Today's Tids Issue

For a Little Faith:
Let’s
say you are not religious, but you are looking out to
anywhere and seeing millions feeling pure love from an infant, a child symbolic
of giving everybody in humanity a second chance. Why can’t you see the goodness
even if you can’t or don’t want to believe? Why is there an immediate impulse
among some to reject something that has so much promise to unite? Why can’t the
angry step back for a moment and feel such a beautiful peace. To this old soul,
Christmas is the gift. And I’m willing to share it without reservation to all. Take
it, I’m giving it to you, no strings.
Amazon,
LL Bean, Helley-Hanson and many others have been sending me
daily gift opportunity reminders. I’m thinking now I should get started.
Duh
headline of the week: “Four Rhode Island Electors vote for Clinton.”
By
the way, you should check “Spam” or “Junk” for the Tids if
you find from time to time it hasn’t arrived. The Tids…”Junk”! Aarrrrgh!
As
football fans focus intently on the final two weeks
of the regular season where everything about post season is on the line, here’s
the latest “Power Rankings” for the top twelve teams. #1 is the Patriots followed
by Cowboys, Raiders, Giants, Chiefs, Steelers, Falcons, Packers, Seahawks,
Dolphins, Titans and Lions. Twelve teams make the Playoffs, butb it isn’t
necessarily those 12. Five teams outside the top twelve in Power rankings, Texans,
Ravens, Bucs, Broncs and Colts still are very much in the running and at least one
of those will be in it. It’s the best time of year to be a fan.
It’s
no coincidence that desserts is stressed spelled backwards.
The
Question:
What were the first names of the two Grimm Brothers?
Name their first stories. Bonus:
Quick – name the two stars and director of “It’s a Wonderful Life”? Extra Bonus: They have released the top
volunteering states by per capita volunteers in the peace corps.

Coastal
states like Rhode Island are becoming worried about how much
of government largess they will receive from the man in the Oval Office who
they rejected and demeaned.
I
look at these dogs prancing around in colorful sweaters
and think, hey, they have fur, why do they need wool?
The
difference between a snowman and a snowwoman is snowballs.
Warning:
You are about to enter the Political Corner – The spirit of Christmas may be
compromised:
I hate to resort to politics during this beautiful
week of love before Christmas, but itb is part of today’s life. Why do weeping democrats
continue to send out their grief by describing the incredulity of the Trump election
through the eyes of their six-year-old children! Have you noticed that phenomena -- how many six-year
old’s are devastated by an election? I feel bad for the all of those kids who
must have been pummeled by pro Hill moms. Wouldn’t be better to dream of sugar
plum fairies? --Oh yeah, yesterday, on the anniversary of His impeachment, Bill
Clinton came out to blame his beloved’s loss on angry white males. I thought
Clinton was smarter than that. Note for the record, he also blamed Comey, who might
also fall into the demographic of angry white males.
Relationships
are
a lot like algebra: Have you ever looked at your x and wondered y?
Yesterday
I stupidly implied in reference to those displaced in Syria,
that it is only “The lefty in me is caring…”. What’s in me as a person, is
caring – left, right or center. Feelings aren’t assigned by political affiliation,
although many on the left think they are. I should have said the human in me feels
all of the time for our fellow humans.
Webster
named their top “Looked Up” word for this year. Number one was
“Surreal” which peaked right After Trump beat Hillary.. Also high on the list
was “Deplorable”. After the DeCaprio movie, the searches were high for “Revenant”.
But, one of the most active and strangest searches that confounded the experts
was “Bigly”, for which Webster had no answer. Finally linguists determined it
was what listeners thought they were hearing when Trump said so often, “Big
League”.
The
Answer:
The Brothers Grimm were Jacob and Wilhelm. Published
in 1812, The title of their first volume of 66 stories was “Kinder und
Hausmarchen” or “Children’s and Household Tales”. They published many volumes containing
over 300 tales. In the first volume we found Snow White, Cinderella, Rumpelstiltskin,
Rapunzel and the doings of Hansel and Grethel. Bonus: I would imagine that somehow with all of the repeated showings
of It’s a wonderful Life” that director Frank Capra and stars James Stewart and
Donna Reed are firmly embedded somewhere in t=your brains. Extra Bonus: Tops on the Per capita Peace Corps Volunteer list is Vermont,
followed by DC, Montana, Washington, Minnesota, Alaska, Maryland and five tied –
Virginia, Rhode Island, Colorado, Oregon and Maine. The top state in pure
numbers of Volunteers is California. Per capita is a great way to measure the contributions
of states against each other. It is a little like the logic behind the
Electoral College.
This
was not a terribly meaty Tids, to me. It may end up
in Junk mail!
See
you all tomorrow.
