Today's Tids Issue 5,066
It is what everybody needs;
It is what each of us can give:
I don’t normally have a Question for the Christmas Eve/Christmas Tids, but if I did today it would be, who said the words in our Today’s title: “Spread love everywhere you go.” The answer is Mother Teresa.
I read those words this morning and thought, is there a better way to express the meaning of this Christmas time that is so much about giving. Pure, unselfish giving? That a gift of the ultimate is always the best present of all. The gift of giving love, caring; reaching out with soft fingertips to touch hands with a piece of your heart. To be treasured always. Yup, I think that about sums up the meaning of Christmas.
(Not so hot for the retail industry, though.)
And each Christmas Eve or Christmas morning when I write to all of you who put up with this mess each day, I always think of Charlie Brown asking what Christmas is all about. And I just have to repeat this each year in this column (where I vow never to repeat myself) this message below which I just think seems so right.
"I guess you were right, Linus. I shouldn't have picked this little tree," said Charlie Brown. "Everything I do turns into a disaster. I guess I don't really know what Christmas is all about. Isn't there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?"
"Sure, Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is all about," said Linus. [Linus walks to center stage.]
"Lights, please."
“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
“That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown”.
I personally think its was great of Charlie Brown to pick out that little, forsaken tree.
Merry Christmas, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
