Autumn in Maine.

Today's Tids Issue 5,283

Quintessential Autumn:

I feel like an adventurer bold

When I walk on a golf course cold.

And I don’t even mind a misty shower

But it’s that wind at 35 miles an hour!

The National Debt is at $31,227,359,476,440. That was actually the number at the second I wrote this line of type, but the number changes rapidly – would you believe that it goes up One Million Dollars every 34 or so seconds! Since that line the debt went up to where it is now by $556,000,000. How many good Americans even care, much less know what’s happening. Not caring in matters this significant is more bout not knowing and Politicians always take advantage of the unknowledgeable. “The national debt. Who cares. It doesn’t affect me.” Oh yeah.

I always keep this live national debt chart handy https://www.usdebtclock.org/  It also shows real time auto and home sales plus lots of other stuff. It is actually kind of scary when watching the debt soar before your own eyes. I was in the Internet publishing biz for a while and one of the principles I adhered to when writing newsletters etc was never to put a link in the middle of a paragraph fearing once readers leave, they will never return. I hope you all came back because there may actually be something worth reading here.

Stock market experts are beginning to agree that we are closer to the end of the morass than to the beginning.

A great old friend wrote to me yesterday. He said he was sorry to have vanished, but he had been in kahoots. That was just after he and his wife had been in cognito. Nice to have him back. I about to be in sane

In the 1960’s they said oil will be gone in 10 years. In the 70's we were destined for another ice age. In the 80’s they said acid rain will destroy all crops in ten years and in the nineties, we were told the Ozone layer would be gone in ten years. And they are still making scary predictions. The only thing consistent through all of this was congress authorizing expenditures to pay for the solutions to something that never happened.

The Question:

I43 years ago today the world received an invention which to a large degree changed the way we lived. Today though ingrained in our society, it is very hard to find. What was it? Bonus: Since I have my handy my real time auto sales chart running, what do you think are the five top selling auto brands?

“If you ever get cold, stand in a corner. It’s usually about 90 degrees” --T Reliable B.

In case you are interested, the CBC outlined eth consequences of a large and growing federal debt: --Lower national savings and income; Higher interest payments, leading to large tax hikes and spending cuts; Decreased ability to respond to problems; Greater risk of a fiscal crisis. That is a pretty simple explanation, but in reality, if actions were honest instead of being political, the people understanding the reverberations would control the government as it should be.

Today is National Loud Shirt day. Should I turn down my hearing aids?

The top, most significant college football games of the weekend should be UCLA-Oregon (Even though earlier Oregon lost to Georgia by 45 points), Ohio State-Iowa, and Oklahoma State and Texas. I’m interested in Clemson and Syracuse, not because they both wear orange but I want to see if Syracuse is real again. You have to be able to move on past Jim Brown and Ernie Davis after 60 or so years.

I know a lot of gay people who’d rather be just another human who happens to be Gay instead of being part of a movement.

Have you noticed that recent world aggression syndrome news reports contain the names of China, Iran and North Korea working alongside Russia in its war effort. Thar’s disconcerting.

Today is National Reptile Day. Yup, I’m reminded of that with every venomous political commercial.

The Answer

Thomas Edison 143 years ago today successfully illuminated his lab with an incandescent light bulb. They are hard to find these days though appliance, marine, rough surface and 3–way bulbs are still being manufactured and sold. Bonus: Ok, as of this minute the top five selling auto brands are Toyota, Ford, Chevy, Honda and Jeep. Surprisingly, Tesla has moved all the way up to 9th! The rest of the top ten out of 34 brands are #6 Nissan, then Hyundia, Kia, Tesla and Dodge Ram just nipping Subaru.

Have a great weekend. E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
