DC Subterfuge.

Today's Tids Issue 5,023

Deer Me:

The leaves are turning,

Fall winds are churning

And people are yearning

For hot summer’s burning.

That’s just what people do.

Deer mating season has a tinge of romance attached to it, but not when a glassy eyed buck walks aimlessly in front if your car. When you stand looking at the twisted metal of your front end, just think, it is just all about love.

Today’s most aggravating annoyance is having to walk back to your car because you forgot your mask in the glove compartment.

Remember when people used to enjoy eating cake after people blew on it?

The Question:

What is the name of the canal that linked Buffalo and New York City in 1824?

That volcano in the Canary Islands is now like a faucet of lava that just keeps on giving. Maybe it will form a new continent by the time it is climate change funded plumber shows up. The earth has been recreating itself for 4.54 billion years.

The Voice seems better this year. Right now, Ed Sheeran is the overall coach for the singers and last night a trio called “A Girl Named Tom” was breathtaking. They took the rather simple song Wichita Lieman and elevated to classic status. I’ll be rooting for them. Another super singer I noticed above the crowd was Joshua Vacanti -- really got into you. And also, another leader in the clubhouse to watch closely is Wendy Moten. Just wanted you to know that the Tids Music Department is on the scene and ready to bore you all to tears when the live performances begin. But those three will be three to watch. Until we see what emerges tonight.

The Dems of RI have played get the rich for decades, and now wonder why businesses are reluctant to move here. Rhode Island: the Duh State.

If there has ever been an industry that coins money, it is the software-heavy tech businesses. The beauty of it for humans is that this industry costumes smart humans and will pay very well to get the smartest and best. The only problem may be is that one of these super smart humans is working on an AI solution that will replace these smart humans. And then these Tech businesses will coin even more money.

The Virginia election will tell us a lot. Over the years, Terry McAuliffe has always had one of those irritable personalities that chafes me. I’m hoping a lot of people feel the same in combination with the increasingly chafing Biden admin.

Janet Yellen said yesterday that the “Unrealized capital gains tax” now be promoted by the Dems is not a “Wealth Tax”. Yeah, sure.

The Unrealized Capital Gains Tax concept is one scary idea. It may be the scariest of them all, a real Halloween horror show. It would tax the government (IRS) estimated gains in value of your investments, homes, artwork, Ted Williams baseball cards, and anything else that goes up in value. And the clincher is that if goes down you don’t get a dime back for the loss. It is punitive and probably unworkable. Talk w about the establishment of “Little America” in Argentina! (Note: It is said to be only aimed at the billionaire level wealthy. But that’s what they said about the current income tax system when it was first enacted.)

Yes, plenty of people are thinking of schemes like that because there just isn’t enough money to pay for all of the give-away programs.

A prolific reader contributor tells me, “Thanks to Church rules about witnessed miracles, Biden could be named a saint because of all the voters he raised from the dead last November.”

Before becoming Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen had a smidgeon of credibility. She seemed to be a knowledgeable source. Now she just looks like another political hack.

In case you are interested, Japanese Princess Mako who gave up royalty married her college sweetheart. Aaah, love!

The Answer:

It was derided as Clinton’s Ditch, but known then and now as the Eire Canal that brought together the huge northeast state New York. (Huge before the West was won).

Whistle a happy tune and you’ll always be able to get through the muck. Or, hum, if you can’t whistle.

Reading is the equalizer.

Today's Tids Issue 5.022

Containers or Bust:

The Admin continues to push forward on the biggest give-away program-in-the-sky ever, but their eyes should be focused like lasers on the inability of people wanting to pay their way but can’t because the supply chain problem has virtually halted commerce. The Supply chain mess is our biggest national problem at the moment.

Anybody who knows how to read has the same opportunity to know as much as anybody else.

The squabble over the Afghan departure screwup has been successfully squashed in the USA, but life just gets harsher and harsher for the people left in Afghanistan to suffer inequitable persecution the Taliban.

Good news for my addiction, bad news for my stomach: Today is “National Greasy Foods Day”. Dive in, but stock up on Dawn first.

Speaking of life changes, I seem to be spending a lot of time lately on my hands and knees in pretzel like contortions looking for things I think I have dropped under the couch.

The Question:

There are over 50 peaks in the Rocky Mountains over 14,000 feet high. What is the highest peak? Bonus: No, the highest isn’t Pike’s Peak but Pike is the second most visited peak in the world. What is the most visited?

Cartoonist John McPherson gives us this name for a fishing bait shop: “Global Worming”.

