Slow Movin':
Maybe staying at
home will slow down the world a bit; where perhaps people will again handwrite letters
and personal notes that actually endure over time, as those receivers tuck away
their favorites in books or little wooden boxes.
My grandfather
built an entire Itch-Cream business from scratch.
Yesterday I suggested that a
rascally congressperson could hold up passage of the big stimulus bill. And I suggested,
based on her own proclamations, that it could be loose cannon, AOC. It wasn’t her
or even a Dem. It appears that it will be a GOP Rep from Kentucky named Thomas
Massie. He may be making a point, which frankly many conservatives would like
to make, but he unlike those who but their tongues, decided to clog the cog. Not
only is he slowing the inevitable process, but he is basically endangering the other
454 reps who must now leave the safety of their homes and get on planes. He is now
officially off the ballot for Mr. or Mrs. or Miss or they Congeniality award.

The Question:
The Legendary John Curley Neal died last night, He
was one of the shining stars for those wonderful Harlem Globetrotter teams; a
masterful dribbler and shooter, and quite the human being, they say. He is one
of just four players among many who entertained us all on the Globetrotters whose
uniforms have been retired. Can you reach back into memory-land and name the other
four? Just press the sidesplitting, laugh-out-loud button.
The Headless:
--Potential Stumble In House Stimulus Approval Has
Stocks Sinking After Three Solid Up Days; Consumer Sentiment Index Plunges 11
Points.
--UK PM Boris Johnson Has CV; Experiencing Mild Symptoms.
--Trump And Xi Talking; Xi Tells Trump That China
And US Must Unite To Fight Virus; NK Secretly Asking for Aid To Fight CV While` Denying It exists.
--Netanyahu And Chief Rival Bernie Gantz Now Expected
To Form A Unified Government.
--USA Leads Now In Covid-19 Cases; Passed Both Italy
And China..
--US Files Drug Trafficking Charges Against Venezuela
President Nicolas Moduro; Moduro Threatens Trump.
--Putin calls For Sanctions Moratorium At G20; Says
Russia Expects To Defeat Virus In 2-3 Months.
--Biden Sees No need For More Debates.
A reader who lived in Milan Italy
for 6-7 years wrote to tell me he has grandchildren in the region. You can imagine
the pain felt each day as they see that CV creep. Most of the time when
reporting statistics, we miss the very real human side of constant worry. This
reader is just one of many with attachments in dangerous places.
I don’t believe that the
Consumer Sentiment number right now is a good indicator of an economy. Today it’s
much too closely related to major, hopefully short-term event. I mean, it’s like
a “Duh” indictor.
For the guys watching
the Pulp Production documentary on On-Demand TV, it was paper view movies.
In response to Wednesday’s
question on Best Fashion Designers a reader writes to remind us that I left out
Hugo Boss, the designer who gave us “The uniforms for WWII Nazis – including those
dashing SS Uniforms.” There’s a lot of knowledge in this world to uncover.
Think about what the luxury
of having non-pressuring free time affords. You have time to think though decisions
without jumping into possibly bad ones. You can sit and take all the time you need
to discover information about something that has interested you all your life,
but always pushed aside to another day. You can enjoy the amazing emotional
treat of seeing things in people and things we always took for granted. Yup, we
got the time. Use it and don’t rue it. It’s pretty darn valuable.
Whoever said
one person couldn’t change the world never met the guy who ate the undercooked bat.
“Reading Between the Lines Movie Reviews”
is recovering in isolation.
So, here is a short list of some favored Streaming ventures
from Netflix, HBO, Showtime, Hulu and Amazon Prime.
--Tonight, begins the third season of the great Ozark.
I can hardly wait. It is a winner. If you have never seen in it, find some catchup
locations.
--While waiting for Ozark, Netflix has had a pretty
good yarn form Harlan Cobin called Stranger. Keeps you moving and interested
with a great cliffhanger at every ending, and new surprise every beginning I mean,
I like it.
--The Inventor – the story of the Elizabeth Holmes
Theranos Scandal – “A window into the psychology of Fraud”, is interesting.
--Showtime is getting ready to bring back “Billions”
just after the final, excellent season of Homeland. Clare Danes and Many Patinkin
are their excellent best this tense series ending thriller. I now for sure I
will miss it.
--The Top Streaming efforts for Prime are Bosch, The
Boys, Catastrophe, Fleabag, Forever, The Man In High Castle, The Marvelous Mrs.
Maisel, Mozart in the Jungle and Jack Ryan.
--Hulu – Little Fires Everywhere, Reprisal, The Handmaids
Tale or among the best there.
--On the Horizon are a potential return for Fargo, Succession
and Netflix show Dead to Me. Amazon has One Mississippi, Curb Your Enthusiasm,
Homecoming and Mr. Robot.
I know many of you out there
are a lot smarter than I about finding good streaming programming. With a wider
variety of taste.
The Answer:
The Harlem Globetrotters were an American
institution and these four plus Curley made them a household name— Reese Goose Tatum
(The First Clown Prince), Meadowlark Lemon (The Second Clown Prince), Marquis
Haines (The magical dribbler before Curley) and Wilt Chamberlain, who I don’t associate
with the Trotters at all. Maybe Sweetwater Clifton or Pop Gates deserves shot. Wilt
is a legend but not with the Globetrotters. Maybe they should have retired the uniform
of Louis “Red” Klotz, the guy on the opposition who always lost. Red played in over
19,000 games, humbly accepting defeat each time mainly as player and coach for the
Washington Generals. O, wait a minute, Red is the 6th player to have
his jersey retired! Makes sense.
Sometimes when I have
so much time, I read too much about stuff I’m trying to locate and the Tids
never gets out.
Have a great weekend,
E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!! It will be just like the week!! Slow and easy and delightfully
confining.
