Today's Tids (written 5/8) Issue #2,593
Opening Stuff:
There are many ways
to find relaxation, but few are better than fishing in or just sitting
by a clear water country stream. Watching the cool waters make their way
though paths centuries old. Just pleasant, undaunting progress, that
mesmerizes, And gurgling sound that soothes the mind.
I watch the Evening National News primarily as a necessary evil between the local news and Wheel of Fortune.
Two words: Will Middlebrooks! What a blast-off for this rookie Red Sox-er. If he keeps it going, what happens when Youk returns? Is a
puzzlement!
The Question:
Double Day! 1. What is the best selling drug (Legal) in history. What were the total sales in it's 15 year run? 2. Name three of Toni Tennille's best known hits.

There seems to be a lot of stories about people losing weight. I never read them.
Well Ya-Ya-Ya...(WYKWIM)...fans,
it appears that the Babe always liked Boston better than NYC after all.
The house that he lived in when while he was playing in the Bronx is
for sale. It's in Sudbury Mass, a great town, and it is a terrific 19th
century colonial home on two acres, which I would buy in a minute if I
had the $1.65 mil.
Hey,
good news for the banking industry, Greece may drop out of the
EuroZone. Now they can print
their own money to pay back the banks. What would it take in barely dry
ink Drachmas to pay back the $266 billion they owe? 457 Zillion
Drachmas? Fortunately, Greece still has a strong shipping fleet to carry
all that paper around the world to the various banks. Wall Street could
use it as confetti if the Ya-Ya-Ya...(WYKWIM)...ever win another World
Series. What a mess.
The "Big East" sports
conference dilemma is actually quite a good representation of the world
in flux around us. We are in the "nothing is sacred" era. What affects
the US is more often to come from without as opposed to within.
Everything is global, and many in the so-called intellectual community,
wish there were no boundaries at. If the US was the Big East, it might
sell Rhode Island to Greece, New Jersey to Italy and Arizona to Peru.
The French election exposes US banks. The ineptitude of the Mexican
government trashes
US immigration Laws and China owns us. So break down national cultures.
Lets just blend, in peace. Boise State versus Providence College!
By the time the
Nightly news broadcasts come on TV, I have all of the news already in
my brain. I just watch to criticize the way "The Heads" report it. They
present lots of opportunities for great sarcasm.
So, finally
Buffet comes out to say that the "Buffet Rule" is not a panacea. He
reminds us all that his original statement about the need for
reevaluating the tax system also included the most important phrase:
"We've got major problems on the expenditure side.". The democrats hate
to hear that from their allies. Government expenditures is the problem.
Government expenditures inflate the costs of everything else, like
health care. And, the states and towns are working on it because
they can't print money.
Falling gas prices may also be an indicator of a slowing economy. People with less money slowing demand through fewer purchases.
The Answer:
1. Lipitor
is the all time seller. This basic "stayin'-alive drug has sold over
$130 billion worth of capsules. And after May 31 you will never see that
name again. but, you will be able to afford it's generic. 2.
Toni Tennile had a lot of hits with The Captain, Hubby Darryl Dragon --
Love will Keep Us Together, Muskrat Love, Do that to Me One More Time,
The Way I want You To Touch Me and Shop Around. Toni was born in a
musical family and had a varied career before the 70's super success. In
fact you will recognize her voice on the Elton John hit "Don't Let the
Sun Go Down on Me" and
Pink Floyd's "The Wall".
Warning: Nourishment from the nightly news programs is declining rapidly. Most of it is just cheap filler. Call Michelle O!
