Is he wearing plaid boxer shorts?

Today's Tids Issue 2,949
Opening Stuff:

Like white winged plovers working the beach, hundreds of single handed Laser sailboats bob and weave on icy blue waters against the eerie backdrop of an ethereal October sky. Swarming like white winged butterflies in a mating dance ritual, the hardy men and women look for the edge. The fleet darts as a unit, as if a flock of birds dancing their way south. A billow of white fluttering like sheets drying on a cool autumn day. The magnificence of Fall's beauty upon a glistening sea, masks the fierce determination of faces drenched with icy spray.

In the coming weeks I think we'll see a subtle White House/DNC campaign that will seed the thought within the pliable minds of Americans that postponing ObamaCare is a good idea. They will pose as statesman, reasoned leaders who only want to rise up above partisan infighting to do the right thing for the people. A senator hither, a congressman yon, and soon Columnists will rise up praising their altruistic concerns, and nary a word will be heard by the masses that it is all in response to Republican urging.

What is the bigger obstacle to driving in parking lots -- a large bed pickup truck or a Volvo with two bikes hanging off the back?

The Question:
I'd say that 99% of Americans have always thought that fine Illustration is fine art. Fine artists always seemed to resist a pat on the pack to those fellow artists who actually made very good money while they were alive. Fine artist's spouses or family made very good money after their husband, wife, son, daughter, lover died. Name the five best known Illustrators.

Great, just great! Now somebody thinks investing in an NFL football player is a good idea. This is the only product that is assured becasue of aging to go downhill after you invest in it. A product that is just a punch in a bar or to the eye of a spouse away from total decay. Will they tell you how much alimony or child care payments are part of the financial liability. And, what do you get for an investment, share of all football related earnings for life. Not all earnings, just Football related earnings. This is like a class action su noble,it, where the masses think they are part of something but they are only the bulk necessary to make money for somebody else.

Winning at golf without cheating is the fair way.

I'm thinking interesting, that the word columnists,
Tends to rhyme with the philosophy, communists.
And like the elitists, hearts said to have been bled,
They tend to color their thinking, with a tinge of red!

Two iconic Boston area restaurants from my 60's past have grilled their last steak, broiled their final piece of fresh fish. For a couple of years I ate just about every lunch in the Hilltop Streak-House in Saugus, my mind seeming to remember the great steak tips at a reasonable price. And then of course there was Anthony's Pier Four, where I spent one memorable infamous evening. Enough said.

"Mathmatics say it is impossible to have an 'Entitlement' state and low taxes." --Ben Stein in "Lessons from Shutdown" talk.

The only result of Morgan Stanley being fined $13 Billion for basically defrauding the Government and people is that they will be even more determined and creative, developing new schemes to make new money to pay themselves back. As most observers say, nothing will change in Wall Street's mysterious back world until some financial icon goes to jail.

In an effort to launch the RI ObamaCare Exchange, the state group responsible is running a nice looking TV commercial that shows the greatness of the state's mighty, nation leading industrial past, the inference being that historical achievement will carry over into the OC era of nationalized medicine. Of course the group is counting on the short term memories of RI'ers who should remember that the reason our glory days are in the past is because our union run state government made it impossible for good companies to survive here. It's the same state government in charge of the healthcare monster. Feeling comfortable yet?

The people who are protesting McDonald and others for a raise to $15/hour are saying that it's good for America because now the low earning protesters are getting the other 50% of their income as subsistence money from the taxpayer. But, if the salary scales of Fast Food restaurants are raised to $15, the accompanying increase in food prices will slow down sales to the point where the taxpayer will be paying 100% of subsistence for all of the people the restaurants can't afford to hire.

I'm wondering if this lingering cough I have is from Cheetos dust in my lungs.

The Answer:
I think most people would put Norman Rockwell at the top of the favorite Illustrator list. And, the "naive non-elitists of the world" would certainly call him a great artist. Other big names would be Charles Dana Gibson, NC Wyeth, Maxwell Parish, Charles Edward Chambers, Howard Pyle (The So-called Father of Illustration), JC Lyendecker, James Montgomery Flagg, Jessie Wilcox Smith and Violet Oakly. Some others who should be named even if the names are unfamiliar to you are Edwin Austin Abbey. Coles Phillips, Gertude Kay, Elizabeth Green, Sarah Stillwell, Harrison Fisher, Jules Gueren and Aubrey Beardsly. While the famous like Norman or Wyeth are imbedded in our minds, all you have to do is open a children's book to find contemporary illustrative artists of incomparable capabilities. Real artists, for sure.

So, we begin another Monday. A brisk one at that.

After tomorrow, there is a good possibility that you will be Tidless for a week. But, if I can get out the message, it will be exciting, refreshed and new.

All you have to do is look at an art world where fine artists looked down their noses at equally excellent artists, mainly it appears, because they made art for money...to learn why there are such boundaries between groups of human beings. Why liberal blacks for instance don't consider conservative or successful blacks, black. Or intellectual conservatives are not considered intelligent by liberals. It says clearly that most of the divisions among humans aren't logical at all. There is room for understanding everywhere. Well, maybe I could never understand Jets' Fans.
