Today's Tids Issue 3,044
Opening Stuff:
I received a nice
note from a good friend and reader urging me to “keep up the good fight”.
You know the fight, the one that would restore moral integrity as the basis of
our government and society at large; A society that rises to exclude petty
pejorative-ness -- negatively pervasive, needlessly divisive -- generally for
no serious reason at all. Most people of reason think that people of good heart
will again rise to the top and the USA will begin return to something that looks
again like what made us great. But the fight now appears harder than believed.
A survey of millennials, the next generation of influence, shows that they are
less religious, less apt to marry, less patriotic and independent of political
parties. We just have to hope that millions of those who are not “Less” are
stronger than the slacker side.
It’s always good news
when the price of gold drops as it did this morning for the second day…except
for gold owners. But then, we learn that margin debt is at new highs. I always
get nervous when margin debt gets too high. I see yellow blinking lights.
Who Really Determines
Exceptionalism, Department:
I believe there is an underground of talent in this US where
the only difference between them and the mega Celebs is the USA Publicity
Machine. One of my favorite examples is the Sweetback Sisters, a real classic
country and blue grass band. Emily Miller – who just moved to Elkins West
Virginia after marrying her Fiddle Player, Jesse Milne – writes classic songs, plays
the fiddle and the guitar She is joined by her Brooklyn NY born partner Zara
Bode a song writer, guitar player and singer extraordinaire, who sounds more
country than anybody in Nashville. The rest of the band is a new fiddler (New
hubby home washing dishes), bass, electric and steel guitar player and drummer,
who sings great too. The band is better than ever since Emily’s Father-in-law
is one of the country’s most noted folk music experts. She now draws from the
greats around Reynolds County WVa for broader, more intriguing programs. So, I
like Emily and Zara and their band of the moment. Lots of people do. There are
music genius’s everywhere. So, who are the arbiters if exceptionalism? We are. You
me and the rest of the people who enjoy
what they like, and are able to get beyond the noise to find it. Like on a
mountain top in Elkins, West Virginia…or Common Fence Point In RI.
Hey, Patrick Reed,
Top 5 players don’t limp home in big, tense tournaments.
The Question:
One country was the Second to adopt the US style Constitutional
government, side with the USA though every conflict since our beginning and
give us the man who designed West Point. Which country was it, and who was the
man who designed the Military Academy fortress.

When you think about
it, all of the schoolyard bullies seem to be in the Government these days.
I watched that 60 Minutes
segment about the super radio telescope that will be able to show the formation
of stars and planets, thus further explaining the “Big Bang” theory. I always
ask, where did the vast emptiness come from in the first place, and how can it
never end. And, if it does come to an end, what’s on the other side?
Here’s one way to
look at the Russia/USA juxtaposition. Russia is by definition a “former”
socialist country using military intimidation to annex part of another former
socialist country, which is seeking an open, free society. The USA, an open and
free society and Russia’s chief opposition, is transferring money away from its
military response capability to pay for the development of more and more Federal
run social services that seem to be moving the country towards socialism.
Beware of the Social industrial/HHS Complex.
When you see people throwing
away perfectly good smart phones to be current, it’s no wonder we are in an era
of throw-away mates, throw away morals, throw away foundations. Let’s hear it
for the hoarders.
Just when I was
beginning to feel a little like Spring, I look out to see Snow.
The words, “You
are not alone” have never been truer in history. Carrying a smart phone is like
having a blinking forehead enabling you to be followed wherever you go. Small
businesses became industrial empires all based on information freely given by
humans to websites. The only reason Apps are free, is because they make so much
money selling “you” to marketers. Being “connected” means being exposed.
One way to stop
viruses and malware that seems to be emerging from techie’s minds is to put
a password on software downloads. Negative attackers to your computer become a menace
only after downloading software. If you could password protect downloads, you
would first of all see the attack as it occurs, as you would be asked for a
password, and then you could prevent it.
The Conscience:
Chapter 40 continues.
After ten minutes of chit-chat, Jason abruptly
rolled up the plans and sat down, motioning Eliot to do the same. “I think we
may have rushed into this, Eliot.” Wu felt his throat go dry, but his outward expressions
remained comfortable, cool Wu.
“Why do you say
that, Jason.?” He paused. “I think we came out better than we should have, considering
the explosion.”
“That’s exactly
the point, who was behind that explosion and why did it occur. James called,
you know, to tell me that they caught two thugs attempting to do the same at
his Portsmouth RI facility. And our guys have identified the hapless pair as
the same two who conned their way into here. But, the only relationship between
that boatyard and us is that James was here two days earlier. Do you know who
tipped off James? Jeffery.”
Wu now sat up a
little straighter. Do you mean our drunk”. What is Jeffery doing, and what does
he know, thought Eliot.
Jason frowned at that. “I’ve grown to like
Jeffery, and frankly I believe he has done a much better job than we thought he
might. And, Eliot, he is your guy. Maybe he knows more than he has told us.”
Jason looked up at the ceiling, “He must.” He said to nobody. I think you
should call him. Wasn’t he meeting with Sanna today or tomorrow about the
closing for the deal?’ Before Wu could say yes or advise against it, Jason
picked up the phone and started dialing Jeffery’s cell..
He is getting anxious,
Wu thought to himself. He waved to Jason, and whispered “I’ll be right back.”
The Answer:
Poland was the second constitutional country and it is the
only country that has stood with the USA. Thaddeus Kosciuszko through all
conflicts. Did you know that more Polish pilots died protecting Great Britain,
than any other country. And, when Britain held a parade to honor allies, they
excluded Poland…because FDR and Churchill had given the good people there to
Russia. My Poland adviser, used a bit more colorful language when describing
this travesty. But this is a family column.
Insiders say that
when the Ukraine PM visits later this week, President Obama will be singing
– songs like “Crimea River”, “Putin on the Ritz”, “Singin’ in Ukraine”, “Barack
in the USSR” and “Who’ll stop Ukraine”.
Speaking of music, check out the “Sweetback Sisters”:
