Spooky spontaneity.

Today's Tids Issue 5,929

What it was isn't:

I remember the days of finding stuff around the house to wear and go out looking my scariest on Halloween night, To stand there bag in hand hoping it wasn't going to be a penny or popcorn ball or apple. And then on those very rare occasions when somebody would slip a whole Hershey bar into my sack my smile would gclow like a thousand happy Jack-o-Lanterns!

The economy is getting scary according to a new Yahoo/YouGov poll. 60% of Americans disapprove of how Trump is handling the economy. 56% think that it is going to get worse, up 9 points since March. 76% of adults think grocery prices are rising while a mere 7% think somehow, they are going down. Gov spokes people are always awash with superlatives, but people's wallets always tell them more. And that's where trust begins to deteriorate.

The Question:

Just in time for Halloween, a new report said that rat populations in cities is increasing. Name the US cities with the biggest rat populations.

The Headlines:

--Strong Earrings Reports Yesterday by Apple and Amazon will Push Markets Higher today; Netflix Announces 10-1 Stock Split while Looking at Bid for Warner/Discovery

--Jamaica Death Toll Rising. Country is “Flattened”.

--Trump Calls for Repubs to Use “Nuclear Option: to end Filibuster; Snap Recipiants on Edge; Millions Looking At Life without Health Insurance.

--Tickets Sales for Kennedy Center of for Performing Arts Plummeting Mainly Due to Policital Division,

--In New Poll by Yahoo/YouGov has 73% of Americans rating

Economy as Poor or Fair while 24% rate it as excellent.

Wouldn't it be great if we somehow replaced Partisan voting with intelligent voting.

There was a small item in the back of the newspaper this morning that heightened my annoyance at the inane White House performance about Tylenol. You remember the lineup of officials standing there panting a decades long successful drug black mush to the delight of class action lawyers and now teh State of Texas. The article had Kennedy saying: There is no sufficient evidence Tylenol definitely causes Autism.” The F&D Agency has also said there are causal studies where a relationship has not been established and there are contrary studies in the Scientific literature.” Yet the “A has been branded upon the forehead of Tylenol Parent company Kenvue and even more dangerous seeded in the minds of uniformed buyers. Can Kenvue  sue the US government?

(Somehow that damn Chat Copilot thing changed the font on the above Tidlet, and I cant get it back. And I wasted time.) Just in case you are confused.

With immense government power comes even more immense responsibility.

There aren’t a lot of what I would call interesting games on the college agenda this weekend. The one everybody earlier was liking forward to – Ohio State versus Penn State has lost its enthusiasm with the collapse of the Nittany Lions, But the crowds in the stadium will be huge hoping for a Susan Boyle moment. People are loving the rise of Vanderbilt. Their game with Texas will probably be the game I watch too. The Catholic School battle between Boston College and Notre Dane has been big around here (Remember the Flute Hail Mary?) but this year BC just isn't competitive, and ND is licking their chops. If Florida was any good, the battle against Georgia would be huge, Hey, it will still be huge because SEC fans flock to games. I wouldn't be surprised if this one was closer than some think it will be. And My Lehigh Team will continue unbeaten against Georgetown

There are only two universities in the uSA with Brown and White as their school colors – Brown and Lehigh. How dull. I still wear brown shoes with blue suits.

Only 12% of Americans like the current system of day Light Saving Time. Most would prefer to keep the daylight hour we lose this weekend. And I am one of them. How am I going to drive out for take-out food when the day goes black.

I heard people in Boston talking yesterday saying tehe cost of a cocktail is hitting $20 bucks. No cocktail is worth $20. I could buy nice bottle of Vodka for $20 and sit in a corner and be happy. On a similar thought, it was reported today that the collective beer, wine and alcohol stocks have lost $830 Billion in valuations in just four years. One big reason – Gen Z and Millennials are shifting away from Booze.

BTW, how to you discern the $20 unique concoction in the second cocktail.

Many, many years ago a good reader asked his dad, “Can my Ha costume be car battery jumper cables?” His dad said, “Yes, but don't start anything.

Isolating Red and blue states is just as damaging to common sense as identity politics

Help stamp out, eliminate and abolish redundancy.

Speaking of big college money, the Governor of Louisiana is getting involved the act after the LSU AD fired Keely and paid him $52+ Million to go. He said we will never agin wrieta cintract likethis. Today the AD was fired too. No extra ayout. Even politicians can occasionally know waste when they see it.

The Answer:

I know, its kind of scary to realize what maybe crawling amongst us. This year for the first time Los Angeles has moved to number one replacing perennial rat champ Chicago. After #2 Chicago we have New Yor, San Fran, DC (No comment), Detroit, Philadelphia, and Hartford CT. Others are Baltimore, Denver, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Boston, Seattle, Indy, Atlanta, Columbus and San Diego. Remember that the early bird gets the worm and the second rat gets the cheese.

Sometimes the news looks bleak, or you may feel disappointment or heartache; are spinning wheels and getting nowhere. But there is a way and people find it. I like the song below, and the woman singing is a good reminder is that perseverance can overcome perceived obstacles.

Hope this carries you into a happy weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
