No jobs, but clean air.

Today's Tids Issue 2,686
Opening Stuff:
Isn't amazing how little time seemed to have passed by, when old friends meet once again.

A new medical report just came out saying that NFL Football player are more like to get ALS -- "Lou Gehrig Disease". Of course, the great scoffer that I am, I looked at the headline thinking "just another scare tactic from our soul guardians and moved on to the real world, the comics. That was then. Over the weekend I was reading about the recent history of my college football team and came across these horrifying stats. In 15 years 3 players from the school had died from the disease. Now, I'm looking twice at the medical report, a scoffer no more. Well sorta.

One thing you'll never play in school is hooky!

The Question:
Ok, easy Q Day. 1. name Five Oceans. 2. Name Five continents. Bonus: What is the percentage of wilderness in Africa versus North America.

The Headlines:
--Chavez Wins Six More Years Convincingly; Joe Kennedy II Smiling.
--US Focuses On Giant China Technology Company Huawei; Raise National Security Concerns.
--Wealth gap Between congress And Average American Widens; During Recession Cingress Rises 5% While Citizens Fall 39%!

Time to open the TCD (Tired Cliche Dumpster) for "The Cover-up is often worse than the crime". God help us all. Please.

A sign on Pennsylvania I-78 says: "If you have suggestions about the roads. Twitter us". Say what? Careening off the highway at 140 characters a minute.

Also, why not tell it like it is and designate the right lanes of highways "Cell Phone lanes".

Providence RI is starting to really like the flexibility that goes along with teaching in Charter schools. They like idea of local school directed curricular being developed closer to the students to meet the actual needs of students as opposed to orders on high which can only create waste and misdirection. Which generally satisfy the needs of theoretical education. It sounds like a good dose of common sense to me.

Isn't interesting how after the debates the campaign goes back into "0ut-of-sight-out-of-mind" mode. Except of course in the big number states and swing states.

There easily could have been many more jobs today if environmental edicts, unthinking demands upon corporate resources, hadn't sucked some companies dry. There are four reasons that manufacturing in the US is fading from it's one former gigantic self: 1. The continuing demands by Unions in the face of increasing foreign competition. 2. The arrogance and/or stupidity of some management who failed to see/or accept the onrushing tide. 3. The comglomerization of companies in the 60's and resultant demand for quarterly profitability versus spending  for long term evolution. 4. Government mandated expenses that force companies to choose between product development and stockholder distributions. Duh.

GM sells more cars in China than in the US. So while some may paint this humongous country as the bad guys, it's still one helluva market!

What everybody knows, but isn't talking about: The equalization of world economies will necessarily reduce wages in the US.

The Answer:
1. The Oceans are Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Antarctic (Or Southern) and Arctic. 2. The Continents are North America, South America, Africa, Antarctica, Australia and Oceana, Asia and Europe. Frankly I have always thought that it was a stretch to call Europe a continent apart from the Euro-Asian land mass. I won't bring that up until they sole the Euro problem. Bonus: the North American Wilderness is larger -- 38% to Africa's 28%. It's always good to remember geography 101.

Think green.
