Today's Tids Issue 3,080
Opening Stuff:
You can talk about
Kim and Khloe, The Bieb and Miley’s tongue, but my eyes and ears are squarely
focused on Putin. It’s hard to believe that a mature individual in these times,
with all of the history to draw upon, would even consider any action that could
ignite worldwide skirmishes, and more. But, people today want what they want,
and it is becoming obvious that the Russian President wants the USSR. The
market is down 160, and the Ukraine tension is a big part of it. It’s not just the
prospects of Putin pushing a button, but fears of increased sanctions and what
they would do to the US financial system. Weird, huh? You can wonder about the remains
of Ml or be flummoxed over Harry Reid remarks, but the true reality show in
America is “Putin In Kiev”. And, it’s scary real.
The unique thing
about the new movie “Draft day” (Which I really enjoyed) is that they made an
NFL movie with nary the utterance of the “F” word.
When you think
about all of the advice floating around the web, on the nightly news or in
cocktail party conversations, the old standby, walking, is about as good a
remedy there is for many an ill.
The Question:
Name what may be considered the top ten Women’s Empowerment movies.
And I don’t mean Debbie Does Dallas.

As boating season
arrives, I find that “The Landfall Report” is a handy information center
for everything marine – from up-to-date Coast Guard info to the latest products.
But then, I don’t know anything about marine stuff.
The most dangerous
societal adventure is any white man uttering opinions about black behavior.
Illegal immigrants
is just one of the indicators that bypassing the laws of land is the new
national pastime.
Kerry has become
the latest secretary of State to give up on finding peace between Israel and Palestine.
I guess when Abbas united with a dangerous terrorist arm of Hamas, it gave a
sign that even our diplomats could understand There ain’t gonna be no peace
today. I say that sarcastically, because
every president Dem or Repub seems to think they have the answer. All you have
to do is look around the Middle East and understand that there is no there,
there. It is what it is. All of those clichés are representative, because it
has been what it is since the beginning of time.
Take it to the Bank,
Department:
The women’s empowerment theme of the new film The Other
Woman will become a dominant topic of the weekday afternoon talk shows. Is there
golf on today?
Everybody on American
Idol loved CJ as a good guy, and J-Lo had a mini nervous breakdown when he
was axed. He does seem like a nice guy, but as far as singing went, it was
amazing he lasted so long. Ironically, as he sang his exit song, I heard a
performance that was pure, good entertainment. You know, maybe this year’s
AI group is as good as those past, but unfortunately,
they have to be compared to superior The Voice where the singers are just
obviously better.
I dread having to
report on America’s Got Talent because that means I’ll have to listen to Howie
Mandel.
The more I hear commercials
for buying gold as an investment, the more I feel it is one big con game.
The Conscience:
Chapter 41 continues.
A black
expensive looking car pulled up to the guard house at the entrance. A hand
wriggled out of a half opened window and gave the Guard a paper which he read.
He pushed a button to open the gate, and the car powered through, moving
quickly to the revered vacant spot once owned by Jason’s dad. That had to be
Sanna, I thought, the most irreverent of them all. The driver jumped out first
and pulled open the back door for Sanna. Sanna, stepping out, looked almost
regal in what was probably some big time fashion designer outfit. But don’t ask
me. At the same time, the opposite rear door opened and I saw Angelica rise up,
straightening her skirt and jacket as she moved away from the car. I straighten
up and ran my hand through my hair. She walked around to join her mother, who
continued to stare straight ahead. Fixated on something that was probably only
in her mind.
Angelica now stood
behind her mother and looked fragile to me. She was looking around, up at the windows
and at people milling out for the factory area for lunch break. I moved forward
so my body filled the window. Her head turned as she surely sensed a changed in
the scenery above. Her eyes lifted up. I saw her lips turn into a smile. She
quickly lowered her head and stared at mom. Mom hadn’t moved an inch. Maybe she
was remembering her Mobile Alabama past. Maybe her anger was again rising
against me because I had taken it, and so much of her life away from her. I moved
away from the window.
Reading Between the Lines
Movie Reviews:
--The critics are calling The Other Woman a “woman’s
empowerment movie”. Like women need empowerment! In the film a woman finds out
that her boy friend is married. She confronts the wife only to find that she
likes her and they have much in common. They (Camron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Kate Upton)
both meet a thord women also having an affair with the husband and they unite
for revenge schemes. It’s probably watchable and I’m thinking it will be like “9
to 5”.
--The Brick Mansions refer to the warn out older homes in
downtrodden Detroit. They are the headquarters of bad guys, An undercover agent
tries to take down a ruthless crime lord with access to a neutron bomb. Sounds
weak. It is one of Paul Walker’s last films.
--In The Quiet Ones, a group of University student meet at
an estate outside of London where thysd conduct an experiment on a young girl,
trying to extract horrible secrets. What the find is more terrifying then they
could ever imagine. Good horror yarn if you liked to be scared.
