Today's Tids Issue 5,935
That's all folks:
A good friend asked if I had seen the film Tractor. “No.” I replied, “But I’ve seen the Trailer.”
Yes, insanity reigns today.
Wall Street likes today as the Senate seems prepared to end the shutdown. 8 moderate Dems moved to endorse a GOP solution that would open the Government until January 30, 2026. It would bar Trump from firing Fed employees and Dem leadership hopes to create ample time to resolve conflicts on mainly healthcare. The earliest the House can vote to approve today’s action is Wednesday, and probably Thursday. But... there's always something potentially disruptive in government decision making. Bernie and a block on the lefty side have risen to denounce this “hideous” Senate vote. And vow to deter speedy passage. And then Speaker Johnson is saying he only “Thinks” he has the votes. Reading beyond the headlines is still quite messy. But The Street is going crazy anyhow.
A lot of people I talk to believe the problem eating away at the foundation of American culture is the growing lack of taking responsibility for their actions. Responsibility to the needs of functioning civilized society
Sam Altman says, “AI is the sport of Kings”.
Now they have “Grass fed” beef jerky. Health or environmental descriptors is a good way to increase margins.
The Question:
What’s a good way to be remembered after you die?

Peter Thiel, a wealthy Trump supporter, says we shouldn't overlook the election of Mamdani as just the will of a lot of losers. In research, he says, 70% 0f Millennials are aok with Socialism and are disenchanted with capitalism, as affordability of everything clouds their futures. The boomers have road the crest and those behind them are awash in debt and disillusion. Theil has some words for tech giants like his pal Zuckerman “If you proletarianize the young people don’t be surprised if they eventually become communist.”
Magic wands don’t dissolve disgruntlement. It’s an old expression. Maybe you missed it.
The opening movement of Tchai's First Symphony must have given everybody the idea that this young 26-year-old composer had it.
A lot of people are making a lot of money from their apps which are based on Americans penchant for laziness. A lot of it revolves around people now paying for things which they in the past could do for themselves.
Pardons encourage people to do a criminal or anti-ethical cultural act without fear of repercussions.
Here’s a potential dilemma for the Feds. Trump sends out $2k to Americans from the billions in Tariff revenue. But if the SC denies Trump the power to authorize the tariffs, he would have to find money elsewhere to repay the treasury for the citizen dole and to the foreign countries who paid the tariffs. Double Yikes.
My wife said she wants to pursue her dream of learning to drive a steamroller. I said I’m not going to stand in her way.
BTW, Perter Ilyich who is known for his rousing 1812 Overture, also wrote many tender love songs.
I use BBC news regularly because I’ve always felt it was pretty neutral reporting US news and for sure gave me early insightful looks at global happenings. But yesterday the two top BBC officials resigned for malicious editing of Trump interview tapes to imply his encouraging Violence against US Capital on Jan 6. And today right on cue Trump lawyers threatened a $1 Billion lawsuit if the august News Agency doesn't issue a pure and complete retraction by this Friday.
Spell check wouldn’t be very good at Wordle.
Well, at least Trump won’t try to pardon former French Prez Sarkozy, He just got out of Jail.
I have an inferiority complex. Unfortunately it is not a very good one.
As of this week this week, US universities have paid out $185 Million to pay off contracts of loser coaches. That would pay for 4,625 $40,000 scholarships for students. Funny, I thought colleges got into big money sports to help the Universities meet academic goals’ funding. But now the tons of dough available from TV contracts and ticket sales is going to players and coaches, and crazy travel schedules as eastern leagues invited far west colleges join in the money grabbing parade.
The Answer:
Borrow money from a lot of friends beforehand.’
See you all tomorrow. It's going to be cold here and in the midwest. There go the zinnias.
