Today's Tids Issue 3,125
Opening Stuff:
As I searched for
favorite foods for a 4th of July picnic “Q” below, I could only
think of the best Fried chicken I ever ate made by one of the nicest people I
ever knew, Lillian Wiley Buzzard. After 50 or so years I can still see the
chicken sizzling away on a cast iron griddle atop a charcoal fire grill; contrasted
by a calm little lake with lily pads abloom, lot’s of sunnies below for pan
frying. And around that hot griddle stood a bunch of good people young and old,
each with forks poised, eyes firmly affixed upon the piece of perfect chicken
they would stab. There are great moments you never ever forget.
Personally, I
liked the 4th of July better when the people of the town walked with
families and friends to local school field, had hot dogs and sat and laughed
while kids clasped their hands over their ears during the fireworks, And of
course, all knew exactly why they were there, what we were celebrating. Today’s
extravaganzas have become big media events. More overkill of a comfortable tradition.
The real question for
the promoters of and for the future of soccer is: Were all of those crowds
watching in bars and public spaces enjoying soccer or just the friendship and
booze?
The Question:
What do you think are the Top 10 favorite foods for a 4th
of July Picnic?

One of the most
ardent observers of Tid’s Typos sends this along: “That awkward moment when
you spell a word so wrong that even autocorrect is like, ‘I got nothing man…” BTW,
Autocorrect is one of the major time consuming nuisances of the technology age.
I didn’t like the
world of Bill Ayers when he was a young bomb thrower, and I still don’t as
he pretends to be a statesman.
The “O” Admin is
still playing the “Bush’s Fault” game. Unfortunately after 6 years, it is
apparent that 0-Man and his advisers misread just about every situation that
may have led to a a solution of some sort to former presidency missteps. You
can’t understand or help secure the wild and wooley middle East playing
politics at home. The same could be said about the outrageous behavior at the
US borders where the illegal’s continue to flood in and soak up out freebies –
the Prez if he wanted to halt the influx of all of the potential Den voters
could have nipped it in the bud in his first year at the helm.
Personally,
guards on the border is one thing, but I would have ceased US Taxpayer money going to Mexico and Latin
America until they did something about it. It is not heartless to bring order
to chaos.
It’s Not My Money,
Department:
Did you know that a US Bureau of Labor Statistics report says
that it cost 45% more to employ a government worker than an equivalent private
sector employee. Where’s Paul Revere when you need him.
BTW, Bill Ayers
says he loves revolutions. I doubt if he would love a revolution that would
demand a government act responsibly.
The Answer:
Since I am a meat eater first and always , I was surprised
to see potato salad as number one. 2 is fresh lemonade (more than beer?); 3. Is
pasta salad (Enough with salads
already); 4 – Watermelon (Getting disturbed); 5 is Hot Dogs with the fixin’s;
6. Is potato chips; 7 is red white and blue cake (OR, how about strawberry
shortcake, or strawberries, blueberries over vanilla ice cream?) 8 finally
gives us something edible, ham (Cheese) burgers. 9 is baked beans. And ten is
fried chicken. Now I’m having fun.
What an important day
we have to celebrate this weekend. I felt bad above, bringing up on tis
glorious American day sore points about our President, which is indeed a tough
job. Yet, isn’t the 4th all about breaking away from tyranny. Is a government
that is getting bigger and dominating, intimidating, mandating peoples exactly
what our declarers of Independence had in mind at the time 238 years ago? We haven’t
gone back to Kings, but something seems to be slipping away. Maybe that was why I was so heartened this
week of Supreme Court decisions. They seemed to be saying, “Hey, wait one God Damn
minute! This government is out of control.” Maybe the ideas of the founders are
still working. That is something to celebrate about. BOOM!
