Today's Tids Issue 4,067
For a soft spoken world:
For
all of you who think that the world is deteriorating, I
have good news. More and more restaurants are offering mashed potatoes
and…gravy.
You
have to believe that Paul Manafort is saying to himself –
why did I ever think getting into politics was good idea.
Political
discussions these days never appear to be directed towards
arriving solutions, but basically shouting down other people to protect narrow,
sacred ideologies.
The
Question:
Hollywood’s Academy of Cinematic Arts, or something
like that, has announced their favorite movies for which they will shortly be applauding
themselves at the annual narcissism event. But the real people have their own favorite
movies of 2017. Name the top ten of the People’s faves.

A
reader wondered why yesterday I seemed fixated on
insolent, crass, uncivil, boor, Teen Vogue Editor Laruen Duca. It was because I
was concerned that the next generation of most likely young teen girls will
read her stuff and assure that America of the future will have another generation
of insolent, crass, uncivil boors.
When
you peel the way the layers of a high-priced specialty food
market you find a basic market that sell regular food at higher prices.
If
President Trump were to ban all guns, create a multibillion
dollar slush fund for Sanctuary cities or set up an incentive plan that would pay
generously to foreign citizens sneaking into the USA, The USA Left Wing would all
become Republicans, thinking DT had switched their side. If you read news
reports of anything the President does, you clearly see that he will never receive
credit for anything he does.
America
would be better off if we stopped rewarding outrageous insolent
behavior.
AI
will probably be the base investment gem of the future.
China has a national policy that would assure them of being one of the biggest in
the world, surpassing the US, by 2030. They have built a $2.1 billion research
facility to advance a number of the facets of AI including big data, deep
learning, biometrics and cloud computing. Three stocks you might consider
following are the already huge eCommerce company Alibaba, the equally
successful Tencent and the Chinese internet search leader Baidu, already a
leader in driverless cars.
One
thing I have learned in life is that the “You can’t
tell a book by its cover” axiom really applies to restaurants.
The
secondary tragedy of the Parkland shooting is media and politicians
using the death of innocents to push their anti-gun agendas,
“The
Coward of Broward”. A deputy is branded for life – the harshest
punishment.

Between the Lines Movie Reviews:
--Surprise, Surprise! Annihilation, the hot new
movie based on the best selling “Southern Reach Trilogy” has an all-female cast,
trying to achieve what men couldn’t. Well I won’t be wearing a pink hat, but I might
see this film, well done and well received by critics and audiences. It’s about
a science team trekking into the unknown to discover why so many teams before
never returned, and the teams that did, were changed forever.
--Game Night is another decent film about young couples
and occasional single friends who live for playing board and party games. At
first it looks like a power struggle movie, but it all changes when one of their
members is kidnapped and they embark upon a different kind of game, breaking all
of the rules – which just happens to be a major sin for game players. I’d go.
--While the world dwells on young lunatics growing
up strangely as classmates, a creepy new film about young Jeffery Dahmer appears
today. It’s a bout his friends looking back and remembering the lonesome boy.
The
Answer:
#1 for the folks is Logan. Dunkirk is #2 and is
followed by Guardians of the Galaxy, Spiderman Homecoming, Wonder Woman, Get
Out, Baby Driver, Thor Ragnarok, John Wick: Chapter 2 and Split. Early Oscar favorite
Three Billboards is rated #19. Shape of water is 22, Big Sick is 23, Lady Bird
is 28 and I, Tonya is #43. My personal favorite, The Greatest Showman, is 39.