My general reluctance to Christmas shopping seems to be working out pretty well this year. No frustrations here over those supply chain woes.

Unless, of course, it destroys the economy and my nest egg along with it.

One way to move rapidly into a socialist state – stop the supply chain so vital to a free enterprise economy and free society.

I used to manage my fashionable look pretty well just by buying new brightly colored ties that took the eye away from my 20- to 40-year-old suits and sports jackets. But now nobody wears ties and I’m beginning to look a bit threadbare.

The headline read: “6 Brazilian men die in a skydiving accident. One observer said, “That is weird! That’s more than a trillion?”

Things that are bad don’t stop happening just because the media gets tired of a story and stops the reporting.

The Answer:

Did you ever hear of Mout Elbert? I hadn’t either, but it is the highest peak in the Rockies. When I worked there one summer in my college days, I was l told it was Long Peak. Pay Elbert it some reverence. Bonus: The most visited peak in the world is Mount Fuji in Japan! Do you think they will remove Pike’s Peak some day because Pike said something bad 175 years ago?

Please don’t make my funeral too early. I’m not really a mourning person.

On that happy note, I’ll close and look forward to seeing you all again tomorrow.

Strategy vs Stubbornness:

Where would civilization be if we only accepted as is? Where would our lives be if we never explored beyond?

The last thing Repubs want as they try to capitalize on Joe B’s blunders and falling ratings to win back Indy voters an moderate fence sitters is to have Trump on a soapbox talking about lost elections. It isn’t about emotion any more. It is about strategy. It is about winning again. It is about tomorrow.

You know the supply chain thing is getting bad when restaurants are offering chicken meals at “Market Price”.

Someone stole the police station’s toilets. They have nothing to go on.

“I think you can make fun of anything except things people can't help. They can't help their race or their sex or their age or illnesses, so you ridicule their pretension or their ego instead. You can ridicule ideas - ideas don't have feelings. You can ridicule an idea that someone holds without hurting them.” -- Ricky Gervais

Rand Paul 1; Anthony Fauci 0. Fauci and Paul brawled during a Senate hearing with omnipresent doctor repeatedly denying Paul’s accusation that the US funded Wuhan Labs research on. Yesterday NIH wrote a letter saying that the US funded the Wuhan “gain-of-function research on bats infected with coronaviruses.” You’d think some intrepid reporter might have worked feverishly to get to the bottom of that exchange between the Senator and the Covid superstar. You; think, if it were a real world.

Some accuse Americans and companies like Moderna as being selfish because they won’t release Covid vax doses or secret, private developmental data to the rest of the world. Yesterday India announced they had reached delivering1Billion doses of Covid vaccines.

After getting used to government handouts for not working it appears a lot of these much-needed workers are refusing to work for real world wages that businesses can afford, in order to provide services and products consumers can afford.

Here’s a weird one: Today is NATIOAL CAPS LOCKS DAY. Who knew?

Climate Change scientists have now found that a changing climate is going to be more responsively for more and more Covid like pandemics, Aha – anything to scare the public into agreeing on higher taxes to fight the rascal climate.

“Sometimes being old is used as an insult, which is bizarre because, if you're lucky, that's literally going to happen to you. It's a strange thing to gloat about: being born recently.” -- Ricky Gervais

In today’s world you are always susceptible of being accused of something and never knowing what it hit you between the eyes with a 2x4.

I guess Anderson Copper had a pretty lame interview with the president yesterday. Or as a regular person observed, “He didn’t ask questions, he gave answers. In an embarrassing segment when the president tried to explain away his inability to get to the explosive southern border, he said, “Well, you don’t see pictures of children in cages laying atop of each other anymore?” Yes, it’s true. Reporters, photographers and drones have been banned from being at the border and in refugee camps. Well, what od you know, no pics of kids.

“I'm a scientist at heart, so I know how important the truth is. However inconvenient, however unattractive, however embarrassing, however shocking, the truth is the truth, and wanting it not to be true doesn't change things.” --Ricky Gervais

The Answer:

Ernest wr0oe The Sun Also Rises, For Whom the Bell Tolls, A Farewell to Arms ad Old Man and the Sea. Bonus: The USA of course is one. Russia was early too, China is there as is Japan and United Kingdom. Those are the big five. The others are Frace, European Space Agency, India, Iran, Israel, Ukraine and North Korea. South Korea is working hard to be next.

Just because the Constitution protects freedom of speech, it doesn’t mean you have to stop thinking.

Have a great Weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
