Today's Tids Issue 3,491
Opening Stuff:
The
chop ‘neath the piers was black. Forbidding. Maybe it
only felt bleak in this harbor with no masts splintering the sky. The emptiness
that comes when human’s leave. Yet the stark beauty was comforting. The winds
were high, with blasting gusts. It was a beautiful day under threatening skies.
Nary a human blurred the seascape. The docks and piers were uncluttered; the
harbor was mine alone. Just me and the igl9iness of a stormy sea that swelled
my heart. There is beauty in loneliness, and sadness too.
In
case you are confused, today is the first day of Winter.
Really. But, we’ve been sucker punched before.
You
have to wonder how many of the young hip generation will
be thinking they will are voting for the Hillary impersonator on Saturday Night
Live.

I
believe it is highly telling that Apple says they don’t go
to China necessarily for cost reduction but for “Skills” they can no longer find enough of in the USA. It was
master craftsmen like tool makers that gave the USA the significant edge as it
rose to lead the world in manufacturing, historically the underpinning of a
powerful economy. But now, not enough young people see the need to go the extra
inch to become proficient because the machines can do it. It will probably not improve
as because the Apps rule! So, we can complain about products from overseas, but
right now they have the labor force that can do it right. We have Uber drivers
and coffee clerks.
A
wise coach doesn’t see superstars, but only how well all
the players interact together.
The
hardest person to talk to is an egoist specializing in
one-upmanship.
Nah…the
Clintons would never ask their daughter to plan the arrival
of a second child to coincide with their political ambitions, would they? Yeah,
right.
Is
The Admin working around the Congressional efforts to
impose simple safeguards against potential militant immigration. It seems that
way if you read John Kerry’s letter to his counterpart in Iran saying, “that
the administration could help the country get around new visa restrictions passed
by Congress. Maybe Obama is running for President of Iran for his retirement
activity.
“…and
the Lord said unto John, ‘Come forth, and you will receive
eternal life.’ But, John came fifth and got a toaster.” –Thanks to an astute observer of the Tids.
Out
in Las Vegas, Pia Aonzo Wurtzbach of the
Philippines, the winner of Miss Universe, said that the mix-up in the announcement
was “so 2015”. Yes indeed, we do live in a new era where negativity quickly
becomes a positive. Miss Columbia could make a fortune being the public face of
all companies that come in second.
Or,
is it indicative of how quickly in a high technology
world you can fall from the top.
Did
you see where the animal populations in the Chernobyl
restricted zones are soaring? There was no mention of multiple eyes, legs or
tails. The population of Wolves is particularly high making a true “No-Little-Red-Riding-Hood”
zone. Ahroooooooo!
And
in the USA, hoards of ferrets are now running wild
in the former chemical weapons zone in the Rocky Mountains. This reminds me of the
urban metro scene of a wolf trying to attract a young woman with his pet
ferret. It is a dangerous situation.
So
what’s next, Wallabies in Walla-Walla nuke waste
depots?
The
Parking Lot: Chapter 36.
Staying out of sight was the new passion for
Nancy and Jared. They used Beth for their eyes, and found that Fred was beginning
to enjoy his role as superspy.
Today
they were sitting in their non-descript older, dusty on purpose Hyundai on a
bleak street in southeastern Fall River. Their car was dwarfed by the old
Granite mills, which in times past were beautiful symbols of American ingenuity
and production…and labor ills. Even though they weren’t killers, they had become
pretty adept at successfully taking out amoral thugs in the past month an a half.
So, they knew that surprise by then quite lambs would be a thing of the past.
They
could just show up at the town office with their papers and proof of ownership
that could stop any deal, but the harassment would never end until they
neutralized what now seems like an organized crime assault on citizens. Of
course they could call the Stare police, but that may mean explaining the near
epidemic disappearance of goons. No, they decided to deliver a neat package to
the authorities.
The plan
was easy. Implementing it was hard. Jared looked over at Nancy sitting there so
confident and almost felt good about doing something so stupid. He put his hand
on her shoulder, but she didn’t come his way. She was in full offensive mode.
The
Answer:
It isn’t surprising considering all of the recent
fame bestowed upon Bill Murray that Ghostbusters was one. Next is one of my all
time favorites – Being There with Peter Sellers and Shirley McClain. Others are
the Shawshank Redemption, LA Confidential, Top Gun, The Mark of Zorro, another
of my favorites from way back – 1950’s Winchester 73, Old Mill – the 1937 animated
predecessor to Disney’s big hits, Edison Kinescoptic Record of a Sneeze and
1915’s A Fool There Was starring Theta Bara.
