For stepping back and reflecting:
There
aren’t many things I like better than shoveling snow.
So, I can’t express enough how much I liked the snowstorm we had over the weekend.
To
globalize or not to globalize. That is the question.
It is the question that is dividing countries across the world, except for
countries where the opinions of the citizenry are stifled by tyrants and
assorted communists. There is no question that we all are in a global economy,
regardless of what we may want for our own patriotic satisfaction. The problem for
me about globalization is on the other side of the coin – politicians trying to
build a global super governments overtime, generally along the lines of
socialist redistribution precepts. So, that is the question – it doesn’t make
economic sense to retreat from the broadest markets and productive sources
base, but it is very undesirable to compromise the principles of a country to
get along in a detached government monster.
Just
37 cents. That’s all that was needed on Friday for the DOW to
reach 20K. Just 37 cents, Some people just have trouble making decisions when
success is near.
Remember
that the road of life is littered with flat squirrels who
couldn’t make a decision.
I
thought the Golden Globes were pretty good last night
with actors, producers, directors et. al. and other accepting awards with
human, realistic thank-yous. They actually made Hollywood look reasonable for a
change. Even Billy-Bob was and sane and restrained in a quirky sort of way. I
was happy to see La La Land do well, and also The Crown for TV drama. Ryan
Gosling‘s acceptance was adult and heartfelt. Emma Stone gained me as a fan
beyond her talent with her family praise monologue. And the humor highlight of
the night was Kristin Wiig and Steve Caril in their presenter shtick! I’m still
smiling. Actually, all in all was a comfortable night of fast paced awards and
good nature, until the “Queen” got up to receive the DeMille award for her vast
array of excellent acting. She brought us back to the ugliness of a hateful
campaign, reminding us in a twinkling of why it will be so hard to unite as a nation.
Instead of taking the humble route and just thanking a lot of people for a great
honor, she decided to fan the flames, often with obtuse exaggerations.
The
last thing a man ever wants to say is, “I can’t
find it”… because you know she will.
The
Question:
Often an email will show up with the letter “J” just
sitting there for no apparent reason. What does it mean? Bonus: At what level, do you think the DOW was at 30 years ago
today in 1987?

To
me there is just something entirely appropriate when the RI
congressional 4 start talking about “Hack”ing. If you get my drift.
Most critics make
headlines
by piling up negatives, and piling on. In fact, when Apple first introduced
IPhone, the critics in the industry spent most of their days looking for things
that wouldn’t or couldn’t possibly work. They deemed it a failure! So, think
about that the next time you are barraged by doom and gloom.
For
the most part, the Weekend NFL Wildcard games didn’t
look like the very best in professional football.
Because
of the storm, our mailman showed up Sunday morning. Do
you think he was getting triple time – double time for Sunday plus another time
for 5 degree weather? His sense of humor was great, and he wasn’t complaining a
smidge.
Speaking
of RI inbred ideologies, the leading Newspaper for the
USSRI had pretty one sided front page “expose” on the Trump admin to be. Now, I
agree that it is really, really hard to like the Trumpster, but giving him and
the new admin a chance is better for America than creating a rift before
anybody knows or has experienced anything. This newspaper residing in a city where
the mayor wants in all of his heart to become a sanctuary retreat, eschewed
reasonable journalism, resorting for the most part to the Democrat talking
points like latest, “Making America Sick again”. There are plenty of Democrats
who join Repubs in the thinking that ACA is deeply flawed, and can be better.
And also, neither side wants to dismiss the positive aspects of the law forced
through the Congress 7 years ago. That includes Trump and Ryan who have
repeatedly said that the good will be saved. Yet this paper continues the negative
harangue, misconstruing facts on several other fronts like immigration and
climate, effectively creating a negative environment oblivious to what has been
clearly stated. Of course, the Union owners of the State are thinking they are
in real trouble because in their minds a vindictive Trump is about to get them.
The ‘journalists” cite Trumperino as being an extreme rightie, yet it is widely
asserted by right leaning people in the USA that he is a near leftie.
Interestingly, the Prez elect did surprisingly well in The USSRI which barely
accepts the fact that there are Repubs living here. And, DT did comparatively well
here for a Repub, for all the reasons that the Paper this morning declared are
negatives about him. Sorry, I just have to release a little steam. Journalists
who should be analyzing information in a non-partisan way just aren’t. It just
keeps on making me mad. I hate being mad. At least I didn’t tweet out my
feelings.
I
usually read the Sunday comics first, so the front page fit
right in!
Ever
since I got organized, I can’t find anything.
I
know a good guy who is continually praised for his work,
but when he has applied for a posted job upgrade during the past two or three
years, he has been told that the job has to go to a minority. Kind of sad that people
just can’t get ahead because of what they do well.
I
think one of the main reasons for all of the animosity over ACA
is because of the way it was pushed through congress in the first place. This
is back-atcha time. And that is a major problem in the USA in the current era --
getting revenge. Getting even is a national impedance that leads to impudence
and functional impotence.
It
felt quite biblical watching yesterday’s NFL game featuring
Eli against Aaron.
The
Answer:
You should like getting a “J” in an email, because
it is a ”Smiley Face”. It has to do with Microsoft “Wingdings”. If your
computer doesn’t have the Wingdings, then the computer defaults to a ”J” which represents
a smiley face in Wingdings. Actually, I often called my sister “J” for Judy,
and she always had a smiling face. Maybe I was ahead of technology! Bonus:
Thirty years ago the Dow hit 2,002, and Wall Street went bonkers! The market
immediately backed off. Wasn’t there a recession in 1987?
If
you love and understand America, then you should probably give Trump and the new Congress
a chance. After all, lest you have forgotten, the US Government was designed to
always come back to the people, always leaving tyrants and severe ideologues along
the sides on the road of life.

And so am I.
