Today's Tids Issue 3,220
Opening Stuff:
President O has
always wanted the USA to be more like Europe. Yesterday the EU European Court
of Justice backed the member states saying they can deny certain payments to
unemployed EU citizens who move to that country just to claim benefits!. Think
about hat for a second – they are denying handouts to citizens playing the freebie
game while we’re giving away hard earned tax dollars to lawbreakers who snuck
into the USA. (Source: BBC) Am I missing something. Oh yeah, the deciding Judge
said that he made his decision because “it made sense” and it seemed logical to
deny such payments. Sense?
Yesterday I started
a conversation that you will be seeing more and more of as Anti-Obamists lump
Net neutrality in =to the “If it’s from “O”,
It’s bad” category. It will be argued by two sides with minimal information until
you actually hope your cable does shut down to give you piece. Here’s another,
and easier to understand view of “Net Neutrality”:
I remember back in
the times just before the .Com bubble burst that it became wise to follow
the most shorted stocks. Today’s Ten most shorted in order from 1-10 are Sirius
XM, Intel, Frontier Communications, Comcast, Micron technology, Blackberry,
Apple, Groupon, Microsoft and MannKind. Jeez – Just when I was thinking getting back on the
Microsoft bandwagon was a good idea.
The Question:
Quick…name 5 women Figure skating Stars who come quickly to
mind. Bonus: One small but
prestigious New England Liberal Arts Colleges is quite proud of its three,
count em’, three Major League Baseball General Managers. Name them and their
teams.

$2 Mil to build a “Bikeway”, while schools are starving for money.
Bicyclists will probably avoid the “Bikeway” to be cool and “free”, just as
they avoid all biking laws now.
Ok, Time for The
Voice: One thing I have noticed is that I have to disregard my own taste in
music to objectively evaluate singers.; tough but necessary. This is a big night
when USA voters will pick 2 from each team and the judges will pick a third giving
us a final 12. For Adam’s team I like Matt McAndrew and Damian. It appears that
they could be in. Mia Pfirman seems weakest with voters, so Taylor Phelan may
be the third. For Blake, I like James David Carter and Jessie Pitts, but think
Craig Wayne Boyd will be a lock as will Reagan James, who I also like. I think
Taylor Brashears is very good, but two have to go. For Gwen, I liked Ricky Manning
and think Taylor John Williams is very talented, but so is Anita Antoinette who
has the personality. I think Ryan Sill will Creep in. Briana Saloz is not my favorite,
but fans seem to like her. Luke Wade is Mr. Personality for Pharrell and a big
fan favorite, but he seems to sing the same song all of the time. Enjoyable to
watch. I believe Elyjuh Rene is the most talented of them all, but ,.mm. .6666my
favorite for Pharrell is Sugar Jones. Danaika Shirey, though is a marvelous singer
and could force Jones out, Jean Kelley is the also ran here. So, tonight is the
big choice show. Will be interesting.
As a homeowner,
there is one thing I never want to discover – a sinkhole. That’s why it’s good
to live in colonial homes that have stood the test of time.
War 101: Beware
of a country president with a large army and failing economy.
You may have noticed
yesterday’s Tids news Item about the new Chinese Stealth fighter, which was
announced to coincide with the arrival of our Prez in China. What I hadn’t
heard yesterday was that the technology for the plane was stolen by the Chinese
hacking into Lockheed-Martin! Gadzooks! Talk about a slap in the face. The
White House continues report on progress being made there on US/China
relations!
Net Neutrality was
looking like a big continuous argument opportunity until the Jonathon Gruber
video went viral and gave everybody a broad discussion platform. Gruber makes
the government look sneakier and worse than we even thought.
Of course, I
haven’t seen the US media discussing the EU court ruling on cutting freebies
for for the eternally idle, and I suspect we won’t have our main stream media
giving much attention to the Gruber thing.
The Answer:
I did this quickly and my first thoughts were Peggy Fleming,
Tenly Albright and Tonya Harding. See, I couldn’t even get to five, including Tonya’s
victim Nacy Kerrigan. Some otters I should have known were Katarina Witt,
Dorothy Hammil, Michelle Kwan, Carol Heiss, Oxana Baiul, ara Lipinski, Kristi
Yamaguchi and of course the first skater I ever heard of, Sonja Hennie. Bonus: Amherst, one of the finest
colleges in the land, boasts three MLB GM’s. Dan Duquette was just named
Executive of the year for transforming Baltimore. Why can’t the Red sox get GM’s
like that? The other two are ben Charington of the Sox and Neal Huntington Of
the Pittsburgh Pirates. Oh, Duquette giit his start from Harry former Milwaukee Brewers GM Harry Dalton,
another Amherst Alum. Must be something in the beer there. But, more likely the
influence of a great long tome baseball coach therer – Bill Thurston.
The way things are going
in these times it won’t be long until the greeting card of choice will be , “Merry,
Whatever!” or, is merry too religious.
Whistle a happy
carol!
