Today's Tids Issue

For Giving:
In
mornings around this time of year, I find myself stopping
and staring at a little happy, Christmas elf nestled in the season greenery. It
just makes me smile. How great is that.
There
are millions in America who have little for their children
at Christmas, but find that tens of thousands working in charitable groups around
USA towns facilitate the generosity of citizens in their behalf. The gift in
return for hard work is the joy on faces of parents, the laughter of children; the
grateful tears in eyes, and the hugs of thanks.
So,
the newspapers and internet news sites headline last night’s Jones victory in Alabama as, or similar
to, “Dems send ominous warning To Republican Congress.” I guess that means that
if Repubs insist in nominating alleged sexual predators to run, they will rapidly
assume the minority. The media has become a predictable joke.
The
Question:
Christopher Plummer has been touted for his latest
role where he replaced Spacey in in the nearly completed movie, “All the Money
In the World”. Name four other Plummer films of note. Bonus: As ground breaking and as respected as Shakespeare was and
is, some of his plays were better than others. How would you rank his plays from
best to worse?
The

I’m
thinking that the new question is: Who hasn’t been accused
of sexual misconduct.
The
reality beyond those glowing news reports is that pot in
Colorado is not what it is cracked up to be. The sales are not producing tax income
to match the added cost for increased police, counseling and rehabilitation resources;
teachers are becoming fed up with kids who are high on hard-to-control edibles.
Actually, what is happening there is just about what the anti-pot folks suggested
– Getting high may not affect your lungs like tobacco, but a mind is a terrible
thing to waste. A mindless society is the biggest problem of all.
As
hard as we try for altruism, human traits keep getting in the
way. But, I’m working at it.
The
Hong Kong billionaires no longer have to go to Las Vegas
to gamble. They can just stay home and invest in Bitcoin futures.
Another
thing that annoys me about the new tech world is unwanted
intrusions like, “Your Google assistant is here to help you.”
I
could never feel comfortable at rock concert sing-alongs,
because I never pay attention to the words.
In
case you haven’t been told yet, President Emmanuel Macron
of France is officially your new moral compass.
Speaking
of self-appointed arbiters of life styles, there are none who
bother me more than pretentious food critics.
The
biggest news coming out of the Moore defeat is that it could
signal an end to Bannon’s disruptions of Republican campaigns. At least, if Repubs
had brains it could.
Business
today is all about leveraging a rapidly growing world
population.
The
Answer:
You must remember Plummer as the very strict Captain
Van Trapp who found a happy life again when Maria walked into his life. Others
of note are the Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus, The Fall of the Roman Empire, Jesus
Of Nazareth, The Scarlet and the Black, The Return of the Less Scarlet (Pink)
Panther, Beautiful Mind, Insider, Inside Man and Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Bonus: Without question among several lists,
Hamlet is always #1. After that there is some disagreement in the order, but As
You Like It, King Lear, Macbeth, Othello, The Tempest, Much Ado About Nothing,
Merchant of Venice and Julius Caesar are generally in the top ten. Midsummer Nights’
Dream, Romeo & Juliet, Richard II, Henry IV (Part 1) and Winter’s Tale pop
up from list to list. Most common at the bottom in lists of 38 plays are two Gentlemen
form Verona, Taming of the Shrew, Pericles and Merry Wives of Windsor.
I’m
thinking that I’ll be ending the Tids during the next
couple of days with a few of my favorite tunes. It’s a good way to clear out the
daily crap. Sing it out and feel the rapture.
