For Hope:
Whether
the naysayers like it or not, this is the day for
all Americans. It is bigger than individual dissatisfactions or wants. It’s
bigger than mere people on various stages. It’s about a country that works.
It’s about system that can move towards compromise for all regardless if humans
are incapable of it. It’s a system that has successfully guided us all through
the effects of turmoil and extreme angst, fear and overwhelming triumph. I’m
proud to be an American when a black man becomes a Presidents. I am proud to be
an American when those voices not heard, are.
A
large percentage of today’s news headlines are opinions.
It
is interesting to see that almost 100% of drivers on two lane roads
stay in their own lane for fear of being killed if they were to move over and
drive the wrong way in the other. Pretty simple logic, I’d say. Interestingly
also, there are lanes that can guide us through life, like the ten commandments
or sensible, rational laws. Do to kill. Do not steal. Do not lie. Do not cross
the lane into oncoming traffic.
The
Question:
In what year, do you think the English
Representative parliament began.

There’s
no truth to the rumor that Baron Trump, apparently not seen at
the festivities, is in fact up in NYC walking out of class with his protesting
classmates.
Well, despite the
fact that I have led the NFL post-season prediction columns with the same words,
“This is the best football weekend of the year,” this weekend probably is. It
certainly is always better than the Superbowl, and perhaps even more meaningful.
We have four good teams all with very good QBs – Atlanta’s Ryan who was the
best Stats QB for 2016 and the other three all destined for the Hall of Fame – Roethlisberger
of Pitt, Rogers of GB and Brady of the lovable Pats. So, who is going to win. I
have to tell you that last week I saw something in Atlanta’s “D” I hadn’t
thought existed – it was good, and aggressive. Aaron Rogers is the true darlings
of the media, and he has proven himself to be a winner. He is one of those guys
who comes within inches of great plays being not so hot. Is it skill or luck?
Well, it is definite skill and a strong arm and agile mind. But, I think he
will miss by inches just once too often Sunday and The Falcons will surprise us
all. I fear Pittsburgh – there’s just something about them. Houston, though may
have had a better defense than them, and I think the Pat’s “D” is way better
than I think it is. Brady is mad. Roethlisberger has not played well away from
the Steel City. I’m going with the Pats and I am really nervous. But then, I am
an extreme homer. So take it for what it is worth. Last week – 2-2.
My
guess is that 0-Man will either become the National
Agitator Laureate, or seek out a leading positon with International Leftists.
In
case you have missed it, the hottest new Golf Ball is the
“Kirkland”. Yes, that is the brand name for Costco, and they are into golf balls
“Big League”. They have packaged it so well that they fly off the shelves.
Currently, in fact they have been out of them for two months. The reason for
the success: Test labs are saying it performs like a Pro V1, and it costs
$29.95 for two dozen! Yikes! Or should I exclaim, Fire!
There
is something about Annette Benning that has always
irritated me. She possesses a high cringe factor.
I
see where “O” just released 350 “Non-Violent” drug
related convicts from their sentences. Personally, considering the misery of
the addicts, I don’t believe any drug purveyors are “Non-Violent”. How come
kindness to thugs always seems to overlook the victims.
There
is a lot of truth to the rumor that the Clinton
Foundation is closing down the Clinton Global Initiative, firing 22 employees.
The reason: With the loss by Hillary, foreign contributions totally dried up.
So maybe all of the Clinton cash was a form of a bribe after all.
It
appears according to many reliable sources that the NEA
is behind this movement to have kids walk out of class to protest Trump. You
have to figure that a lot of the anger, no matter how they piston it for Public
relations purposes, is about the loss of money. People in the arts, education
and social services industries have a lot to fear, at least based on some
rumors floating around DC. When you clear away the fog, everything is generally
about funding. Yet, it is sad that the NEA will use children for their cause,
essentially asking them to walk picket lines. Judging the way the USA comes up in
international education success polls, there may well be a need for a change in
the way kids are taught.
What
do you call 68 democrats choosing not to participate in
Government? A good start.
(I
have been asked by some to reproduce several of the key
episodes from the Novel, The Parking Lot. This will help some get a feeling for
the flavor of the novel and the theme. I will begin that next week.)
The
Parking Lot: Chapter 72 continues…
Martha sat
slowly, her eyes squinty as she took in this new serious father.
He started,
slowly, “You don’t know, but we the Hicks own almost all of the lands that isn’t
the coastal towns. For many years your ancestors accoupled this land that you
are familiar with, first as authorized by the Plymouth Colony and then later by
collaborating with Joseph of the Wampanoag’s. Joseph and your grandfather’s relationship
was deeper than just that of being in-laws. You grandfather saved many of the tribespeople’s
lives during the King Phillip wars. Your mother was a princess there, as you
know, and you possess many of her most wonderful traits.
Richard
looked away for a moment and sucked in some air. Martha thought she saw tears
forming. She reached over and touched his hand.
That snapped
him out of yet another reverie. He shook his head. “All of the farmers you see
for miles are framing on our land. Your grandfather and I worked with all of the
people here to arrange a joint usership, but we retain ownership. This all came
about after we had good talks with the coastal people months after the death of
their rather tyrannical leader known as “Big “ Howland.” Richard looked at is daughter
and decided it wasn’t time to tell her of her mother’s involvement in the passing
of Big. Before that, we had many battels with Big over access to the docks.”
“ I have all
of the documents for the land signed by all of the farming families including your
in-laws. Each document has a seal at the bottom, and I am in possession of that
sealing instrument. I am going to pass that on to you, and you will be in control,
having the authority to do what you feel his best for those lands. Perhaps you’ll
do something now, or pass it onto one of your children. Everything in the
future will be up to you.” He saw her face draining of color. But, he knows how
good she is.
Martha
sagged in her chair. Nearing total shock, What is he saying, she said to
herself. Her baring was being assaulted on many
fronts. She was thinking that she was not capable of this it was too much
for her. She was too involved with all of the people. But she knew that it
could only be her.
Richard let
her sit quietly to absorb it all. “Feeling a little overwhelmed?” He smiled
finally. She stared at him blankly.
“But first,” he
continued, you and I have to ride over to your house and take care of those
kids. Now she sat up,, with eyes a little clearer. She ran her hand through her
hair. But still said nothing.

Between the Lines Movie Reviews:
--Not surprisingly, the critics like 20th
Century Women. Audiences also give good marks to this film about a single
mother and boardinghouse landlord who along with three younger tenants – a punk
artist photog, a “mellow” handyman and a
women best friend of the son – join together to raise her son. He turns out to
become a feminist. There are some LSD moments and drifting from drugs as they
scour LA to find the real meaning of life. Yikes.
--Split is great platform for an actor, in this case
James McAvoy. You see James has 23 personalities and this is more than a battle
to free three young woman kidnapped by “one” of “Him”. It is battle to get
inside the many faces of the man. A srious look at psychological challenges.
--Founder starring Michael Keaton, who is quite
good, is the life story of McDonalds founder Ray Kroc. The critics gave it
better than average grades, saying the audiences will find I satisfying and
entertaining.
The
Answer:
Much of what America has turned out to be came from
the English. England began their first steps towards democracy in 1265.
Happy
new Presidency, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y: Be prepared for who
knows what.
Next
week I may begin the romantic countdown to Valentine’s day, and
shovel the angst aside.
