For Accepting Differences (Or For at Least Trying)
Reclamation:
A process used by clams to be reincarnated. (Thanks to one of our brightest and
punniest readers.)
The
last line from a newspaperman character in the Movie,
The Bobby Jones Story. “Money…it’s going to ruin sports.” I think that is being
proven as coming true. For one thing, consider 6-6 teams in meaningless Bowl
Games. Think of “D” level College football teams being paid substantially to
get clobbered by “A” level teams. Think of the World Baseball Tournament that
takes place at the beginning of Spring training – and the potential of injury
to favorite players. Think of the proliferation college basketball games on TV.
Think of kids under ten beginning their quest for money to pay for college, and
the cost to parents to play in what were once sandlot or local courts pick-up
games. Think of this year’s fired football coaches being paid $64 Million not
to coach. Can you spell A-m-a-t-e-u-r. I don’t think it exists.
You
knew it was big storm in RI yesterday when 23 Dunkin’ Donuts
closed. Talk about population depression syndrome.
There
was no question at the end of 2016 that the biggest contributor
ever to the division in the USA was Barack Obama. Today in a new poll it says
that America now believes Donald Trump is the biggest contributor to division
in the US. It really depends on which disgruntled group is on the sideline.
Although, I still believe that 0-Man drove a wedge between Americans, and that the
election of Trump solidified the drivers of that wedge.
All
of the big tech companies are saying they have been and are
working feverishly to find solutions towards getting the big “Chip” flaw off
their shoulders. I hope they are smart enough to find what the criminals seem
to already know. Later this morning, Intel said they were making excellent progress
in solving the problem.
The
Question:
As you may know, from time to time the Tids editors
ask ”Who are these people: They are celebrities apparently known to idol doters
but unfamiliar to this dinosaur. Who are: Pamela Sue
Martin, Clancy Brown, Suzy Amis, Joe Flanagan and Ricky Paull Golden? Bonus: Yesterday, the biggest single
donor ($36 Million – and bigger than the Koch Brothers) to conservative
politics chose Trump Over Bannon. Who was it?

This
is one weird stock market. Yesterday as you have read the Dow
crossed over the $25K line. What makes that number even more amazing is that
the market did it without the benefit of $1 Trillion from retail investors
still on the sidelines after pulling out of stocks and Mutual Funds. Does that
mean that the market has plenty of potential juice, or have others on the sidelines
like the rapidly increasing retried boomers just scared to death of having
another crash wipe out their savings?
This
weekend begins the road to the Superbowl. here are some tough games
to pick as usual. But, I’m not seeing any teams that may beat the top seeds for
a berth in the big one. Oops, maybe Jax
or Saints. Actually I’ll be rooting for the Bills against Jax. I’m really
behind the loyal, patient fans up in that cold town. But I believe Jax will take
it. I like Mariota of the Titans, but I don’t like the team’s inconsistence.
The Chiefs are coming back together and should win. The Panthers are another of
those teams that baffle me. Who will show up, the good cat or the bad cat? I
think the Saints are on a good road and will win. The Falcons are showing late
season life, but the Rams have been solid all year, Well, mostly. I’m flipping
a coin here and picking the Falcons.
Why
do I think there were some shenanigans surrounding the
Virginia Senate election won by a coin toss?
One
of the biggest national wedge drivers is the sports empire
ESPN. Maybe that’s why their ratings have slipped and people are losing jobs.
Too much politics in what once was a comfortable retreat and still should be a
safe place for escaping BS. should be a comforting pastime. Well now, they are
trying to drive a wedge between the Patriot leadership – Kraft, Belichick and
Brady. Some communications companies like this sports powerhouse opt for
character and societal assassination to get ratings. Others take it slow but
stay positive. I think over time most people get tired of questionable
negativity, and that’s part of ESPN’s problem.
You
may have missed it because it was a late start in Hawaii,
but serious Golf started yesterday. It is a great, competitive tournament and
only includes winners of the previous year’s tournaments. You may still miss it
because it’s a late start in Hawaii.
Hey,
there’s about $1 Billion lying out there just ready
for your taking. Yeah, sure. The Mega Million drawing tonight and the Powerball
tomorrow night could put you on the track to the Forbes Four Hundred.
The
Bannon Book “Fire and Fury” by Michael Wolff could
become the biggest seller in history. And, from what I am hearing it will
probably get rave reviews from Wapo and the Old Grey Lady.
I
didn’t like the idea of building windmills off RI’s shore
and nothing has changed that would make me like seeing Oil wells pumping away
off beautiful Block Island.
My
muscles always feel great the morning after shoveling snow.
Here
are the jobs that will probably be declining in long term employment
or as opportunities: Locomotive Firer, Respiratory Therapy Technicians, Parking
Enforcement Worker, Word Processors and Typists, Watch Repairer, Electric
Equipment Repairer (Cars), Foundry Mold and Coremakers, Pourers and Casters Metals,
Computer Operators and Telephone Operators.

Between the Lines Movie Reviews:
--Molly’s Game about the big Poker game operator
officially opens this week, but I have already reviewed it, and it is on my
list of films to see. I Tonya a black comedy about Tonya Harding is also rolling
out to more screens, and that also has been reviewed here and is on my see list.
--Critics love In Between about three Palestinian
women attempting to balance faith and tradition with their modern lives living
in the heart of Tel Aviv. Critics like it, but me, not so much.
-- Audiences love the high school drama – Blame. Its
about a class outcast (So what’s new) who finds comfort in the characters she
reads about, which happens to amuse a manipulative classmate. But, the drama
coach casts the insecure outcast over the popular manipulator. Obviously, the manipulator
is madder than hell at teh now all-of-a-sudden secure outcast with a new boyfriend,
and she seeks to take out vengeance against the formerly insecure classmate now
on a role in a role. Things go out of control.
The
Answer:
Hartford Conn Native Pamela Sue Martin was best known
for her roles in Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys. Clancy Brown will be remembered by
many for his role as Captain Byron Hadley in Shawshank Redemption. Need a
villain, call Clancy. Suzy Amis, an actress of many character roles turned environmentalist
gained her biggest fame as the founder of “Red Carpet Green Dress” Yes, you
guessed it. It is about wearing sustainable fashions for Oscar carpet
traipsing. Say what? Joe Flanigan is an
actor best known for his role as Major/Lt. Colonel John Sheppard On Stargate
Atlantis. Aren’t you glad I asked? If you like soapies, then you know Ricky
Paull Golden as Dean Frame on Another World, and as stalker Gary Dawson on The
Young and the restless. Sometimes I hit it big with this segment, and other
times it’s a big miss. Its’ always a mystery to me. Bonus:
Super wealthy hedge fund billionaire Robert Mercer’s daughter Rebekah stood up on the side of Trump.
She had always sent lots of money to Breitbart Communications.
Have
a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
