I'm looking forward to Tuesday.

Today's Tids Issue 5,332

The tingle of cooling air:

If Donald Trump goes to jail, will the secret service get adjoining cells? *

Well, by God, it’s September. There are so many good things about September. The easing of summer heat, the regreening of hillsides and gracious parks. And of course, the smell of pigskin and the sounds of crunching blocks and tackles. Though there is a bit of tarnishing to that traditional thrill of football with the advent of big money manipulation and the growing allure of gambling. But we with our hearts in the game will root and live and die with our alma Mater and favorite pro teams. We will remember 911 this month of the innocents suddenly lost; a reminder of the ruthlessness of man. But most of all, September seems calming, like the rush is off. It’s ok to have day with nothing to do. Yes, I like a September day to walk once again on shores less crowded. And to feel a certain new freshness n the air.

There are a lot of sad things that can pass by us during our days upon this planet, but one of the saddest of all to me is seeing people return to where their homes and things owned had been after a hurricane or fire or tornado, and find nothing there.

So, happy last weekend of summer everybody. Having a cookout in your back yard is about as good an idea as any.

The Question:

Tesla is described by Wall Streeters as Faith Based stock. It is really about futurism and not Electric Vehicles. But the reality of today is they selling cars and they are second in the world. What is the number one EV maker in car sales? Bonus: What exactly are “Grits” and what is the difference between grits and polenta?

The Headlines:

--Surprise Rise in US Unemployment Pushes Up Stocks; Job Creation Beats Estimates.

--After Three Year Hiatus, Interest on Student Loans Begins Today.

--Observers See Chances of Ukraine Taking Back Territory Declining.

--DeSantis Tells Backers He Needs $50 Million More To Keep Campaign Competitive.

--White House Ramps Up New War Room to Combat Anticipated Impeachment Inquiry.

Nikki Haley: “The US Senate is the most privileged nursing home in the country.”

I find one of the more dangerous aspects of summer is walking aimlessly through parking lots not completely aware that tourists have bike racks protruding from the backs of their cars. Ouch!

One of the annoying tendencies of news reporting is their generalized assumptions. Like when newspaper or digital headlines or news anchor intros says, "...everybody is talking about,” I haven't said a word about it.

Is Notre Dame going to be back grand and glorious once again this year? BTW, with all of this league swapping going on, where exactly does ND fit? I guess they are part of the ACC somehow, but I'm pretty sure Big Ten operatives are envisioning a little Irish in their future. Yes, the warriors neath the golden dome still have that unique rabid national fan base envied by all other colleges.

In 1923 an earthquake in Japan killed 140,000 people. It was a while ago and more than likely barely known in the US. But disasters occur all over the place all the time it seems, and even with all of the global communications available there are still too many people suffering the unimaginable in silence.

A lot of commercials lately are telling me I can’t enjoy football unless I bet on the games. Are they insane.

So, I seem to be hearing more and more quite honest and intelligent people saying at this point in time they can't see themselves voting for a presidential candidate in 2024.

I argue with Spell-Check about creative grammar all of the time. But it never changes.

*Heard this morning at a monthly breakfast gathering of a bunch of funny guys.

The Answer:

China’s BYD company is the top selling EV Car maker in the world doing lot of business in Africa, Middle East and South America. Ford and GM are the big US competitors but far behind Tesla. Bonus: Yes, Polenta is from Italy and Grits are associated with the Southern USA. So that’s a difference. And yes, though both are made from Ground Corn, there is difference there too. Polenta is made from yellow corn while grits are made from white corn (Hominy). Thus, Polenta is a little flakier and course while grits are smoother. But both are quite satisfying especially when adding grilled shrimp or a savory pork in Merlot sage sauce.

I wonder, was the origin of the word “Grits” just a tyopo for “Grist” where the corn is ground. You never know.

Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
