Today's Tids Issue 3,478
Opening Stuff:
How
many times must we bow our heads and pray for innocents
slain. How often shall our eyes try to comprehend rivers of red blood flowing. I
have no answers. I have but a heavy heart. I do not understand evil hearts. How
can we see evil and yet not say it. I’d like to see light, but sadness clouds
my mind. God rest their souls.
Risky
loans are down 20% this month versus a year ago. That is
because the Fed and regulators are applying lessons learned during the mortgage
for all crises. Some big hedge funds et.al don’t like it, but Main Street which
always gets hit with the bill in the end while culprits walk, likes curbing
Wall Street insanity.
Any
time I need to reinforce my views on life, I watch that Shriner’s
commercial, “What is Love”. I melt at the strength of those kids who have
unique way of putting everything in perspective. Gets me every time. How can we
have so much black with so many lively hearts.
The
Question:
Double
Q Day!: 1. What was the first truly CoEducational college? 2. Quick, give me the names of 5
Tennessee Williams plays. Bonus: What
was the name of the Surgeon who led the team in the first heart transplant?

CBS
happened to have Obama apologist Nora O’Donnell in a room
with the President around the time of the shootings in California. Instead of
taking time to lead all Americans in prayer for the murdered and their families,
the politician after a few cursory words of understanding started promoting
anti-gun legislation and pointing accusing fingers at the other party. All Repub
candidates urged prayer and nothing else. In mourning, there is a time for
unity.
I’m
pretty cheap, well cost conscious, but I doubt if I’ll
be buying any clothes at BJ’s any time soon.
The
Tids 10-6 record was a little better than several
experts but a disappointment. The YTD record now stands at 115-64 (64%). Who in
August would have thought that Seattle at Minn would be the game of the week.
Minn’s at home but Seattle is improving rapidly. Yikes! I’ll give you my pick at
the end. There are actually many posers this week – Jets-Giants, Lions-Packers,
Falcons-Bucs, Texans-Bills, Ravens-Dolphins (Yes Loser games can be posers
too), Chiefs-Raiders, Cowboys-Skins and perhaps Broncs-Chargers. I’m holding my
breath and picking the Giants, Falcons, Bills and Ravens. The Chiefs are
playing great but I’ll take Oakland at home. The next big question is can
Detroit beat the Pack twice. Out on skinny limb, I go with Martha Firestone
Fiord’s team. The Cowboys may give up this week and Washington is playing with
a little heart. Skins. And, did we see the real Chargers re-emerge last week?
Maybe, but the Broncos are better. Of the rest I have Jax over Tenn (Almost a
poser), Chi over SF, Cinn over Cleve, Pats over Eagles and Pitt over Indy. And
now for the Seattle-Minnesota game. My heart says Vikings.
If
I had my druthers, I would probably choose not to work
on a bomb squad.
I
was an employee for a good part of my life, so I don’t
see why I can’t go through doors marked “Employees only”.
There
will be a lot of census data being released in the next
days, so check your papers for your town info. In RI, the five towns with over
50% college grads are in order Barrington, Jamestown, East Greenwich,
Narragansett and New Shorham (Block Island). I thought that this would coincide
with highest income average. It didn’t. Highest is Barrington at $103.9. Surprisingly,.
Next is rural Richmond, which only had 37% college grads. Then rest in order
are Jamestown, East G and New Shorham. High college Grad Narragansett average
salary is way down probably because that’s where a lot of URI graduates go to
live after graduation.
When
listening to incredulous reporters questioning authorities
like yesterday during press conferences about the horrendous massacre, I’m thinking
they seem to have all of the answers already so why are they asking. Why
instead aren’t they out there rounding up the shooters?
Keep
an eye out for all the disgusting weasels who emerge
from under rocks during this time of year, and follow delivery trucks around.
The internet is great, but it exposes all purchases to thieves. It is just one
of the latest epidemics that comes from societal progress. (I was going to use
the “Grinch” analogy but it is overdone, and there is nothing cute about this
travesty).
Isn’t
it great to see that paperweights are holding their own
in our new “Paperless” society?
Jungle
Jim Luscatoff died last night. The wonderful old
hardworking Celtic Luscky was one of those quiet basketball players who just
happened to make Hall of Famers Cousy, Russell, Heinsohn and Sharman better. The
bull of player clogged the middle for seven NBA championships and did those
unselfish things that make a team a team. He won the hearts of real fans because
they could see his hard work, which he preformed proudly. If I was building a
team, I’d look for Luscatoffs.
The
Parking Lot: Chapter 32 continues…
Where do
they get these people thought Fred eyeing another thug standing near a launch
as Jerry, still looking the worse for wear, pushed him down the path towards the
water? The guy was staring at him with the same icy gaze of the other Jackovoic
musclemen, It must be inherent in the genes of contract killers, he thought.
Frankly he was getting used to intimating glares, but that little bit of knowledge
didn’t make him feel any safer.
“Get in”,”
he heard from behind which was accompanied by another harder push. He almost stumbled,
but righted himself just as he came knee to gunwale. He was learning not to
talk or ask questions, but just wait until told. Nancy said to be good and he
was all for it. He lifted his leg over and stepped into the boat. He started to
move towards a rear thort, but a hand roughly grabbed his upper arm and pulled
him into a seat next to the helm. You‘re sitting here.
The unknown
thug sat next to him and put the gear into reverse. The low rumble became
louder as the launch slid away from the small dock. Fred generally liked the
look and sound of launches, but not today.
He sat
back in his chair, and turned his head to the driver, who looked at him and
actually smiled, “Hi, I’m Mason”. Fred pinched himself to be sure he was still
alive. “I know you’re Fred, so you don’t have to respond. Here’s what you have
to do. I’m going to drive the boat slowly down the shore line and then out to
and around the islands and you’re going to tell me about what parts of this
lake are owned by the family of Nancy Joachim. How easy is that?” Fred turned
to look at Jerry, but he s till looked like crap.
The
Answer:
1.
In 1833, Oberlin College in Ohio began classes for both men and women. 2. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof certainly came
to mind as probably did Streetcar Named Desire. The there was Glass Menagerie,
the first play that gave him fame. Sweet Bird of youth was well known too. The prolific
playwright also gave us Orpheus Descending, The Rose Tattoo, Summer and Smoke, Camino
Real and Garden District. Bonus: In 1967 South African Christian Bernard
and his team successfully transplanted a heart into Louis Washkansky. He lived only 18 days. The second recipient Dr.
Philip Blaiberg lived 19 months. Bernard
died in 2001 from a severe asthma attack.
Why
to leaders push us apart. Don’t they understand the wounds
it opens for infestation?
Here’s
something for San Bernardino:
