Running wild is ok?

Today's Tids Issue 5.349

A day is a day, rain or shine:

Pressure. Pressure. Pressure. The sun came out today after four days of rain. Now I have to figure out something to do with the nice weather.

Yesterday we heard of the death of Brooks Robinson. Robinson was a billpayer's ballplayer. Watching him field was a joy, and he would always hit when a good hit was needed most. All my heroes seem to be dying.

Target Company announced yesterday they are closing 9 stores in selected major cities. The reason, pure and simple. Theft; the fear that employees and customers would be injured just doing their jobs or innocently shopping. Last night over a hundred marauders attacked a shopping mall in center city Philadelphia, to loot. Have we become a third world country while nobody was looking.

At a funeral wake, several people have given moving tributes to the deceased, and now the grieving widow asks if anybody else would like to add anything. A man stands up. “May I say a word?" he asks. “Of course," says the widow. “Plethora,” says the man. “Thankyou: that means a lot,” replies the widow.

The Question:

I had always admired the great Third Basemen of baseball. Name the top five all-time. Sorry non-baseball fans.

The Headlines:

--Stocks Breathing but Gasps are Just around the Corner as Shutdown Fears Gain Momentum; Surging Dollar, Treasury Rates Suppressing Stocks Movement.

--7 Repubs Minus DT face Off Tonight in Latest Debate.

--NK Releases Renegade US Soldier Travis King

--100 Dead, 150 Injured as Massive Fire Sweeps thorough Iraq Wedding Hall.

--Meta Defining Its AI Strategy; Amazon Pouring $4 Billion into AI.

I was sitting there reading a lot of news stories and realized that the main value of a good criminal lawyer is obscuring the truth.

I didn't have enough lunch today; Now I need a potato chip break. The problem is now my touch screen could have greasy fingerprints on it and it will take longer to edit this... if I can see the typos at all.

I always had favorite players outside my teams, the Brooklyn Dodgers and Boston Red Sox. I’d root for many on opposing teams except anybody in NY Pinstripes.

The current higher interest rates are like, normal. The 0 to super low interest rates of the past 16 years that spurred business were abnormal for a solid economy. When money is cheap, bad decisions can be made. And all too often society pays in the end.

If you are just using the computer for a typewriter than all the cloud does is get in the way

I used to just turn on the TV. Now I have to sign up ot stream. And, this is better?

The war is now wearing down nations. Deaths are rising to unheard of levels. In 1944 I remember seeing more Victory gardens and garages full of colorful vegetables, my day walking the streets in his white air raid warden helmet. But across the sea we saw start of the great Operation Overlord, D-Day, the bloody assault on Normandy Beaches, the Battel of the Bulge, and the Siege of Leningrad was broken (1 Millon died from starvation during the 879-day siege). Paris was liberated by the US, but V-1, V-2 rockets pummeled England. FDR was elected for a fourth term and that scared many. Glen Miller went missing. The US steps up bombing of Japan. Ghandhi released from an India Prisons. A loaf of bread is ten cents and a 16-acre farm in Indiana is $5000. Bing Crosby had a couple of big hits, “Swinging on a Star” and “Don’t Fence Me In” with the Andrew Sisters, who had a couple of big hits on their own. Another big hit was Trolly Song by Judy Garland from the Movie Meet Me in Saint Louis. That was one of the top movies along with Going my Way and Double Indemnity. But everything was still about the war.

Costco had great earnings, again. But the feeling is that Retail stocks could have a tough year ahead as consumers slow spending. And become more selective due to higher prices.

Do you think the progressive’s objective is to turn us into third world country so we can be equal like most other countries and seek a handouts?

If there is a shutdown those being paid the most will be spinmeisters trying to shift blame. Somebody always finds a way to make money over anything.

A guy is writing a new sports column in the Providence Journal. It isn’t bad. But it looks like he has the same source for puns as I do.

The Answer:

One of my all-time faves isn’t in the top Ten -- The great George Kell is17 ot 31I actually looked at about 6-7 lists from all respectable sources, The consensus number one was Mike Schmidt. The rest of the top six, though ranked dfferently, were always Wade Boggs, George Brett, Brooks Robinson, Eddie Matthews and Chipper Jones. They all seemed rock solid at the top.   Also typically in the top 10 were Ron Snato, Scott Rolen, Buddy Bell and Adrian Beltre. Ken Boyer crept in there occasionally.

Enough baseball? Try this:
