Laughing through the weekend.

Today's Tids Issue 4,766

The Crunch:

Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Some people take rainy days an insult. More people look at rainy days as refreshing the earth.

Sad State of America, Department:

Walmart announced that until a safe time following the election, they will remove all guns and ammo from their stores. This is as a reaction to the possibility of riots and looting by people who don’t understand the idea about how Americans vote for their governments.

I still have a lot of faith for recovery in the Stock market to muddle through the Covid induced downturn…with a little help from our friends. It is not exactly the kind of help I would design because it involves too much Government intervention, But right now the prospects for Stimulus after the election remains strong, In Europe, the ECB pretty much promised today to infuse money in December to keep their economies flowing.

We have enough youth. How about a Fountain of Smart?

The Question:

What are considered the top five “Silent” films?

The Headlines:

--Wall Street Depression Continues; Tech Laden Nasdaq Leads Stocks Down; Dow And S&P Also Sluggish; FAANG Earnings Reports Not Good Enough To Support Run-Ups.

--Louisiana Dismayed At Daunting Damage From Zeta. Power Out For Millions; 6 Dead.

--FBI Investigation On Hunter Biden Is Ongoing; Bobulinski Interviewed By 6 Agents On October 23.

--Swings State Poll Numbers Changing Regularly. Trump Appears Strong In Ohio, But Biden Looks Stronger In Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania And Even Georgia.

--In JH National Covid Report, New Infections Now Occurring At Less Than One A Second.

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

The early consensus is that without Florida, Trump can’t win. Just in case you are wondering why the two candidates are soaking up the sun on the Covid active beaches

Have you noticed when reading news headlines that a great percentage of them are just about inane happenings and mostly gossip? There a lot “Who Cares” info out there posing as news.

I thought I’d send out some funny one liners’. I don’t think this weekend will be funny. Obviously, could find any.

If money can’t buy happiness, how come MacDonald’s continues to sell happy meals?

I’m’ beginning to see the arguments arising about which of the two candidates are most corrupt. That’s what I call a sad day in America. A lot of it comes from Biden’s campaign trying to lay the ground work for their candidate to be looked upon more kindly compared to the Prez, despite the corruption argument. From Joel Mathis of “The Week”: “Even if Joe Biden turns out to be irredeemably corrupt, he is no match for President’s Trumps epic underhandedness.” Makes you feel good about America, doesn’t it. But, PR people are always looking ahead, and now they have to ponder a “What if it is true” defense. Knowing that there are always shenanigans when policing are involved is one thing, But knowing aw way too much about it focuses the national discussion salacious minutia instead of what needs to get done for all.

I’m feeling pretty good about myself. The puzzle I bought asid “3-5 years”. I finished it 18 months.

The Answer:

Are the streamers like Netflix running out of movies? Maybe we’ll have out go silent, which would be refreshing considering this Political season. #1 Best Silent is Charlie Chaplin in “The Gold Rush”. The rest are Emil Jannings in The Last Command, Chaplin again in City Lights, Chaplin in the Kid, Janet Gaynor in 7th Heaven, Janet Gaynor and George O’Brien in Sunrise, Buster Keaton in Steamboat Bill, Buster Keaton in The General, Harold Lloyd in Safety Last and Clara Bow, Richard Arlen, Buddy Rogers and Jobyna Ralston in Wings.

I’ts not the fall that kills you. It’s the sudden stop at the end.

Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!

Election Anxiety Index.

Today's Tids Issue 4,765

Covid was easier:

It’s hard to feel anxious when you are laughing.

Vaccines always take time to reach perfection. Just because we want it doesn’t make it so. But I’d like to see more emphasis on therapeutics. You know, a drug regimen that would keep infectees from dying. All we ever hear about is the Vaccines, but finding a cure is high on my list.

A lot of People don’t feel from their heart any more. They weigh their feelings against potential criticism from Social Media. This is a sad situation. When you can’t feel, what do you have/\?

All I ask as I sit humbly at is keyboard, is get the stocks through the historic horror show that is often October. Many a tough survival battle has been fought during this time over the past century. Though I think we will back get there to positive weekly performances again this time.

The Question:

Name Richard Dreyfuss’ greatest movies.

The Headlines:

--New Jobless Claims Come In Better than Expected; Europe Markets Up; Investors See Surge In Q3 GDP; Nasdaq and S&P Up, Dow Opens 220 Down Now Turns Corner Up.

--France And Germany Institute New Lockdown For A Month; Protests Rise In Germany; Fauci Says Don’t Expect FDA Approval For Vaccine Until At Least January.

--Two Million In Southern Louisiana Without Power As Zeta a Reaps Havoc.

--Stabbing In Nice France Church That Killed 3 Called Terrorism Attack By Mayor.

--Record hospitalizations Occurring In Midwest.

--Nancy Says She And Mnuchin Never Close.

--Supreme Court Sides With Dems In Recent Voter Issues.

Global warming and cooling has been part of the earth’s life cycle for eons. But, perhaps we now have more tools to stabilize rabid changes in the earth’s environment. A new fast becoming popular strategy is called “Solar Climate Intervention”, or “Solar Geoengineering” The gist of this new engineering concept. is refection of the suns energy back into space, i.e. like the effects of ash clouds from volcanic eruption. In addition to mandates from Biden for mask wearing, some insiders are saying he will also mandate all US Citizens wear reflecting shields as head ware. It is expected to be a major topic at the UN in February.

In the “Nobody is ever happy department”, the left is grossly opposed to Solar Geoengineering seeing it as a “Dangerous and Illusionary fix, one that would encourage people to keep burning fossil fuels while exposing the planet to unexpected and potentially menacing side effects.’ Baseball cap manufacturers find the the idea intriguing for new product line development.

Nancy said that she and Steve Mnuchin were never close on stimulus. Nancy will never be close with anything that would give Repubs an edge even it helped all Americans equally. This is the problem with modern day me first, me only politics.

Pickin’ Time! Last week, we were 11-3 bringing our record to 74-29-1 (72%). Tonight’s game between the Falcons and Panthers was never on my anticipation list. I have grown to like Carolina and tonight McCaffery is expected back. I go Carolina. Some of the more intriguing games for me are Titans-Bengals, Browns-Raiders, Rams-Dolphins, Pats-Bills, Niners-Seahawks and Saint-Bears. The game of the week should be Steelers and Ravens. Ok, who wins? I put Tenn/Cinn in this category not just because I like the sound of Tenn/Cinn, but because with new QB Cinn is looking competitive and Tenn is coming off a tough loss. But I go Tenn. I like them. I think the Browns will beat the Raiders in a very good ball game. Dolphins have shown something but they are starting their new young QB Tua, so that Makes LAR look better to me. If the Niners are as fast as they looked against the Pats (Or are the Pats just that slow) they should take the Seahawks. But, I still like Seattle. I’m looking for the Bears to come back and win against the Saints who make me nervous these days. Can my beloved Pats lose 4  in a row? How good is Buffalo? Lots of questions here. I’m picking the Bills. Ouch. I guess I like Pittsburgh a lot this year. But I think Baltimore will surprise. Wait a minute, I just changed my mind. The Pats will not lose four in a row, Go Pats.

Of the rest, the Bucs should have a snoozer against the Giants. A normally great rivalry game between the Eagles and the defenseless Cowboys looks like another win for Philly. I’m picking the Broncos over the Chargers. The Pack and Vikings would normally be a glamor game but the Vikes lost something over the summer. Gotta go Pack. Maybe I should have put the Lions and Colts in the “Intriguing” section. Surprisingly Detorit is 3-3 and they face an Indy team that is 4-2 and looking competitive But, I’m going Lions.

The Dems like to blast Trump for caring more about the stock market than people with Covid. But workers with pensions need the stock market, investing in businesses that create jobs need a healthy economic climate, and Foundations that create billions for charity need a solid stock market. I just plain hate the BS of politics.

The Answer:

I always liked Richard Dreyfuss. He sat next to me n a restaurant in Boston once and I awkwardly said, My kids would never believe I was sitting with you. Hew wrote and signed a note and handed it to me. “Dear Kids, Believe your father”. He was eating spaghetti with white clam sauce. His best moves are #1 Close Encounters Of the Third Kind. is Jaws, The Goodbye Girl , American Graffiti, Mr. Holland’s Opus, Dawn and Out in Beverly Hills, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kavitz, What About Bob, Tin Men, Nuts, Dillinger and Always.

I believe there is more anxiety over this election than any other in history. Maybe it’s the rampant communications opportunities. But more likely it’s because of the massive amount of Trump derangement syndrome that has been festering for 4 years. Anxiety just has to be off the charts. Personally, I just want it over. So, we can get back to simple normal days with Covid.

Defining America.

Today's Tids Issue 4,764

Living with Covid:

“Never in all my days would I have thought that my hands would one day consume more alcohol than my liver. “

Well, don’t worry, just one more week of Covid and then if Joe is elected, it’s over.

Isn’t it interesting that Covid rhymes with Ovid?

A poet of yore who wrote of love.

That beyond the hardship of Covid,

So many of us are looking within ourselves.

Maybe finding feelings we never thought we had.

Maybe looking at others in a way never before seen.

Out of hardship often comes new beginnings.

New days. new energy, new awareness.

There are always blessings to be found.

Any way you look at this election duress, it’s hard to find any good out of the hardship of enduring it all.

A gift from Covid is that now I can clean my glasses with “Puffs” again because the lotion is in there anymore That is nice.

Expect a lot of Stock Market naysayers to rush to microphones crowing, “See I was right”. I’m still saying, just wait a week or so, that is, if the naysayers don’t create a panic.

The Question:

Name five books written by Ovid a most prominent poet along with the older Horace and Virgil during the reign of Augustus. Bonus: What are Neologisms?

The Headlines:

--Continuing Virus Concerns Has Markets Tumbling Again At Opening; Nasdaq Getting Crushed; At 11:00 Am, Dow Down 791, Nasdaq Down 339.

--Obama And Biden To Make Big Charge During Weekend Marathon.

--Extreme Looting Continues In Philadelphia.

--Tech Execs Testifying Before The Senate On Election Disinformation.

-- Key Swing State Pennsylvania Could Be Long On Determining Prez Winner As Mail Votes will Be Counted Last.

--Cal Firefighters In War Against Fames Threatening Orange County Subdivision.

--Zeta Expected To be Cat 2 As It Begins To Strike Gulf Coast From NO To Mobile.

--Early Voting Now Half the Total turnout For 2016.

--Australians Cheer As Country Comes Out Of Strict Covid Lockdown.

--“Women’s Strike” Rallies On Streets Of Polish Cities After Gov Bans 98% Of All Legal Abortions.

When you think about it, Covid is defining Americans, humans as never before. – Caring, apathetic, responsible, selfish, intelligent, naïve… You get the point. And if you think about it. People from many opposing ideologies, gender and all the rest of the new points of so-called division, have the same concerns, the same sense of responsibility, regardless of how ideologues want to pigeonhole us. Not wanting to die is common to almost everybody.

Covid is like a Netflix series…just when you think it’s over, they release the next season.

I have a great grandfather named Horace, but he was no poet.

Mail-in voting is starting to look like a really bad idea.

If the Dems sweep, be prepared for a lot of lecturing. The left loves to lecture to the great unwashed, which to them is anybody who they think is inferior which is everybody who holds views opposite.  theirs.

It appears that more and more Americans are beginning to fear mobs overpowering police who will become unable to control marauding crowds. That the current appearance of destabilization has people rushing to buy guns. Since March according to the FBI reports, 15.1 million guns have been bought, an increase of 91% from the same period 2019.

If you divide the circumference of a pumpkin pie by its diameter, you get…pumpkin pi.

The Five senate races to watch are in Arizona, South Carolina (Yes, Lindsey Graham), Maine, Georgia and Alabama. This is probably what will determine the true fate of the country for the next 4 years.

Police work is dangerous, even when they least expect it. In the Philippines yesterday, a raid a on an illegal cockfight had one of the policemen killed …by a cock. There is nothing easy about being a law enforcement officer, and it appears the media is helping enable miscreants and criminals to continue to demean these mainly hard-working, honest people.

“Balderdash”: A rapidly receding hairline.

If you think back in time, October has at times been pretty awful for the Stock market. Held your breath until we get through the election.

But then, some WS Gurus are looking at this as a buying opportunity for FAANG stocks.

Tony Bobulinski seems believable to me. Have you noticed how the media is all of a sudden cautious about their reporting on Bobulinski, when in the past they have raved about the truth coming from suspect nut jobs attacking Republicans, Where has journalism gone?

I don’t know why, but when I read about Alibaba’s super entrepreneur Jack Ma, I immediately think of Korea’s Psy. Maybe it’s the way Ma is dancing around the globe.

I really like rainy days.

The Answer:

The three most important books by this great poet are: Metamorphoses, Ars Amatoria and Amores. He also wrote Fasti, Horoides, Epistulae ex Ponto, Venus and Adonis, and Tritia. Every once in a while, it’s good to ground yourself in the classics. Bonus: A neologism is an alternative meaning to a common word. i.e. “Circumvent: An opening in the front of boxer shorts worn by Jewish men.” I’ve been running a lot of these lately

Abdicate: To give up hope of ever having a flat stomach.

I think I feel a little crazy this morning;
