Exploring, to find it again:

 

First it was rudeness, and then selfishness, and slowly inconsideration began shrouding the spirit of a once united people; together through thick and thin. Now it is outright lawlessness. I used to watch news clips of mob violence in areas throughout the world -- Middle East, South America, Europe, across the globe and always thought, I’m glad I live in a civilized country where we can find solutions before fighting; because opposite sides always knew that what was good for all was finding agreement in contradictions. I used to feel that way.

 

I used to think poetry was too austere and often too complex for my simple mind to understand. But I have earned to see poetry as communications from the heart. That maybe a national poet laureate isn’t such bad idea after all. Maybe we need more lyrics that have people dancing again.

 

Certainly, not more bad puns like: A dung beetle walks into a bar and says, “Is this stool taken?”

 

Maybe not CNN, but there is a chorus of praise last night for the words of good old plain Mike Pence.

In case you haven’t noticed, the golf industry is booming. Is there a better social distancing activity on the planet right now? Hitting ball into the woods is today the ultimate safety first shot. So now I say, that wasn’t a bad shot, it was a sincere attempt to be considerate, protecting my foursome. Dick’s Sporting Goods sales are up 27%, mostly on my replacement gold balls. See, they naked the store after me!

 

When in the past did people come into a restaurant and start yelling at average diners tying to enjoy a meal? Just because they maybe in the wrong pollical party or ideology?

 

Meanwhile Covid 19 is still here, and intrinsic life has changed considerably. As hard as it may be to believe, we probably haven’t felt the full effects of people staying at home not working yet. But we’re trying. We’re giving it the old college try.

Is “Giving it the old college try” still politically correct?

 

You think you are alone in this world and nobody really knows you until you sit at an outside sidewalk restaurant table and people you rarely see pass by, smile, wave and say nice evening, isn’t it?

 

Yes, it is hard to be invisible these days.

Tuesday Weld was a more serious actress than some might remember, She won an A Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Looking for Mr. Goodbar”, and an Emmy for “The Winter of Our Discontent”. She won a Bafta For “Once upon a time in America”. But she may have been best known as fresh new happy face, with a lively personality that lit up TV screens. Tuesday Weld was Brightness.

 

Basically, what I seem to be saying is that we were probably more civilized before the Internet.

What comes naturally:

 

The Repub messages last night were good. They are covering the spectrum, from prison reform to hope for all. I was moved by the former Planned Parenthood director who spoke vividly about the reality of killing children. Unfortunately, that issue isn’t about the truth of humans who will never feel the joys of life, but a political one all about not giving up ground taken in ideological warfare.

 

If you get an email with a subject line, “Knock, Knock”, Don’t open it!  It’s a Jehovah Witness working from home. (From good reader.)

 

I’d be all for changing the national slogan to “Self-DetermiNation”.

 

I still haven’t figured out how I’m supposed to vote. The political arguments are getting in the way of the facts. So, what’s new?

Surprisingly, Facebook only comes in at 48, after Jack Daniels at 45. And Yahoo is down at 80. My fave KFC makes it at 28. The first beer is Heineken at 38.

 

We might get somewhere if listening became more important than bellowing.

Perhaps in the minds of the RNC, the most important aspect of this convention is to put up a rational, understanding face that would bring back Repubs who have drifted away. After all, regardless of everything else, keeping the US Senate is essential.

Not attending the inauguration of a newly elected president. calling conservatives “deplorables”. In fact, I have yet to have seen an act of sincere kindness and wholesome understanding from Joe’s crowd. Calling everybody a racist is kind? Nancy Pelosi Is kind? Chuck Schumer is kind?

Who do people think are the “coolest” actors today? Not necessarily the best, just who is cool.

You may have read that there is quite the divergence between Mutual Funds and Hedge funds stocks particularly when it comes to Faamg. The hedge funds ae cruising with the tech darlings while the Mutual funds are happy with their value objectives. But of interest are the shared names between the two stock ownership behemoths: Adobe, Alexion, Citi, Comcast, Salesforce, Lowes, Mastercard, Service Now and Visa.

 

(Note: Wait! Did I say Faamg instead of the more popular Fang? Yes, I did. The Hedgefunders have traded the “N” in Fang [Netflix] for the ”M” in Faamg [Microsoft].)

Two more woman appear in the top 30 – Angelina Joli at #29 and Kristin Stewart at #29. 4 women in 30. Must be aconspriacy.

 

How do we get beyond a creeping philosophy of finding excuses for failure; not doing things well. Dismissing the intriguing idea of personal responsibility.  How do we get back to self-determination? “Pulling yourself up by your bootstraps.” I guess first we have to define what bootstraps are. Reenergize old basic values. Technology is genius, but human spirit is the essence.
