Today's Tids
Opening Stuff:
Get ready for a rash
of October stock collapse reports. The colorful month has been blackened in
the past by some of the most significant downturns, so with the market leveling
off recently at all time highs, the chances for it all to go down is certainly
a possibility. And the short sellers and gold mongers will be grasping the
moment. But, a funny thing happened on the way to the peaks, business got
better. So while we are seeing lower average wages and an increase in the
so-called poor, the US companies are playing very well in the global marketplace,
and many good jobs are being created. It isn’t all local any more. We may make
it to the end of the year.
When you think about
it, there is nothing quite as satisfying a nice Hot Turkey Sandwich
smothered in you-know-what.
You have to wonder
these days if all of these new medical marijuana plants around the
countryside will join in with the annual Fall array of colors on mountainsides.
Or is that psychedelic array just in the minds of those under medication? Smoke
pot and carry your own fall with you.
It was pretty thrilling
last night to hear the 70,000 or so fans along with the US Marine Band in
Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium, belt out the Star spangled Banner.
The Question:
Emma Watson has offered the possibility of a fair and
balanced Feminist. Name the Top 10 most influential feminist books.

Gina Raimondo, candidate
for RI Gov is a smart person, well educated with lots of experience in the real
business world. I believe she’s smart enough to know better than most where the
real and obvious problems lie; the problems that have the state in a consistent
downward swirl. Unfortunately, she has become a politician much too fast and
knows that the real power in the state isn’t with the people, but with the
forces who have promoted mediocrity and an anti-business environment for years.
She would win the governorship in a landslide if she came out and told the
truth, but I guess intimidation here works better than honesty. And,
unfortunately, in all of your states too.
Are weather people
like the May Fly, little bugs that are born, mature, have sex and die within
a period of one day! Have you ever noticed how amazed these wizards of weather
are over a few hot September days? We almost always have a few hot days in late
September. My theory is that weather people are cloned anew each year and have
no historical basis.
With the news about
leaving nearly 10,000 troops in Afghanistan, It appears that the USA has learned
its lesson after leaving Iraq Bare and Naked. There was no question in my mind,
and even in many expert minds, that the Taliban would fill the vacuum within
minutes after the last US soldier stepped aboard a departing plane. It’s just the
way it works in the Middle East and other Muslim dominated countries. If it
wasn’t for the mental congestion from politics, the USA have taken that action
years ago, and in Iraq too.
Now that the Jeter
thing is done, New York headlines will be full of gifts for the new Clinton
Grandchild. That’s just the way it works in the USA.
I think this morning
we are writing Obits for the New England Patriots, a team living in the past
without the past players to implement a tired playbook. KC last night looked
like the new world of football against the leather helmet crowd.
Feminists seemed
always to equate fighting for women’s rights to man hating. Singularly minded
Women’s Rights leaders echoed their dislike for the opposite sex often in their
eloquence about equal rights. You may have heard, though, that Hermione, I mean
Emma Watson, wants to change all that in her new role as the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador
– whatever the hell that is. I think that is nice of Emma, but I would never
want an Equal Rights Amendment. Frankly, I have always felt that women were
pretty damn equal. But, a little magic from Emma may help with the anger in the
world.
Now that the Red Sox
have wrapped up their tribute to the Jeetster, there are rumors they have already
begun a plan to celebrate the retirement of ole’ #34, David Ortiz. There is
talk that the team has already hired 34 virgins to carry his luggage to and
from airports on road trips. Stay tuned.
Do you know that I’m
starting to sound like the NY media, thinking that the sun rises and sets
here, that rest of the world really cares about what happens in my neck of the
woods. I’ll try to behave. Send me interesting accomplishments about your areas
and I’ll write some sarcasm about them.
Politics has become
the cholesterol that clogs the brain arteries of a clear thinking USA. Maybe
we should put the country on Statins – read that State-in charge.
Did you hear that Eve
was a little concerned that there may be a new Apple in the Garden of Eden when
she noticed several hundred computer geeks hiding in the bushes?
Often lost in the over
promotion of big money college sports are the NCAA Ice Hockey happenings.
Fans may be even more rabid for this exciting sport that is growing nicely in
big and small colleges alike. That’s what makes it so pleasing to me, is that
the big muscle guys haven’t yet shoved aside the small guys. The Pre-Season Top
Ten are: Minnesota, North Dakota, Providence College, Boston College, Union College, Colgate, St. Cloud State,
Michigan, Ferris State and Wisconsin. I’m ready to root!
Do you realize that
Boston College, although a university, will always be a college because there
is already a Boston University?
The Answer:
1. Feminist Mystique – Betty Friedan . The Second Sex –
Simone de Beauvoir 3. A Room of One’s Own
– Virginia Woolf 4. The Vagina
Monologues – Eve Ensler %. Sexual
Politics – Kate Millett 6. The Femael Eunuch
– Germaine Greer 7. The Beauty Myth – Naomi
Wolf 8. Their Eyes Were Watching God –
Zora Neale Hurston 9. The Color Purple –
Alice Walker 10. A Vindication of the
Rights Of Women – Mary Wollstonecraft. Personally I’d not like to meet any of
them at a cocktail party. It would be bad for the stability of my heart.
Have you noticed how
the press is jumping aboard the Obama vindication train, saying that he was
inactive on ISIS because he had bad info from the Intelligence community? I
wonder if they’ll go back and investigate the bad info Bush used to as a basis to attack Saddam.
Nice to have some
much needed rain. Run out and enjoy the drops hitting your faces.
