Today's Tids Issue 5,930
Despite the rain:
How about that, we made it through Halloween, and we are into November the wonderful month that ends with a great big thankyou and salutes all our veterans in-between. By th end of cool down month he NFL will have played three quarters of their games, and I suggest all playoff spots will still be open in this topsy turvy year. And Christmas present buying angst will have grasped a nation. They say there are some big elections tomorrow that will determine how the 2026 Mid Term elections go. But these are not normal times except for one thing, we rake leaves in November and dream of the days when we would sit around a fire watching them burn away. Perhaps with glass of warming liquid in our hand. There’s something comfortable about November. Maybe it's because it feels a little less consumerish than December and October. Oh wait, was that a Christmas carol I heard yesterday?
Somedays I feel like a sluggish computer, but I realize I don't have a restart button.
Just to wrap up the Halloween humor, a reader and former restaurant exec sent me this note: “In my restaurant I came to realize that ghosts prefer to sit in Boooooths.” And I also found that Halloween is basically people becoming somebody they are not and being rewarded for it.
The Question:
All the money is not in AI. People still need stuff, and yesterday Kimberly Clark the giant consumer goods company bought the Tylenol company Kenvue for $48 Billion in cash and stock. What are other popular product brands does Kenvue own?

I was in the supermarket the other day and notices a couple of tomahawk steaks in the meat display. I'm thinking, that looks unwieldy, too big for a plate and also wondered what percentage of the chop weight is in bone. Well, that weight becomes 25-30% of the total cost. That's a lot of extra dough for little that counts. Despite supporters offering as a reason justifyng the oversized portion is tenderness in a ribeye that is almost always tender without it, they sheepishly admit that it is for looks and power mainly.
I was in the coffee aisle yesterday trying to find a decent coffee at a reasonable price – my new pastime. I overheard to two 20-30 somethings saying as they looked at the prices of single serve coffee pods (K-Cups): “I hear you can buy coffee you can spoon out yourself.” That is the absolute truth.
A good reader also wrote about a conversation he heard at the Dollar Store. Two women talking as they left: I can't get over the high pics”. Everthing is relative.
Remember when a thousand dollars was a lot of money. Remember when you stopped short to stoop and pick up a dime. Remember how excited you got when you found a bottle you could return for a whole nickel?
That was one hell of a World Series and for sure an amazing World Series ending. I was rooting for Toronto. By the way I grew up as an intense and loyal Dodger fan, but LA is definitely not Brooklyn.
As the shutdown Continues, Trump said yesterday, “I’ll not be extorted.” Hmmm, if anyone knows extortion...
A reader tells me that out in LA on Halloween Night the masked marauders were saying, “Trick or food stamps.
I have a new policy. I don't react to what Trump says. I just wait to see what he actually does. Unless of course I can find humor in what he says.
It appears now that Mamdani will win the NY Mayor race. You know, I listen to him and he reminds me of George Santos, you know the guy who conned his way into congress.
Hey Con.. Congress!
Last night’s NFL game was Seattle, Washington. And I thought, that makes sense.
The Answer:
Other than Tylenol, Kenvue is the company that owns Listerine, Band-Ade, Aveeno, Neutrogena, Johnsson's Baby, Nicorette, Zyrtec, Mylanta, Benadryl, Visine and Neosporin. If that list looks familiar to you, it's because private company Kenvue is the spinoff of the Consumer Healthcare Division of J&J.
It's a gloomy day to start November. Maybe it's time just to relax clear our heads before the holiday explosion begins. Here's a nice piano piece from Renee Michelle.
