It’s Not Always Deep.

Today's Tids Issue 4,979

Makeup Artists:

What do you call a lazy Kangaroo? A pouch Potato! Yes, this is slow down and don’t exercise brain muscles week.

Weird Think, Department.

Do you get this feeling while listening reports about the arrival of a threatening storm, that if you turn off lights and appliances beforehand, you’ll be saving power in the event there is an outage? Probably not. The mind can be strange.

Today is officially National Heroes Day. Heroes shouldn’t be forgotten on any day. Today is a good day.

Today is also National Sponge Cake Day. Which isn’t so hot. Is that what we bake to celebrate those staying at home collecting instead of getting out there and working. Congress is baking a lot of sponge cakes these days.

One thing that I don’t understand is why these politicians like the Prez always focus on meeting timelines, especially with something as amorphous and volatile as dealing with the Taliban, and the current chaotic mess. Like yesterday Joe B came on to assure us that he will still meet the August 31 deadline. Like how cares except media scorekeepers., What difference does it make. Just do something. a. We don’t need all the optics.  Oh, by the way, why wear a mask walking into his own office. It’s called chapter 43 of the Stupid Political Tricks and Optics Handbook.

As you know, the Tids never sets deadlines and it always gets there somehow.

The Question;

Name five of the Everly Brothers greatest hits.

The great Althea Gibson was the fist black person to ever play in a National Tennis Championship. How come she isn’t mentioned in same breath as Jackie Robinson or Arther Ashe? She was an athlete hero of mine way back then, because she a was just so damn good. And seemed like a very nice person to this kid.

A lot of potentially good movie plots ae ruined by Hollywooditis.

When they announce a hurricane is on the way, aren’t you glad you don’t own a boat. OTB, other people’s boats is the only way to go! But I do miss my crappy old Whaler.

In 1926 Ted Lyons of the Chicago White Sox pitched a 6-0 No hitter in one hour and seven minutes.! And they wonder why people are getting turned off by 3-to-4-hour games. They should be able to cut games to 2.5 hours, at least. Wait! They could never sell so much high-priced beer or as many luxury hotdogs i the shorter game times. there isa always something.

In 1986 1,700 Cameroon people died from a gas escaping out of the volcanic Lake Nyos. One minute you are fishing or sitting on a rock marveling at the calm and peaceful beauty of the lake. And then, you are dead as a cloud waft over you. The bulk of gas released was carbon dioxide that had been stored in the lake's hypolimnion, The victims exposed to the gas cloud died of carbon dioxide asphyxiation, the CO2 being derived from magmatic sources, though there was no significant, direct volcanic activity involved. It was truly a sad day. Sciennt8ists now are looking for ways to monitor hazardous lakes based on the limnological nature of the gas released.

Hey, wait a minute! Doesn’t CO2 have something to do with climate change?

That opening pun was from one of the smartest guys I know. So, maybe there is a hidden, deeper meaning to it. Or maybe he’s a guy who just enjoys simple fun.

The Answer:

The Everly Brothers were at eh top of the heap in the late 1950’s and early 60’s. (The songs that made it to # 1 and 2 on the charts are designated.) Here are their 15 songs that reached the Top Ten, listed Chronologically: Bye-Bye Love (#2), Wake Up Little Suzie (#1), All I Have To Do Is Dream (#1), Bird Dog (#2), Devoted to You, Problems (#2), I kissed You, Let it be Me, Cathy’s Clown (#1), When Will I be Loved, So Sad, Walk Right Back (#1 In Egland), Ebony Eyes, Crying in the Rain, and That’s Old fashioned: Tha’;s the Way Love Should Be.(#1)

Anybody humming yet?

I stood alone this morning on a rock jutting out into the sea, the foam of crashing waters swirling around me. The wind blowing a pleasant roar as I stood quietly there. In my haven. There was not a person to be seen. Just me. And the peace of that ever-mysterious ocean. That ever stops. That touches the ends of the earth. It’s a beautiful part of life. Just me and the awe.
