Today's Tids Issue 4,540
Ornaments don’t get old.
Ornaments
just gather more beautiful memories.
This was the weekend
where a lot of people went out to the highways and byways to tree farms, and into
the woodlands to cut down a Christmas tree. It was cold, just the right temperature
for getting down and sawing. And enjoy hot chocolate bubbling. I remember clearly
days in the past hauling a tree across fields through drifting snow to the car;
driving home through snowy ruts to bright and happy eyes. And decorating, with special
ornaments from the past. Many from those not with us. Yes, I can see families
in homes over this past weekend, laughing and smiling together as Grandpa’s favorite
angel tops the tree and saved ornaments with memories get positions of prominence.
And then the entire tree is carefully filled with glittering balls and fanciful
images, all that will become nostalgia again for future generations.
I’ll tell you how
out of touch I am with modern society. I always thought Shia LeBeouf was a woman.
I find this time
in the Christmas progression rather tense. Well, not that tense, except for the
moment when you plug in the Christmas tree lights and hope they all light up.
I’ll never understand
why they close Ice Cream shops in the winter. It still tastes good.
If you start hearing
chatter from your spice cupboard, don’t worry. It’s just the season’s
greetings.
It is not impossible these days
to think you may meet somebody who thinks good surf and turf is Kelp and Kale.
But, I personally like a good lunch of a Lobster roll and a think juicy Roast Beef
sandwich. Maybe with a fry or too.
The Question:
What are the ten Most popular types of Christmas
trees?

I think artists
are incredibly talented people. But there are many who snooker the public,
especially some of the wealthy who would never want to be known as someone “Not
understanding” art.
I think it is a generational plot. Do
you know how technology device manufacturers keep oldsters reliant on the youth?
Type size. Yes, they print instructions on mini, graphic designer-orgasm creations
in 6pt or less type size.
The bandwagon to legalize
Marijuana is rolling along through the green, green grass of the highlands.
But, do you know why MJ is illegal in the
first place? In 1937 FDR signed the Marihuana Tax Act. (Yes, it was spelled Marihuana.)
The excise tax was repealed in 1969 after a Supreme Court Decision on O’Leary
vs. USA.
The New England
artist brushed it aside when people gave her the nickname Yankee Doodler.
Singer Billie Eilish
said that Trump will get elected again because “Some people just love horrible
people.” You mean, Billie, like all those Americans who like suspect entertainers.
It’s just another way of saying deplorables.
What’s with this new trend
of the high and mighty and successful dumping on regular people who won’t be
cowed by twinkling starlets.
Debbie Boone
is known for her Christmas tree song – “You light up my life.”
You can always tell
when an elderly man or woman has been working on assembling or activating a new
tech gadget. They’re squinting.
Albert Einstein and Charlie Chaplin met.
Albert to Charlie: “What I admire most about your art, is its universality. You
do not say a word, and yet, the world understands you.” Charlie to Albert: “It’s
true, but your fame is even greater. The world admires you when nobody understands
you.”
Congressman Al Green
who wanted to impeach Trump in his first month, has just said that if Trump is found
not guilty by the Senate, we’ll just impeach him again, and then again after
that if necessary. I don’t think Green understands that The US isn’t South
America.
Aarrrrrrrrgh!
Meanwhile back in RI,
the mainly lawyer and union official dominated State Legislature will probably
be voting on a RI Bar association proposal mandating lawyer representation for
both parties at all house closing. Legal featherbedding.
Old Tannenbaum
is good chemis-tree fir families.
Yesterday in 1998:
“Struggling to stave off impeachment, President Bill Clinton’s defenders forcefully
pleaded his case before the House Judiciary committee.” Clinton lost. Trump has
declined to forcefully fight the impeachment Judiciary Committee. He will lose
too.
What happened to originality
on Broadway. Many new shows are movie plots turned into musicals, two on the docket
being Pretty girl and Mean Girls. But the laziest editions to the renown street
of creativity are merely former singing star reviews, middling satires surrounded
by stars hit songs – the latest three being Cher, The Temptations, and yes
Donna Summers. Holy John Travolta, Batman.
Yaks are big bison
like creatures that can live at altitudes of up 20,000 feet at at temps as low
as minus 40 degrees. They have adapted to their demanding conditions by
developing extra-large lungs and double hair insulation. So, as the climate cycle
changes over time, Americans will too… over about 4,000 years. If their helicopter
parents allow them to go outside as kids.
Snakes don’t have
arms. That’s why they don’t wear vests.
(Thanks
to a good reader and Stephen Wright fan for the above logic.)
I wish I was as smart
as all of the people from whom I steal quotes.
“A ship is always safe
at shore, but that’s not what it’s built
for.” –Albert Einstein
The Answer:
Number One is the Fraser Fir. That is followed by
Noble Fir, Blue Spruce, Grand Fir, Balsam Fir, White Fir, Eastern White Pine, Douglas
Fir, Norway Spruce, and the rugged Scotch Pine. Another list I found has it
Balsam, Douglas and Fraser.
Never fir-get
your Christmas tree.
Oh Tannenbaum.
“Your dress wants to teach me something: Your hope and durability provide comfort
and strength at any time.” Your needles are as green in the heat of summer as they
are in the cold of Winter.
