In the Irish Heart.

Today's Tids Issue 5,139

Warm showers:

Isn’t it interesting how on a gloomy coldish rainy day in April, love still seems to fill the air?

There is talk in some circles about allowing Tiger Woods to use a cart in golf tournaments to improve Sunday TV ratings. Then there are others saying, letting Tiger drive in public is not such a great idea.

You’ll never be as lazy as the guy who named the fireplace.

I had minor glorious moment yesterday when I finished off my test bottle of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Zero Calorie soda. Back to DC or DP as my diet Nectars of choice There are special moments in life that never make the news.

The Question

Today is the anniversary of two great events representing the indominable spirit of human endeavor. One was in 1896 and the other in 1909. What were they?

The Headlines:

--Hawkish Fed Remarks Have Stocks Nosediving Early; Dow, S&P Recover In Late Day.

--NK Reiterates Nuke Warning To SK.

--Dutch Seize 14 Oligarch Mega Yachts; New US Sanctions Affect O Putin’s Daughters.

-Russia Retreats From Kiev; Russia Financial System Said To Be Near the Brink Of Collapse.

--Biden Extends L Student Loan Repayment Date.

In February you need a holiday to justify sending a heart emoji. In the Spring it just feels right.

Housing prices have become unhinged from reality lately in large part due to FOMO. Late comers to the mad housing market rush out to make a killing selling their own homes only to find that the available market is basically unaffordable unless they move to Bangladesh. this puts us are in jeopardy of facing a housing bubble. Around here houses with no apparent possibility of being a million-dollar property are easily moving for a million, meaning people are paying more and more for less. Someday somebody wakes up and shouts, I can’t take it anymore.

What did our parents do when bored with no internet. I asked my 18 brothers and sisters, and they didn’t know either. --Irish Craic.

Some weeks like this one I seem to have more to do than I have time. Some week I hope I have plenty of time to do what I really want to do–nothing.

Have you noticed how much time people spend talking about what’s new on Netflix and competitors?

It is probably warmer sitting an Igloo in Nome than sitting in a Doc’s office in a hospital gown back opened to the rear.

There is much too much talk about Nukes going around. And somebody is going to think it is the thing to do – But Mom, all the guys are doing it. If there were to be a nuclear war most would be aimed at first world countries. Clue, move to 3rd world nation.

I cheer a little each time a court says Police will not be charged in a shooting. Reasonable people know that in almost all situations' police arrive because there is criminal activity, and tensions at its highest. So cheers for not charging the Minnesota Swat team in the Amir Locke case, and particularly for the police officer who had to pull the trigger when Locke came at him with a gun.

I don’t like to think before I speak. I like to be just as surprised as everybody else. --Irish craic

In case you are wondering, “Craic” (Crack) is a term for news, gossip, fun, entertainment, and enjoyable conversation, particularly prominent in Ireland. You may have found a laugh or two or three in today’s Ireih humor and philosophy sent in by longtime leprechaun reader.

The Answer:

Man can achieve anything. 1986 in Greece humans challenged themselves and each other in the first Olympics. And in 1909 somebody discovered the North Pole. But who was it? September 7, 1909, readers of the New York Times awakened to a stunning front-page headline: "Peary Discovers the North Pole After Eight Trials in 23 Years." Yet, Peary himself said he discovered it in April 1909. And that is not the end of the story. The New York Herald reported that Dr. Frederick Cook presumed dead had returned after Discovering the North Pole in April 1908. Peary was given the credit eventually but in 1988 questions arose that indeed maybe it was Cook. So the answer is now a mystery again. But read up on Peary and Cook to learn of an interesting bond between them. Regardless, discovering the pole was at that time an enormous achievement as it was the last remaining great earthly exploration.

April showers can be quite soothing, but I wish they were warmer.
