“Firestorm” headlines are much ado overreactions
about something that used to be nothing.
Much
of the adagio that is the first movement of Sibelius
7th Symphony feels like serene coastal inlets and cold, soothing
seas; barren hillsides caressing loving towns; people smiling, nodding to
friends strolling quietly by.
There
are lots of really good banks around the USA. So,
why would anybody really even need to consider Wells-Fargo at all? Oh yeah, this
bank of scandals has just admitted to have forced over 625 poor homeowners to
lose their homes due to their misapplication of mortgage modification software.
BTW, there are several concurrent federal investigations occurring at the bank
that keep on surprising.
A
could friend and ardent University of Michigan
sports supporter writes with glee to tell us that he hears rumors of an Urban
Renewal for Columbus Ohio.
For
three years now, one of my 2 or 3 my favorite shows have
been Fargo. So, it is really good news to hear that the quirkiness will return to
mystify and terrify with Chris Rock as the star.
It
is becoming more apparent that one of the problems facing businesses
in tourist areas is the high cost of rental properties for necessary service employees.
Finding good seasonal help has always been difficult. But, now find help at a reasonably
priced place to live is making find help impossible. Ironically, this is the
help needed to serve in many capacities an exploding barrage of tourist who are
using AirBNB to find vacation places. This the same AirBNB that is inspiring people
to over pay for 2nd homes with the hope of making big bucks off of
high priced short-term rentals. So, what
happens when the people stop coming because there is no service, and rentals have
become too high even for short term. Maybe Wells-Fargo has a plan to

The
worst piece of news today is the reported very high 2.9%
increase in the consumer price index for the year ending in June. Will this be
the proverbial straw that weighs down the economy? Can you still say straw in
print? Hey folks, economics still works despite the hype. When prices increase,
people slow down on purchases. Or, the over burden their credit cards. Neither
is good for sustaining an economy.
Bernie
Sanders said that if ObamaCare is repealed, 23
Million Americas would be without healthcare. Yet, it wasn’t repealed and only
8.8 Million signed up.
I
may be Republican… Male… White Anglo Saxon… Christian,
but mainly I’m a Red Sox fan in the summer, Patriots fan in the fall and Bruins/Celtics
fan in the winter. You know, there are priorities in this world that really
count.
I
like Vivaldi. But I have to admit that I find him a
little repetitive. I have yet to get through my 3 CD set of concerti.
Nothing
is new under the sun, Department:
In 1790 George Washington authorized the first US
Coast Guard operation to “enforce trade and tariff laws.”
The
WSJ says that for American book readers today, “literary quality is not that important”. So
maybe it’s time to resurrect my cheesy novels and find an agent.
A
reader sends in this note, “Isn’t it weird that in America,
our flag and our culture offend so many people, but our benefits don’t?”
I
read a lot of editors to the editor in various newspapers.
Most of them take the time to pen political opinions typically chastising the
other side for not believing in exactly what they believe. In other words, I
don’t believe your truths because they aren’t my truths. You gotta figure there’s
a middle ground somewhere.
Just
a day or so ago, one such letter criticized a Book Store
for allowing Sean Spicer to hold a book signing, basically saying that Spicer’s
Freedom of Speech isn’t as legitimized as that of the letter writer and his
associates. Talk about building The Wall in the USA. All you have to do is look
at political discourse echo back off of the granite barriers of divide. We only
hear what we’re telling ourselves. The left wants open conversational borders
except for right sided ideas that may drift in.
I
remember when my social status goal in life was to be able
to afford a classic Royal Barry Wills Cape Cod house.
We
really need some rain here in the southeast part of New
England.
Dems
say they don’t want foreigners meddling our elections, but
they seem to be ok with allowing Illegal aliens to vote.
The
real toothpaste out of the tube quandary in America is the loss
of the real definition of Republican and Democrat. Activist political operatives
have successfully requalified people as either conservative or libers, with
only the extreme labels of each. I believe that people are made of differing
amounts of these extreme qualities. Often, the party differences were about tiring
to achieve the same goals tough differing means. But, today. It is the gals
that are attacked.
I’m
surprised I don’t hear more people raving about Saint Sans
First Piano Concerto.
I’m
always amazed at how I can use my finger tip to place a small
curser in exactly the right tiny place in a sentence on a small phone screen.
The
new world of communications makes me wary. Like when choosing
a happy face emogee for responding – I always have a feeling that the face may
have a deeper meaning different than what it looks like to me on the surface. The
new world is discomfiting. Or maybe I’ve been cursed.

Answer:
Schwemer, Goodman and Chaney were the three Freedom
Riders who were murdered in 1964 and found buried in levee in Philadelphia
Miss. It was found thet the KKK and Philadelphia MS police were involved in the
incident. 41 years later a lone man, Ray Killem, was convicted on three counts
of manslaughter, and sentenced to 60 years. He died in prison last January. Bonus: Arthur Bremer was the man who
attempted to Assassinate Alabama Governor and Presidential candidate George
Wallace. Extra Bonus: Harold Arlin
of Westinghouse Electric owned Pittsburgh’s KDKA radio announced the first ever
major league baseball game in 1921, where the Pirates Beat the Phillies 8-5. BTW,
after that broadcast and others, Arlin, a Westinghouse engineer turned
announcer became known throughout the world as the Voice of America in the early
days of radio and short wave. He interviewed many celebs including, Lillian
Gish, Will Rogers, Babe Ruth and William Jennings Bryan. After his meteoric rise
from engineer to international personality, he abruptly retired in 1925, and
went back to being what he liked best – being an engineer.
The
USA has survived the shouting of the past, and we will
do it again. I’m just going to take it easy and ride the Red Sox wave.
