maybe that's why I try to make some days special so I can hold on to my time.

Well, old age must be creeping in. I always write the TidsPickin’s on Thursday before the game that night. All I can say is that ai would have written that Philly will be in cruise control as they destroy a disjointed Cowboy team and I would have been wrong except for getting the win. The Cowboys looked better. The rest of the Picks are below.

Your beloved Tids Punster Laureate writes to say that he won the big lottery... when he was born in the USA!

Has anybody ever offered you a pay package like this. If Musk can grow the Value of Tesla stock to $8.5 Trillion, he would get a bonus of 423 million shares worth just about One Trillion Buckaroos. In other words, the Board is telling Elon, stay out of politics and focus on the company and will make you more super rich than you already are.

The Question:

What were the top TV shows in 1968. Just to prove that time can stand still when you go back into your memories.

The Headlines:

--New Jobs Creation Report Comes in way Short – 22K against 75K estimate; July Jobs Total revised to 79K; Three Major Markets Down Significantly in Midmorning; Jobs Reort Assures Rate Cut..

--Putin Rejects 26 Nation Security in Ukraine; Says Any Militray in Ukraine would Be Prime Russia Targets.

--ICE Arrests 475 South Koreans at Massive Hyundai Battery Manufacturing Site in Georgia; Hyundai Says None are their Employees.

--Trump to Rename Department of Defense Department of War.

--NY AG Appeals Decision to Abandon Huge Penalty for Trump.

--Businesses Sitting on Hands as they See Tariff Situation Still in Limbo.

The Musk package reminds us of just how much money there is floating around the globe. It is probably why stock market crashes are a thing of the past because the roster of the NBA All Star team could stop a crash if necessary.

Well folks it's a new year for the TidsPickers, though a day late. Despite all the experts, this has always been the who knows part of the season. So let's get started and hope for luck There are two really key appearing games--Baltimore at Buffalo and Green Bay at Detroit. You can throw into that mix games like KC-LA Chargers, and Minn-Chi. Games where rivalriescould induce upsets are Giants-Washington, Cinncy-Cleveland and for me the Pats Raiders game.

The easiest picks seem to be Denver over Tenn, and also perhaps Pitt over The Jets if Rogers can break away from last year’s Jet’s slump. I hate to tell my friends in Cleveland that I think Cincy should have it easy against a somewhat disjointed Browns team in the Ohio classic. I like Miami in close one over Indy, -- teams that seem in nowhere’s-ville. Ive got Tampa Bay over Atlanta and Arizona over New Orleans. But that could be close. Another close game should be the Niners and the Seahawks. Did San Fran get better? I think they did. The Rams should take Houston, but it will be a good game. I'm picking Jax oveer Carolina in the struggling franchise bowl. I think the Jax new coach will get more out of Trevor Lawrence and besides the new Coach Coen is a RI kid.

Of the posers above, I like Washington to burst the Giants bubble. Chicago for a change has promise, though Minn is also well coached. Il take da Bears Kansas City will start better this year because the Magician seems more motivated, And Kelsey isnt going to let his fiancé down. KC over the Chargers. People are loving Green Bay. But I will stay with the Lions. The real tossup is Baltimore and Buffalo. Two great QBs playing for two teams that know how to win. I'm going Bisons. Now the real game, two 4-13 teams of last year looking for respectability, the Beloved Pats against the Las Vegas Raiders. Of course, I'm picking the Pats because I am a hopeless Homer.

I find those Charmin commercials with the red bears annoying.

Nobody has successfully replaced these two great comics -- Calvin and Hobbes and the wonderous Far Side. One of most arduous strips for my fragile mind is also missing form my paper now -- The Argyle Sweater whcih often super clever and funny but also often not understandable. One funny Argyle has a group of frogs sitting around a table while one says, in answer to another’s “What a Party” exclamation: “Well, you know what they say, “Times fun when you’re having flies.”

Unless of course, I’m thinking it was group of Chinese frogs saying, Times fun when you're having fries. It might be true but not funny.

I was having a nice cloudy day until the the sun came out and I feel guilty not doing anything. Now I’ll have to fix something.

The USA established their Military Operations as the War Department in 1789. The navy broke away in 1798 to establish the Navy Department. That’s the way it was until 1947 when the Military came under the newly named Department of Defense. At that time the Department of the Army and Air Force were established joining Navy as the three under the D of Defense. Now we’re revisiting the War Department name because, they say, it makes the US look meaner.

It seems that younger generations want parks that do something instead of just being unincumbered outdoor spaces that are calming.

Well we got half the American twosome into the women's US Open finals.  Amanda made it after a gutsy win and Jessica didn’t after playing her heart out in a tough loss, Its Anisimova against Sabalenka. That sounds a little like the Moscow City Championship.

Today at the Open we have the men’s semifinals with old Djokovic against Alcaraz and Sinner versus Aliassimi. Sinner should keep on winning, but does Novak still have enough to keep up with the tough Alcaraz. Should be a great match with lots of support I believe for Djokovic.

The Answer:

The top shows of that year were Rowen and Martin’s Laugh-In, Gomer Pyle, Bonanza, Mayberry RFD, Family Affair, Bewitched, Ed Sullivan, and Carol Burnett. Seems like yesterday.

Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!! I hope you use your time well,
