Order Arms:
24/7 an elite squad guards the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. And millions of veterans remember because they never forget those left behind. And today even more millions remember those who fought and endured the horror to assure our freedoms so much a part of the core of America,
I was in the Army andI did what I was told. But I would never have been a great soldier. But I did win an award one day for having the most starch in my uniform.
Well, teh Senate voted in the extension of the budget which will keep the government open for a few months so they can argue soem more. So now it moves along where we will see a fight and a half in the House.
Biologists have crossed a watermelon with a cauliflower. People who eat the new variety get a sense of sadness known as meloncauli.
The next great invention might be a way to store mega amounts of data without the need of excess energy; of that enormous consumption that can exhaust a country's capacity to provide basic power needs. I’ll be working on it if I can learn the new math.
The Question:
Why is today Veterans' Day called Armistice Day in the rest of the world and not here?

An interesting fallout from this shut down is that the numerous flight cancelations may deter House representatives from getting back to Washington for the Budget extension vote. Who knew?
I just saw a news item that said in 2024 Americans lost $48 Billion to Fraud, Scams and Identity Theft. Personally, I open nothing that I didn't request. I may miss something, but it won't be much compared to what I might lose.
I thought the big idea behind the tariffs was to use this bonanza of cash to begin paying down the National Debt. I guess Trump and his admin figured that paying $2k to citizens was better for getting votes. Which is why we have the national debt in the first place – buying votes (Fulfilling campaign promises) with money we don't have.
Speaking of massive data centers, Google just spent $15 Billion for a humongous center in India, joining Amazon and Meta large investments, and with expectations for another $25-$30 Billion to be sent by 2030. The tech communities say that India by 2028 will consume the most data in the world higher than the bigs like the USA, Europe and China. India's advantage is a combo of low-cost energy and world class tech talent. And f course there is a “But”. Isn't there always? These centers also consume vast amounts of water whivh has produced seriously noticible. “Water Stress” in urban areas. This could be the single greatest element that could slow the thinking about the advantages of datacenter growth, In other words the human needs of people may be the resistance ot wild Artificial intelligence expansion.
What do you call a medieval lamp? A knight light.
Super wealthy Larry Ellison's son David now CEO of Paramount after buying it for $8 billion has obviously as his main intention making it a good investment, That may mean using it as a core for buying more of Hollywood like Warner and Discovery. But for now, it means cutting jobs at CBS, and Wall Street likes it. Over the years I’ve been monitoring the way things were that may never be again, and this Paramount move to gut the old and invest in the new is just the way it is going to go, I don't like it personally, but my generation is not the one that grew up finding everything in life on phones.
Wendy's is cutting underperforming stores as Profits drop to $138 Billion. I think it is because they have mediocre fries.
You can see clearly the steady growth of soccer enthusiasts around the country. And this summer with the World Cup grasping Americans, it it could becoem bigger than one of our four major sports leagues.
In case anybody missed it, this stoppage on the way to an endling is mainly about the Obama tax credits for Health care for about 24 Million Americans. Do they now just get dumped into Medicaid. Regardless of what Congress decides, the people are still there.
I guess you would have to call last night's NFL game a classic defensive struggle. And stunned by the rest of last week's schedule full of surprises.
It seems that just about every day I see a news item about Sydney Sweeny and frankly I just don't care.
A stern-faced doctor asks his patient to sit. He says “I have some bad news and some terrible news.” The patient pales but sucks it up, "Tell me the bad news." The doctor sisal, You have 24 hours to live.” “OMG,” cries the patient. “What could be worse?” “I forgot to call you yesterday”, says the stone-faced Doc.
A good friend of mine sent me a note saying that it is illegal to laugh our loud in Hawaii. No wonder I’m not hearing yucks on Tid jokes. But I don't belive anythign I read, so I looked up that fact and found it was a myth oft repeated. It seems it's illegal to make any noise at night, and during parties' laughter can be the culprit that lands yuckers in jail.
The Answer:
In the USA it was also Armistice Day until 1954. A Armistice Day celebrated the Armistice for WWI (Armistice -- An agreement between both sides to stop fighting). In 1954 we decided that since WWII and the Korean War we should honor all US soldiers and not just those from WWI. So, Congress changed it to Veteran’s Day.
Happy Veteran’s Day, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
