Just minding my own business.

Today's Tids Issue 3,134

Baseball calms:

Ronald Regan said, “Trust but verify.” Sounded like a good plan then, and with the current negotiations in Ukraine, a better plan now. Russia said yesterday we want to build trust so we’re dramatically shutting down attacks on Kiev. But verifications today sow the Russians actually stepping up bombardment of Kiev and other cities.

It seems that the stock market movement is based on whoever is talking the loudest. In Feb, Hawkish Central Banks and inflation were the absolute demons. This week it is far and away the Russia-Ukraine situation with the central bank concern a mere blip. Inflation is still on the minds of investors, but even more, “Global Recession”. But everything could change with a peace in the Ukraine. Or if the media gets tired of reporting on it. Which all good change even further if corporate earnings and guidance were through the roof. That was a 180 degree change in one month.

I saw an ad for burial plots, and I thought… "That's the last thing I need!"

The Question:

What are the three 0ldest Baseball Stadiums still in use in MLB? Bonus: For what was Cunard Liner RMS Laconia known?

The Headlines:

--Market Slip Towards Closing As Ukraine Peace Talks Lose Promise.

--Susan Collins To Vote For Jackson; Biden SC Choice Seems Assured.

--Russians Pound Kiev And Other Cities Despite Pledge Of Cutting Back

--US Astronaut Mark Vande Hei And Two Russian Cosmonauts Return To Earth Safely In Kazakhstan; Russian Soyus MS-19 Landed Upright; Vande Hei Was In Space Station For 355 Days.

It was nice to read this morning that Russie didn't leave our astronaut stranded in Space. I felt good about that.

People wonder how a nation can be so mad at another nation to the point where they suddenly assault a people living in in peace. And then we watch a guy run up on stage an smack a good guy telling jokes.

We have to get back America’s control of everything from energy to NASA or all US private space enterprise to chip manufacturing and many other necessities to life and security where we have lost control. Obama was Globalist and he took down NASA, expecting that some mystical kumbaya could unite dysfunctional nations.

Did you hear about the kidnapping at school? It's okay. He woke up!

Putin is all for peace as long as he gets all of Ukraine.

Today is National Take Walk in a Park Day. If I was homeless, I’d be all for it.

This proverb (Trust, but verify) rhymes in Russian – Doveryai, no proveryai – and literally means that a responsible person always verifies everything before committing himself to a common business with anyone, even if that anyone is totally trustworthy. Ironically, Regan did not invent “trust, but verify”, he just popularized and old Russian axiom.

You can easily talk to any strata in society if you know sports.

The Answer:

Fenway Park in Boston (1912) is the oldest. Next is Wrigley Field in Chicago (19140). That makes sense. But the big surprise is #3, Dodger Stadium in LA (1961). The rest of the oldest ten are LA Angels Stadium, Oakland Coliseum, Kaufman Stadium KC, Rogers Center Toronto, Tropicana TB, Guaranteed Rate Field Chi WS, Camden Yards Balt. Guaranteed Rate Stadium?? Not that’s catchy. Bonus. Cunard's RMS Laconia achieved the first continuous circumnavigation of the world by passenger liner, a voyage later dubbed the first world cruise.

Corporate names for stadiums seem to take away the romance of baseball. Wait, 1914 Wrigley Field is named after a chewing gum. I guess time is the answer.

The Tids will be more fun tomorrow.
