Today's Tids Issue 5,260
I feel it in my heart:
Today.
Today begins a weekend.
Of remembering,
Heroes brave.
A country worth the deaths to save.
At the time, so many wondering,
If these heroes would ever return.
And they all did,
But not all to glorious parades,
Some to be laid into rolling hillsides,
And flowered fields.
And this day begins the weekend.
For us all,
To remember all of those we never knew.
Of those who gave everything,
For us. For you and me.
Why is there so much hate,
When so many gave so much love.
Volunteers who perform at Middle Ages jousting exhibitions are freelancers.
For decades now I have listened to the Indy 500 on the radio. A lot of people never understood the joy in that. I love traditions.
I always consider it a good Tids day when I finish in time to watch most of “The Price is Right”.
The Question:
Nearly 40,000 voted in a poll to determine the “Best Pop Artists of the 1980’s” Who do you think came out on top? Bonus: Two very well-known Italian American pop singers are second cousins. Who do you think they are? Extra Bonus: In which wars were the most American soldiers killed?
The Headlines:

When we elect an Italian President, it will give new meaning to Vito Power.
Do you all remember when Memorial Day was called Decoration Day? I remember as a kid jumping into our old Plymouth and heading over to the cemetery to decorate the graves of Moms relatives. It seemed like quite an awesome place to me, with people everywhere placing flowers and little flags, and standing silently. I remember people standing silently.
A good friend said to me yesterday that what worries him most about America is that good intelligent people would never want to be president again in this social media world.
Another friend says that what worries him most about becoming a zombie is the walking.
It seems to me that we may be seeing a subtle Public Relations campaign designed to take the glow off of Florida as a great place to live. It is just one method modern political and issue campaigns use to tarnish opposition, targeting arenas in which the other side plays.
If AI is so smart, how come it always makes bad choices in Autocorrect?
The Hurricane forecast is out, and it is said to be quite timid, maybe about the same as last year with 12-17 named storms and 2-3 Hurricanes. But as they say, it only takes one big blow to lay us low.
A reader writes wondering how many girls changed gender to play in boys' sports.
One of the new statewide profit center sits in the Attorney General's office that sues good corporations for past sins. I wonder if AG’s get a commission?
Somehow a few loud voices tend to indicate that America is a horrible place and has been forever. That’s the problem with small minorities with loud voices and a gullible press.
The Answer:
Number one was Michael Jackson. After him came Queen, Whitney Houston, Prince, ABBA, The Police, David Bowie, Journey, Tina Turner and Billy Joel. Any of your favorites yet? Continuing to #25 we have at #11 U2, and then Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Guns N’ Roses, George Michael, Tears for Fears, Duran Duran, Stevie, Nicks, Eurhythmics, Billy Idol, Genisis, Wham!, Pat Benatar, Def Leopard, and AC/DA. One I liked, Heart, was #26. I thought Madonna or Cindy Lauper might be higher. Bonus: Madonna’s Mom Silvanna Cicone and Gwen Stefani's dad Dennis are first cousins making the singing duo second cousins. Extra Bonus: The Most deaths were in WWII. That is followed closely by both sides in the Civil War (US 140K bad Confederate 94K) then WWI, Viet Nam, Korea, Revolutionary, Iraq, War of 1812 and Afghanistan.
Have a great and thoughtful weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
I’m proud to be an American.
