The Wide World of Do-Re-Mi.

Today's Tids Issue 4,349
Don't Fence Me In:

The global economy is in charge. Regardless of how strong the US economy may or may not be, the objective for US businesses is always growth, and worldwide sales present gobs of opportunities for revenue and profit. Hey, it would be comforting if we just operated within our own borders, were entirely self-sufficient, reduced demands for ever higher profits so more of the population would be employed at higher wages which would enable the folks to buy more stuff to keep the internal economy growing. That would work, right? But, growth is the objective, and will be, unless the entire investment sector throws in the towel. An unencumbered global economic playing field is the best ingredient for innovative growth and sustained income and profits. That’s the long way around to say, I’m not liking these tariffs and government intrusions into free market capitalism and neo-capitalism.

Public employee pension deficits is still the noose around necks of US cities everywhere. They just don’t talk about it as much anymore. But when they do, the problem appears unsolvable without massive revenue infusions from your know who. Or, perhaps attracting strong job producing large companies, who probably don’t want to endanger themselves by being in a city that needs gobs of money.

Women say childbirth is the most painful experience of their lives until three years later when he Strat stepping on Legos.

Today’s Word – Gob: It is from the French “Gobe” meaning mouthful. Also from the French is Gobble “To eat fast and greedily. When a politician says a mouthful he or she is said to have the “Gift of gab”. A sailor is called a ”Gob” because of the common practice of  early British sailors to tell yarns while chewing tobacco and spitting out the juice. Again the Mouth, emitting a gob. It has become common in Britain to say I’ve been “Gobsmacked” meaning I’m flabbergasted, speechless. Yes, the common denominator of all this gobbledygook, is the mouth.

Trump says he would like to run against Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders or Beto. The way it is looking now as he tweets and tweets, he may have to run against a Repub first.

The Question:
What was the name of the Beatles very first Album? Bonus: What was the name of the Captain of the Exxon Valdez? Extra Bonus: Who was the youngest to ever win the Women’s World Figure Skating Championship? Super Extra Bonus: Name Three Stephen Sondheim musicals?

Elijah Cummings seems to have perfected a unique talent for dismissing the exactness of quotes in favor of his own spin that changes the meaning entirely. This does not a Chairman of a major congressional committee make.

Jonathon Livingston Seagull just stopped by my window to say good morning. I waved, he ruffled his feathers. I think he wants to come in from the rain. But, I’m sure I’d lose points if I let him in.

I have wasted far too many brain cells trying to figure out Brexit. I’m off it. When you get older, you have to save brain cells til the end. They’re more valuable than money.

I prefer global economic open borders and closed governing entity borders.

I have noticed that scientists when talking about things related o climate now distinguish change by human caused and natural. The earth has experienced devastating climatic change well before humans were firing earthen pots along the Nile. We have had documented climate disaster reports in the 1880’s and 1920’s. I believe climates change. And I know for sure that humans have an abilty to mar the earth and country sides of waving white daisies. And the skies above and seas below. I just want to be rational when making earthshaking decisions.

Personally, I think tourism I one industry that has a big effect on the environment.

Does your horse smoke?
No.
Well then, your stable is burning.

The Pope said he is planning on having psychological testing for new applicants. The hope is that it would help determine which could exist as celibate. How about just allowing marriage.

New Yorkers love to usurp things as their own. For instance, last night a commentator was talking about the greet Japanese baseball player Ichiro, saying he is loved in New York and Tokyo. But to me, and expect most, Ichiro will always be a Seattle Mariner. He played there 13 years and was one of the best in baseball, a surefire Hall of Famer. In NYC, he played 3 years, the same as Miami after NY.

Reading Between the Lines Movie Reviews:
--The Critics really like Gloria Bell, (Reviewed here Last Week) more than likely because it stars one of their favorites Julienne Moore. I think she always looks pasty.) The gurus also like the direction and the aura. Ut I like plots. It looks like a snoozer to me. It’s basically a dating complications film for 50 year old’s’.
--In US, an old-fashioned horror film, Adelaide is paranoid and that grows with each inexplicable, unsolved trauma from her past that keep on emerging. Adelaide and her basically regular American family of four must rally against their devious foe, which is reality is themselves. It’s probably worth seeing especially of you like horror. This is well done.
--Cruel Intensions is a teen film about sexual exploitation and sexual conniving. Its about suctions and probably teen rape and humiliation. It’s about an evil challenge between teens s that you hope your children never have to be associated with. Its about evil little kids of whom I am not interested.
--I might go to Triple Threat. It’s about a group of assassins hired to take out a billionaire’s daughter who is out to bring down a major crime syndicate  My only worry is that it may be way too much over the top to be enjoyable.

The Answer:
The Beatles’ debut album was “Please Please Me”. Bonus: Joseph Hazelwood gained infamy as Captain of the boat that spilled the oil that blacked snow white Alaska. He was found not guilty of all major changes; Guilty on one misdemeanor. Extra Bonus: Tara Lupinsky was just 14 when she won the World’s! Interestingly, just before her win, the world association established a minimum age of 15. But, Tara of the US at 14 was grandfathered in. Or is that grandmothered?  Super Extra Bonus: Sondheim has been awarded many prizes for his inventive plays and memorable music. The favorites are Into the Woods, Sweeny Todd, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Sunday in the Park with George and Company. Company is considered the most Sondheimish. “Send in the Clowns” is the favorite song. Sondheim started by writing the lyrics for West Side Story and then Gypsy. Good start!

Have gobs of fun this weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y
