Hysteria hates facts.

Today's Tids Issue 5,267

Bring Them Home:

"Ugh, it’s too cold, too cloudy, I can't go to the beach.” I hope people aren’t saying that today, June 6. How many young men were saying their prayers as they awaited in landing craft rocked by treacherous seas for the biggest invasion in history that would set the course to rid the world of the nazi barbarism. How many would rather their beach not be red with the blood of so many, so brave. But sitting there soaking up sun, letting the world go by was not of the hearts men so moved to fight for the freedom of all those to come. Today if you are walking on a beach and step on a sharp clam shell, don’t yell, “Ouch!” Think of the pain endured by all those who had fallen this day, 83 years ago.

Why do so many forget?

Do people in today's society really know what they like, or are they just liking what they are told they should like.

I tried to come up with a carpentry pun that woodwork. I thought I nailed it but nobody saw it.

This is a real big Sports News Alert: The PGA, Europe Tour and Saudi LIV have agreed to merge and both sides will drop all lawsuits. Ironically, last week Jack Nicklaus said LIV golfers have become irrelevant. And in reality, he was right as they were basically playing games in the twilight zone. So, it will be interesting to see how the details emerge. I expect the win by Brooks Koepke and his inability to be recognized worldwide for his accomplishments may have contributed to this change of heart. The Governo rof the Saudi Wealth Fund with become a member of the PGA Board. PGA’s Monahan will remain CEO. But details are sketchy now on how to integrate some of the renegade players and team Paly into the PGA tournament routine.

The Question:

Who wrote The Battle Hymn of the Republic?

The Headlines:

--Stocks Meandering Lower After Saudi Oil Cuts and New Treasury Issues; Investors Digesting Apple Hardware News Conference.

--SEC Sues Largest Crypto Currency Trading Platform, Coinbase a day After Suing Largest Crypto Exchange, Biance; SEC Says it is Stepping Up ot Protect Investors in This New Unregulated Market Explosion.

--Merck Sues US Government Over Inflation Reduction Act; Says It Violates Fifth and First Amendments; Seeks Injunction Against Price Negotiation Program in Act.

--Russia Destroys Major Dam in Southern Ukraine Causing Flooding and Viability of Drinking Water; Flooding Could Threaten Nuke Facility.

Yay for Merck.

$3,500 or not $3,500 I don't think I'll ever be standing in line for the New Apple Virtual Reality/Alternative Reality thingy. I see plenty of reality and incredible beauty in my mind already.

The host of The View yesterday sat speechless after listening to Repub presidential candidate Tim Scott rebut her systematic racism allegations because she didn't know how to deal with the facts.

I just heard a funny description of RI’s Speaker of the House which I don’t remember: “Captain of the Pirate Ship”. It was coined by a great former radio guy Steve Kass. I’m smiling

Being bought by Gannett now seems like the worst idea ever for newspaper people and their readers.

My landlord says he needs to come talk to me about how high my heating bill is. I told him, “My door is always open”.

Yesterday's Q was about five inventions that changed the world (Wheel, Elevator, Printing Press, Vaccines and Computer. “What about electricity and the phone,” I was asked.” So, I have been reading lists this morning and guess what, the wheel is still number one on all of the lists. And there was also the invention of stone age tools that have morphed into more modern steel versions that do pretty much the same things, bang on and grip stuff., One of the underrated most important inventions is the humble “Nail”. Harnessing electricity is certainly one of them and that enabled some many more improvements like refrigeration and the light bulb and yes, the computer itself. The transistor was certainly important as is the Internet. The phone huge in its day, has become an appendage to eh human skeleton. Some others just after the wheel include the miracle compass, and of course fire. An early critical addition was concrete. And later steel. Penicillin truly changed the world and has given us antibiotics. Learning to process crude oil a has helped us advance in to new and better materials in addition to making possible Automobiles and airplanes. Understanding chemistry certainly can’t be underestimated. The invention of steam power was another paradigm inducing invention. X-rays have changed the medical world. Cellulose was the first plastic and succeeding developments in plastic have improved lives immeasurably. Yes, inventions in times past while they may appear pretty ordinary now, were actually quite immense in the day and many of them laid the foundation for what has yet to come

I thought Chris Sununu, Smart, witty, capable and resourceful. would have been a great Repub candidate for Prez and now I know why. Yesterday he said he would not run because, he added, the key to Repubs winning the Presidency in 2024 is candidates knowing when they should get out early. What he is saying is that an overly crowded field helps Trump, and Sununu also says that a primary day vote for Trump is an election day vote for Biden.

I think one thing humans should always try to do as a number one priority is to find time for friends.

Yesterday I heard a joke about paper. It was tearable.

The Answer:

Julia Ward Howe wrote the Poem "Battle Hymn of the Republic”. She penned new words for an old tune, "John Brown’s Body”.

I’m friends with 25 letters of the alphabet. I don’t know why.

For all those who trod the beaches of Normandy on that day which set us free.
