Today's Tids Issue 3,326
Opening Stuff:
I am an American and I get
pumped with pride when that flag passes by on a sunny day at the end of May, especially in
a small town with an old Main Street, with people gathering for the same prideful
moment, all with the same feelings, standing or sitting on curbs or wall next
to white churches; everybody together looking like one united America. I stand
and feel tears in my eyes when Kate Smith sings God Bless America. But I have to
be honest; nothing gets me like the crowds lining the streets of London to
cheer on a regal event at the Abbey, and a gigantic orchestra and chorus
belting out God Save the Queen. Sorry, but that’s what I feel. I must have come
from Tories.
Plain
speaking Ben Carson, Old Huck and the real woman for independentwomen Carley
Fiorina join the Repub Campaign trail. I like Carley, or at least she talks
good so far. Some will say, but she lost in California. I say Californians didn’t
vote for her, and that’s a good thing.
I sometimes spend words in this
morning mess moaning chastising irresponsible teens and young adults in their twenties.
But, I exaggerate, as whom better knows the future of humanity than the youth
who fully understand the power (But, perhaps not the implications) of technology
evolving around us, technology that will truly define their future far beyond the
experience of my past. That doesn’t mean it will be a better future than ours,
probably because nobody’s life is typically as good as the lives we ourselves
experience. So things will change significantly and today’s young people know
it. Just hope that some of the new technology inspires them to pick up litter.
In Nepal there are Kumari, Child Goddesses who are
revered by the public. Selected young girls from 4 to 6 go though strenuous
tests to determine the one with extreme wisdom and patience, and serenity under
duress. They reign until they attain puberty. Now, it turns out that one house
still standing amidst the rubble and destroyed temples is the home of the Kumari
of Katmandu. It was said that at the time of the earthquake she was calm and
the people around her felt her steadying presence. Interestingly, in another
region of destruction there was also one house standing in the mass of crumbled
buildings, and human grief – a home where a 7 yo. Kumari lived. Do you feel something?
Probably the worst of widespread
human
negative habits is unnecessary worry – especially frantic worrying about things
that never come to pass.
Remember when parents would ask kids to walk down
to the store to pick up a loaf of bread or quart of milk. And the kids agreed.
The barber spent his retirement as a

In addition
to the Edsel, there have been several other big flops in the auto industry.
Name five. Bonus: Every young

I’m thinking of a new Blog
titled, “When
the news Cycle Ends”. For instance, a few weeks ago the California drought was
all over the Tube and newspapers. But now the easily bored scribes have moved
on to Baltimore, Mayweather and the new Babe of England. I think there’s a winner
here.
So, I sent my investigative
scribes out
to former popular news venues, California and Ukraine. Yes, California is still
experiencing the biggest drought in 1,200 years, and the orders are still out
to cut water usage by 25%. Everybody out there seems otbe getting it.
Landscapers are offering to rip out homeowners water guzzling lawns for free. Homeowners
are rigging systems that use “grey” water, water from showers and dishwashing,
which is perfectly good for non-drinking/eating activities like flushing. Farmers
are exempt from cut backs, but even they know they have to take some voluntary action
to contribute. It’s bad, real bad. And nothing has changed since the news people
left. – Ukraine isn’t as overt, nor is Putin, but plenty of angst is bubbling
below the surface. It’s not all words now as Russia has greatly increased air defense
and troop massing at the eastern border. Russia, if it wanted, and there are growing
signs that it does want to, can strike in nano-seconds at their will giving the
West little warning. Keep and eye on this one. Our inveterate reporters will
too.
The Manfred Symphony by Peter Illyich is very
un-Tchaikovsky, and worth a listen. There are some nice little passages that
will satisfy your inner ache, only interrupted for a moment or two by Tchai’s signature
bellowing bravado.
How many people do you think made Saturday a personal
sport of going to the Kentucky Derby to be seen and then flying up to Vegas for
the Fight, to be seen again? It appeared that athletes and movie people were
there in force.
Actually, lots of significant
sporting events are getting so expensive that they have or are quickly becomng way
beyond the reach of many American fans. Maybe this is the new trickledown
economics, where massive ball parks, sirens and stadiums are built in a such a way
with gold plated amenities that only the super rich can afford, but in doing so
create jobs where the average person can munch on the crumbs falling from the pockets
of celebrities. It’s a little like the new service economy where people flip hamburgers
or froth up coffees for their neighbors who do the same for other neighbors.
Here mega sports stars are the only people who can afford events made costly by
the untouchable salaries of mega sports stars. It’s an economy of riches with
no substance.
By the way, the average
wages of
Americans continues to dip, and one new factor being analyzed as a big factor
is the effect of the rapid increase in Workers born out of the country. About
41 Million (12.8%) of Americans are foreign born. This isn’t the hallucinations
of xenophobes, but a serious economic factor contributing to lower wages. Businesses
actually like it as they spend millions lobbying for new immigration laws, and “Guest
worker green card programs” that will basically help companies reduce costs. So
that’s what’s happening. And it is inevitable that it will continue. You can say
that it is better than building US factories in low labor cost countries. The
coffee shops will continue to grow.
Have you noticed that when
reaching 40
and good roles dry up, more and more actresses take on the title of Actress/Activist.
I heard a black leader saying that while he is in
support of the recent rallies against uncontrolled police actions, he is trying
to rally the black neighborhoods against the bigger problem – blacks killing
young blacks. He said that in just the short time span when the spotlight was
being shown upon Baltimore, 9 young black men were killed their neighborhoods
by black men. It is an epidemic, he said. This is our biggest problem.
In typical socialist
fashion,
Senators Reed (RI, Durban (Il), Warren (Ma) and Murphy (Ct) are trying to help
apart of America forgo basic responsibility. Reed has sponsored a law that would
require that colleges (With loan defaults above a designated level) share in the repayment of student loans – to themselves?
So when these kids get older they’ll lobby congress to have auto dealers share in
the repayment of car loans, or banks with mortgages. One of the more ironic
aspects of these growing student loan debts is that part of the problem are the
demands for higher salaries by typically left leaning faculties. Irony aside,
the cost of education is a problem. One of the basic problems is that too many
graduates can’t find jobs that equate to the cost of getting smarter. Actually,
I shouldn’t have gotten into this, because I could write a small book about the
mess. Let’s just end by saying that passing a bill to transfer debt to somebody
else is like every other government solution that treats symptoms and not the
disease.
A majority of lawyers think that the charges brought
against 6 police people by an over activist, highly political Baltimore District
attorney will never stick. They feel the overreach and the very public over
dramatization of the charges poisoned juror well and is grounds for moving the trial
to another location.
I went out with the coal miner’s daughter.
I guess you could say I was carbon dated.
The Answer:
A
lot of you remember the man and his car the Delorean DMC 12. Some other inventive
moments that sank were amphibious cars, the Pontiac Aztec (Put the Brand on the
shelf?), Lincoln Blackwood Pick-up, Studebaker Wagonaire and Dodge Omni. Bonus:
The six basic machines are Wheel and Axel, Lever, Wedge, Pulley, Inclined Plane
and Screw.
